    CHAPTER I

    INTRODUCTION

    Every individual who has the patriotic allegiance to his country has to render his

    obligation, duties and responsibilities as a citizen of the country. It would be recalled that in the

    past century. Our forefathers have fought hard to instent giving the last drop of blood for us to

    enjoy the present democracy and freedom. That everybody is happily enjoying life. It is but

    fitting for every Filipino and the generations to come to safeguard this freedom against invasion

    and oppression. If their services are needed, they should be willing to give their best just to

    maintain peace and order. They should be ready to define the country to be at far with forefather

    and to live up to their expectations.

    All the colleges and universities having an enrollment of the students shall include acourse of military instruction commonly known as Reserve Officers Training Corps as a

    compulsory requirement of their respective curricular for all physically fit the students citizen of

    the Philippines of undergraduates status. They shall faithfully conduct the course in accordance

    with the policies and regulations Prescribed by the Secretary of National Defense. The defense of

    the country is the duty of every citizen. The security of the Philippines and the maintenance of its

    democracy and freedom is a never ending concern of all. Each regardless of age and sex is

    responsible to the citizen when the country fall on the hands of foreign invaders. The Philippines

    political community and its culture, Survival and Reservation of the Filipino way of life

    constitute its main pillars. In order to build a just and human society and establish a government

    that shall embody our ideals and aspiration, promote the common good, conserve and develop

    our patrimony and serve to ourselves and our posterity the blessings of independence and

    democracy under rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality and peace do

    ordain and promulgate this Constitution. One of the means deemed most suitable for the

    enhancement of the spiritual values of the men in uniform was to conduct bible studies by

    organization group. National security in its most fundamental sense is the ability of a nation to

    protect its eternal value from any thread. Survival and the presentations of the Filipino way of

    constitute its main pillar.

    The national security is the capability of a country to protect its people against

    aggression. An individual has to be guided to attain his objectives of understanding the Filipino

    custom and tradition. A soldier whose ambition is to realize his objectives in life has to develop

    and or to enrich his spiritual and cultural needs. This belief shall be basis for a stranger and true

    people ready to defend his country anytime at all cost. The reserve officers Training Corps is a

    college based, officer commissioning programs, predominantly in the United States. It is

    designed as a college elective that focuses on leadership development, problem solving, strategic

    planning and professional ethics. Army Reserve Officers Training Corps Units are organized in

    brigades, battalions, and companies. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Units are

    detachment with the students organized into wings, groups, squadrons and flights, like the Active

    Air Force Naval Reserve Students. There are companies; but having the navy students in

    department and divisions like a ship and the marines in a separate company is only done when a

    Reserve Officers Training Corps Program has gone a long way in the Philippine history. The

    Commonwealth Act#1 otherwise known as the national defense act provided the legal basis for

    the conduct of Reserve Officer Training Corps Instruction, the need for a citizen reserve force

    had been realized as early as before the American occupation in the Philippines, in fact, it was

    utilized even during the long and arduous Spanish colonial rule in the archipelago. A military

    training course, the time became inevitable in the light of the constant marauding by both local

    and foreign forces severely opposing and constantly resisting the Spanish control of the colony.

    According to Coamug (1650). He proved the strength of their men not only in the

    mountains but in the plane as well and the Spaniards continued chasing them, but they have to

    move back because of so many casualties on their sides.

    According to the citizen (1650) who have been trained and who the capabilities to

    defined their country in more honorable than those citizens who have not done anything good for

    the country expect to enslave their countrymen and to forever criticized to mistake s of those

    who are in the government.

    Furthermore to the provision of the section 52 of the law (1896). Her obligation of the

    manned forces of the Philippines to train youth in the schools.

    According to Samulong (1935). The national assembly approved the plan and criticisms

    it received and the strict opposition mounted by several lawmaker camely Camilio Osias.

    STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

    This study is focused on the profile of the Reserve Officers Training Corps in Abra State

    Institute of Sciences and Technology.

    Further it seeks to answer the following questions:

    1. What are the profile of the Reserve Officers Training Corps in Abra State Institute of

    Sciences and Technology?

    a. Age

    b. Gender

    c. Civil Status

    d. Educational Background

    e. Parents Occupations

    f. Parents Educational Background

    2. What are the problems encountered by the Reserve Officers Training Corps?

    3. What are the reasons of the respondents joining Reserve Officers Training Corps?

    SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

    This study is focused on the profile of the Reserve Officers Training Corps in Abra State

    Institute of Sciences and Technology. There are ten (10) male and five (5) female for the total

    number of (15) fifteen respondents.

    SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

    This study is focused in the Profile of Reserve Officers Training Corps in Abra State

    Institute of Sciences and Technology in 2009-2010.

    Everybody is happily enjoying life, it is not fitting for every Filipino and generations to

    come to safeguard this freedom against invasion and oppression. If their services are needed,

    they should be willing to give their best just to maintain peace and order. They should be ready

    to define the country to be at part with forefathers, and to live up to their expectations.

