• The corruption was so ingrained that the old systems were ruined.

was making waves in the Republican Party

• Republican Party bosses wanted to accomplish a couple of things– Compete against growing reform movements– Keep TR ism from infesting Republican Party

• There was a VERY SIMPLE solution for the Republican bosses.– What office could they put TR in and have him

remain politically satisfied while at the same time stifling his Progressive voice?

• TR Challenged Taft for the nomination– The Republican Party

would have to redefine itself.

Wilson’s Program

• On December 23, 1913, the Federal Reserve System, which serves as the nation's central bank, was created by an act of Congress. The System consists of a seven member Board of Governors with headquarters in Washington, D.C., and twelve Reserve Banks located in major cities throughout the United States.
