Commercial and occasional use satellite data communication

KU Band is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum in the microwave range of frequencies ranging from 12 to 18 GHz. KU Band is

primarily used for satellite communications, particularly for satellite backhauls from remote locations back to a television network’s

studio for editing and broadcasting.

KU band is split into multiple segments that vary by geographical region by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Several highly used segments in the Americas (ITU Region 2) are:

The 11.7 to 12.2 GHz band is allocated to the FSS (fixed satellite service, uplink 14.0 to 14.5 GHz). There are more than 22 FSS

Ku-band satellites orbiting over North America, each carrying 12 to 24 transponders, 20 to 120 watts per transponder, and requiring

a 0.8-m to 1.5-m antenna for clear reception. The 12.2 to 12.7 GHz segment is allocated to the BSS (broadcasting satellite

service). BSS/DBS direct broadcast satellites normally carry 16 to 32 transponders of 27 MHz bandwidth running at 100 to 240 watts

of power, allowing the use of receiver antennas as small as 18 inches (450 mm).

Several highly used segments in Europe and Africa (ITU Region 1) are:

The 11.45 to 11.7 and 12.5 to 12.75 GHz bands are allocated to the FSS (fixed satellite service, uplink 14.0 to 14.5 GHz).

The 11.7 to 12.5 GHz segment is allocated to the BSS (broadcasting satellite service).

Other ITU allocations have been made within the Ku band to the Fixed Service (microwave towers), Radio Astronomy Service, Space

Research Service, Mobile Service, Mobile Satellite Service, Radiolocation Service (radar), and Radio navigation. However, not all of

these services are actually operating in this band and others are only minor users. NBC was the first television network to uplink a

majority of its affiliate feeds via Ku-band in 1983.

Ku Band has become the standard in V-SAT Broadband Internet applications. It is, if well designed, not affected by interferences or

rainfalls.

KU-Band

infrastructural weather resistant backbone satellite data communication

C-Band is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum in the microwave range of frequencies ranging from 4 to 6 GHz. C-band is primarily

used for satellite communications, generally with downlink 3.7–4.2 GHz, uplink 5.9–6.4 GHz, usually 24 36-MHz transponders on

board a satellite. Most C band satellites use linear polarization, while a handful (particularly older Intelsat satellites) uses circular

polarization.

C-Band usage is less common in Europe, where KU Band has traditionally dominated. In many parts of the world, C-Band is often

used to cover a very broad area, for example all of Africa or China. Indeed, many C-Band satellites have “global” beams with gigantic

coverage areas. C-Band is considered to be more resistant towards rain fade.

Ka-band is the latest technology in satellite broadband industry whereby satellite broadband can be provided with speeds way

beyond current Ku-band and C-band technologies and costs being as low as terrestrial broadband service. The high bandwidth

available in the Ka spectrum and frequency re-use capabilities across multiple beams enables the delivery of more capacity at faster

speeds to smaller dishes and thus opening the door to faster speeds at lower costs for more users.

In satellite communications, the Ka band allows higher bandwidth communication. The Ka-band is more susceptible to rain attenua-

tion than is the Ku band, which in turn is more susceptible than the C band.

Ka-band capacity will have a positive impact across a broad range of VSAT markets served today. In fact, we believe the use of Ka-

band will actually lead to new market segments and verticals as the capacity grows and lower bandwidth prices emerge. It presents

many advantages common to all of these markets segments: consumer broadband, enterprise, mobility and military, as well as some

advantages unique to each.

COMTECH EF DATA

TDMA/SCPC STANDARD

Comtech EF Data develops innovative and market-leading satellite communication products. Their advanced solutions enable

bandwidth efficiencies and link optimizations for commercial and government customers around the world.

We prefer Comtech products because of their efficiency, their reliability and the broad spectrum of features these products offer. At

present, no other product is available with a better spectral efficiency - the reason for our product-design decision.

NSTT provides SCPC/DVB and SCPCP/DVB-S2 services on both Ku-band and C-band through various satellites such as T11N,

NSS10, IS-901, IS-15, W6, YAHSAT-1A and AFRICASAT-1A.