    DEFINITION OF TERMS:

    To make this Research more understandable to the future researchers. The Researcher

    included the following definitions of terms which should enable them to have a clearer

    understanding in the study. The following are some of the words with their corresponding

    meanings.

    1. Command is the authority of a person in the military service, lawfully exercise over

    subordinates by virtue of his rank and position.

    2. Management is the process of planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and

    controlling source such as men, money materials and machinery to accomplished the

    organizational missions.

    3. Leadership the ability to influence others directing them towards the accomplishment of

    a mission.

    4. Leadership Traits personal qualities essential for a Commander in gaining obedience,

    trust, respect and cooperation of his men in accomplishing missions.

    5. Leadership principle fundamental guidelines for selection of appropriate action and

    order in the exercise of the command.

    6. Bearing is the general appearance, courage, department and conduct of a leader.

    7. Courage is the mental quality that recognizes fear or danger or criticisms but enables to

    face it without calmness and firmness.

    8. Decisiveness is the promptness of making a decision in a state of clear and forceful

    manner.

    9. Dependability reliability and certainty of a performance in the execution of duty.

    10. Endurance is the physical and mental staming measured by the ability to withstand

    fatigue, stress and hardships.

    11. Enthusiasm is the display of sincere interest and zeal in the performance of duty.

    12. Initiative taking actions in the absence of orders.

    13. Integrity is the uprightness and soundness of moral principles.

    14. Judgment is the ability to logically weigh facts and possible solutions on to arrive at

    sound decisions.

    15. Justice is the reward and punishment according to the merits on the case in question.

    CHAPTER 2

    PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

    This chapter focuses on the Presentation, Analysis and Interpreter of the data gathered

    from the profile of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) of Abra State Institute of

    Sciences and Technology, Bangued Campus, Bangued Abra School Year 2009-2010.

    The Population:

    The researcher was able to gather 15 out of 178 Respondents.

    PROBLEM I: 1. what is the profile of the Respondents in terms of:

    In the total of 100% Respondents, the Table shows that there were 6 (40%) in the age of

    16 and 3 (20%) in the age of 17 and also 6 (40%) in the age of 18.

    The Table shows that the male got the highest percentage. They got 10 (67%) while the

    female got 5 (33%) out of 100%.

    In the total of 100% Respondents. The Table shows that the Respondents got 15 (100%)

    were single while married, widow, widower, and separated 0 (0%).

    As the Mothers Occupations, 11 (75%) are housekeepers, 3 (27%) are farmers and also 1

    (7%) is a vendor.

    As to Fathers Occupations 11 (73%) are farmers, 1 (7%) is a vendor, 2 (13%) SB

    members and also 1 (7%) is a traffic enforcer.

    As to Mothers Educational Background, 1 (7%) is an Elementary Undergraduate, 0 (0%)

    is an Elementary Graduate and High School Undergraduate, 2 (13%) are High School

    Graduate, 7 (47%) are College Undergraduate and also 5 (33%) are College Graduate.

    As to Fathers Educational Background, 1 (7%) is an Elementary Graduate, 0 (0%) is an

    Elementary Graduate and High School Undergraduate, 5 (33%) are High School Graduate

    and College Undergraduate, 4 (27%) College Graduate.

    CHAPTER 3

    FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

    This chapter focuses on the Findings, Conclusions and Recommendations. On the data

    gathered from the profile of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) in Abra State Insttute

    of Sciences and Technology, Bangued Campus, School Year 2009-2010.

    FINDINGS

    Based on the data gathered by the Researcher the following findings are presented:

    On Profile of the Respondents:

    On Age

    The majority of the Respondents (40%) belongs to the age Range 16 and 18.

    On Gender

    The majority of the Respondents (67%) belongs to male gender.

    On Civil Status

    The majority of the Respondents (100%) belongs to single.

    On Mothers Occupations

    The majority if the Respondents (75%) are housekeepers.

    On Fathers Occupations

    The majority if the Respondents (73%) are farmers.

    On Mothers Educational Background

    The majority of the Respondents (47%) are college undergraduate.

    On Fathers Educational Background

    The majority of the Respondents (33%) are high school graduate and college

    undergraduate.

    On Problems Encountered by the Respondents

    The majority of the Respondents in all (80%) belongs to misunderstanding with

    the other officers.

    On Reason of the Respondents in Joining Reserve Officers Training Corps

    The majority of the Respondents in all (73%) are those wanting to be future

    armies.

    CONCLUSIONS

    Based on the Findings, the following conclusions were hereby deduces.

    1. The Profile of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) in Abra State Institute of

    Sciences and Technology Bangued Campus 2009-2010 have a satisfactory values

    orientation in terms of ability of leading others; working with others, showing the ability

    and skills in handling tasks without being pushed, displaying availability wherever they

    are needed, displaying healthy outlook in life.

    2. The success of the Students in their future career will depend to a great extent upon how

    they are trained and taught effectively in the school.

    3. The teachers are well-rounded enough to develop the students.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    Based on the conclusions, the Researcher forwarded the following recommendations:

    To the Students

    They must follow the rules of the school.

    To the Administrator

    The school administration must hire better and responsible teachers in teaching.
