Temptation is Inevitable vs. 13a

13 When tempted,

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.

Temptation is Never Directed by God vs. 13b

no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;

1 John 1:5 God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

Temptation is Personal vs. 14a

14 but each one is tempted

Temptation Follows a Process vss. 14-15

It begins with Desire

It leads to Deception

It results in Disobedience

It ends in Death

It Begins with Desire vs. 14b

when, by his own evil desire,

It Leads to Deception vs. 14c

he is dragged away and enticed.

It Results in Disobedience vs. 15a

15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;

It Ends in Death vs. 15b

and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Psalm 51:12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation

Temptation Can Be Overcome vss. 16-18

Don’t Be Deceived vs. 16

16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers.

17 Every good and perfect gift is from above,

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But whenyou are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Revel in the Grace of God vs. 18

18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth,

2 Corinthians 5:17 if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

Romans 6:11 …count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Revel in the Grace of God vs. 18

that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