TDMA - Time Division Multiple Access Time Division Multiple Access is a communication technology which allows the set up of

shared star-type two-way satellite IP networks. The remote stations are connected by satellite (satellite-to-satellite links) with the

central hub earth station which manages incoming and outgoing traffic influx.

iDirect has developed a proprietary unique technology of its kind which permits to determine the best access method to transmis-

sion equipment. Same like DVB-RCS it uses TDM protocol (Time Division Multiple) for outbound service and Direct TDMA protocol

for inbound channels. It is an ideal choice for establishing geographical networks aimed to support management applications,

video-conference, Voice over IP, web applications and non real time applications in general.

SCPC/SCPC SERVICE

The Single channel per carrier (SCPC) service provides a dedicated single signal at a given frequency and bandwidth. The dedicat-

ed channel offers speeds ranging from 64 kbps to 155 Mbps (up to a full transponder). In an SCPC system, satellite bandwidth is

dedicated to a single source.

NSTT can connect you to remote sites with high performance, cost-effective, telemetry data or broadband internet access through

our global network of satellites such as IS-901, IS-15, W6, etc.. The SCPC solution is designed for applications that require

high-bandwidth, point-to-point connectivity in either symmetric or asymmetric configurations. For applications requiring connectivity

to multiple PoPs within their service coverage area, the SCPC service may also be provided in a point-to-multipoint configuration

using an SCPC broadcast carrier with a Frame Relay overlay to facilitate bandwidth sharing between multiple remote sites. The

SCPC service can be used for a wide range of applications including Internet trunking, Voice over IP, Oil and Gas and Government

services.

SCPC/DVB-S2 SERVICE

The SCPC/ DVB-S2 are an excellent technology for satellite Internet connection with 100% guaranteed bandwidth!

Under this technology option, data is transmitted via SCPC link and is received through a DVB/DVB-S2 platform. The provision of

a satellite internet has existed for many years. The new standard, DVB-S2, provides opportunities to improve the performance of IP

networks via satellite.

Advanced error correction receiving IP packets functions are available on the SCPC/ DVB-S2, thereby increasing the available

bandwidth. Thus, a conventional transponder can now offer higher bandwidth 130Mbps IN DVB-S2 SCPC against 40Mbps before.

The forms of modulation become more sophisticated with the DVB-S2. The support of VCM and ACM give us the tools to optimize

the use of space segment.

• VCM optimizes internet via C-band satellite by assigning different FEC different VSAT based on their position on the

coverage area of the satellite

• ACM optimizes internet via Ku-band satellite dynamically defining MODCO VSAT

• IP encapsulation in MPEG-TS has been optimized by the introduction of Generic Streams brings increased efficiency

when used on Internet connections, satellite DVB-S2

SCPC/ DVB-S2 means that the technology used in the reception of DVB-S2 and the technology used in the show is SCPC

bandwidth of this type of service is 100% guaranteed.

• Price lower bandwidth SCPC/SCPC traditional

• excellent performance of the reception thanks to the many

improvements made by the DVB-S2

• greater link availability Ku-band in the rain through the

ACM (Adaptive Coding Modulation) present in the DVB-S2

• only available bandwidth 100% guarantee and therefore

fairly upscale

• the price of modems can be significant enough in terms of

their performance even if we offer all in one modems in

some of our services

• latency Internet satellite link SCPC/ DVB-S2 is less stable

than a SCPC/SCPC link as optimizations can vary latency

SCPC DVB

In conclusion, the Internet services via SCPC/ DVB-S2 satellite are perfect for a client who wishes to have a 100% bandwidth guar-

antee whose principal use is the Web, email and file transfers.

VoIP will work well with the implementation of QoS rules, but it is recommended to take a SCPC/ DVB-S2 link if the use is 100%

VoIP for the use of certain boxes compression is tricky. Highly sensitive to latency transactional applications work better with

SCPC/SCPC link even if they work well with SCPC/ DVB-S2 link. Links running SCPC/ DVB-S2 are more replacing SCPC/SCPC

links as they offer the best quality / price ratio for Internet connections via satellite bandwidth 100% guaranteed.

POINT TO POINT SERVICE

A private, secure point-to-point VSAT solution that provides a dedicated link and dedicated bandwidth between two locations. This

VSAT system is Ideal for static environments, where communications requirements are clearly established - supports voice, data,

and video communications.

A point-to-point satellite link provides a direct link between two sites, which are located within the same satellite footprint. These

networks easily support voice, video, and data transmissions using a standard data/voice multiplexer, an SCPC satellite modem

and a VSAT terminal at every site. It is a very simple approach for point-to-point networks as communications takes place only

between the two sites. This type of connection is very often used to provide standard internet services through our teleport.
