We Trust in HIM through
Continued Search for
Music Ministry, Member
Engagement Leadership
The Holy Spirit, through the vote of the congregation, did not extend a call to Cindy Gnewuch to serve as the Minister of Music and Member Engagement during the Call Service last Monday evening. The vote in favor of calling Cindy was five percent short of the two-thirds majority vote required by the Constitution to extend the call.
One option Pastor Carl mentioned at the end of the Call Service is to hire Cindy Gnewuch in an interim role while we resume the search process. Pastor Carl is discussing that option and others that are emerging with the Board of Servant Leaders, the staff, and other leaders. Your thoughts and proposals are appreciated! Please send your comments to Pastor Carl or any BoSL member, which includes Erin Summers, Chris Martin, Leon DeBolt, Kim Robinson, Julie Eichhorst, and David McLean. Their contact information is available in the church directory.
Obviously, the work to secure long-term leadership for the Music Ministry and Member Engagement is not yet finished. Nonetheless, the incompleteness of this process is a reflection of where the Holy Spirit has led us. He is working powerfully among us and will continue to do so! We trust His timing and His Spirit. As we wait for the conclusion of our search for staff ministry support, we are encouraged to look to Jesus, the “author and perfector of our faith” and remember His promise, that “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” God bless us to that end with His peace!

Pastor Dax Jordan and Members of Vine & Branches
Lutheran Church Break Ground
Last Sunday, under blue skies and a nice breeze, 115 attendees witnessed the Vine and Branches groundbreaking ceremony on the recently acquire nine acre land on Gum Spring Road just south of Braddock Road. The event marked a major milestone in the development of the Phase I facility. Many members of PoP attended which was much appreciated by V&B members. A highlight of the event was Pastor Carl calling all the children up to throw dirt (kids love that) in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit—Amen! If all goes as planned, V&B will be move into the facility in August 2017. Please pray that all goes well. Thanks for the continued support from PoP! Ray Schaible Vice President

Servant of Christ Awards
Presented Last Weekend
Every year, many members of Prince of Peace demonstrate the love of Jesus through extraordinary acts of service in the church, the community, and at home. Again this year, we are singling out a few lay members for special recognition for their faithful service to the Lord. This recognition is called the Servant of Christ Award. We recognize these members not only to thank them for their service, but also to hold them up as examples of the Lord's Spirit at work among us and to encourage everyone who labors along with them in the Lord's vineyard. God is at work wherever acts of love and kindness are done in His name. Although we name only a few, the Lord sees and knows all, remembers all, and promises a far greater reward than our recognition to all who serve His people. The Board of Servant Leaders has chosen the following members for the Servant of Christ Award: Tom Lambiase, Don and Lois Anderson, and Rob Lansing. These members have faithfully served in many roles at Prince of Peace over many years. Congratulations and thanks to Tom, Don and Lois, and Rob. We formally recognized these members during our weekend services on Saturday, September 10
and Sunday, September 11. May the Lord, who has begun a good work in them, bring it to completion at the day of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Support Our Preschool
Fundraiser
This year, Prince of Peace Lutheran School has chosen Genevieve’s Giftwrap for our first fundraiser, because of the quality giftwrap, delicious chocolates and the beautiful home décor and kitchen items they sell. We have a few catalogs in the Narthex and Church Office, but an easier way to support POPLS is to go to www.Genevieves.com and use account number #14168. This will allow the school to earn the profit on your sale. Let your family and friends know that they too can go to the website and see all of the items for sale, and make purchases. Just remind them to use our account number, #14168. Thank you for supporting our fundraiser this year. We know you will love your purchases from Genevieve’s!

We celebrate with her and our preschool as she makes a transition back to working as an Assistant Teacher this year. We give thanks and praise to the Lord for her willingness to serve our congregation.

GO! Project for September:
Flood Scrub Buckets
Each month Prince of Peace will highlight a service project we can all get behind and work towards together. For September, consider donating a Flood Scrub Bucket.
The season for weather events is certainly upon us. Positioning in the Atlantic are a number of tropical storms, and several bear careful watch. Supplies for cleaning homes that have flooded are very much in need. A flood scrub bucket contains many of the supplies needed to help with cleaning. Within the Southeastern District, we are blessed to have a locally-based Orphan Grain Train Collection Center. They are willing to provide warehouse space for collecting, collating, and sending scrub buckets to disaster areas throughout the District and the LCMS.
Drop off your Flood Scrub Bucket in the box in the Narthex during the month of September. Include in your bucket (with handle, no particular
style): Comet ™or other cleansing powder
Lysol ™or other liquid cleaner * Bleach (1-gal. size)
Windex ™ or other glass cleaner * Scrub brush

Mission Trip: Information
Meeting
Tuesday, October 4, 7:30pm Room 9 (downstairs) An information meeting to discuss PoP’s upcoming mission trip to Haiti to support the school and clinic at the Village of Hope will be held Tuesday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m. The trip will be from Thursday, February 9, through Tuesday, February 14, 2017.
Mission team members should plan on incurring a total cost for the trip per person (airfare, room and board in Haiti, etc.) of about $900 to $1000. Faith Stories
Sharing your faith story is an integral component in living out your faith. Your individual story makes up the greater story—the story of God’s redeeming his people for himself. Our stories encourage other believers while God also uses them to reach those not yet connected to Him.
I recently had the opportunity to meet two new neighbors. One engaged me as I was working in my yard. The other one I engaged while out walking. It amazed me how deep these conversations went so quickly on a first meeting. It was because I took the time to listen.
I enjoyed celebrating and singing the liturgy last Sunday.
You can share your stories by writing them in the “Friendship Folder” at any worship service, or post your story as a comment on the http://popfaithstories.wordpress.com, or by sending an e-mail to [email protected].
