Bob, co-founder of Apple's R&D lab, is part of the early history of the Apple computer and has developed numerous commercial software titles, worked side-by-side with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, written a book on assembly language programming, and published articles in most Apple II magazines. Bob has lived what most of us only dream about, and he has the stories to prove it.

0945-1030 CH Session - LOGO: History and Programming- Peter Neubauer

The LOGO programming language, best known for "turtle graphics," was popular on the Apple II, especially in classrooms. LOGO is more than a child's game. It's a sophisticated programming language and a serious educational tool for teaching mathematics backed by decades of research on learning theory. Join me to discuss the history of LOGO and for a tutorial introduction to the language.

Escape from the Homebrew Computer Club is a modern(ish) raycasted 2 1/2 D game for the Apple II. I will describe how I came up with the concept, the technology designed in it, and how to play it.

1345-1430 CH Session - Golden Age of Apple II panel- Jason Scott (moderator), Bob Bishop, Steven Weyhrich, Geoff Weiss

The Apple II was in production from 1977 to 1993. From early interest to broad adoption to being overshadowed by the Mac, followed by cancellation, diehard support, and retrocomputing revitalization, the machine has survived many eras and purposes. What was the golden age of the Apple II? What constituted its heyday, and how long did it last -- assuming it's already over, or has even happened? Jason Scott will moderate this panel consisting of Bob Bishop (Apple Computer Inc.), Steve Weyhrich (Apple II History), and Geoff Weiss (Juiced.GS).

Over the past few years, there have been developments which allow greater support of disk images on the IIgs. There will be a demonstration of the latest technology with such products as MountIt by Brutal Deluxe and the SmartportVHD by Cédric Peltier.

An open-for-discussion look at early Apple television advertisements, including Apple II and III, Macintosh and Newton.

Build Vince Briel’s newest kit, an Apple II card that can play MP3 files loaded via a USB memory stick. Advanced registration and fee was required for this workshop. All are welcome to watch.

0845-0915 CH Session - Tokyo Video Chat- Live via Skype

We’ll patch in to Bill Martens, Jim Maricondo and Philip Lord in Tokorozawa, Japan for their annual Apple II hack night. Bill runs the C.A.L.L. Apple and Virtual Apple web sites. Jim created the Golden Orchard disc compilation for the Apple IIgs. Philip is into Apple II Japanese program cassettes.

0930-1030 CH Session - Apple IIgs System Timing and the FPI- Daniel Kruszyna

The Apple IIgs has a split personality. Most of the machine runs at a ~1MHz clock rate, keeping compatibility with earlier Apple IIs. Some components, however, can be decoupled and run at a faster rate. The FPI, or Fast Processor Interface, is the chip responsible for coordinating the interactions between these personalities. This session will include a high level overview of the FPI's responsibilities, along with a detailed look at some particular cases, using signal measurements obtained from a real Apple IIgs.

The Apple IIgs Toolbox is big. Really big. It does a lot of stuff. You may know about a lot of it, but there's stuff in there that's not obvious. Let's take a look together at some of the interesting bits you may not have noticed.


1315-1415 CH Session - Networking your Mac or PC to your Apple II- Ivan Drucker

Serve files to your Apple II the Cheap and Easy Way! If you have an enhanced Apple IIe or an Apple IIgs, then you have a computer that can access files shared from a current-day Mac, Windows, or Linuxcomputer, and even boot ProDOS or GS/OS from the network instead of a disk. This session will show you the plan to get your II on the LAN.

1430-1500 CH Session - Is that a IIgs in your pocket or are you happy to see me?- Geoff Weiss

The Free Tools Association (FTA) released ActiveGS, a free IIgs emulator for IOS devices now available in the iTunes AppStore. 2011 is the year when the Apple IIgs has gone mobile and this is a chance to see it in action.

The growth of the personal computer made computer-controlled robots popular and accessible tohobbyists. "Turtles" are a style of small, mobile robot resembling cybernetic animals. Join me for a photo tour and comparison of several turtle robots contemporary with the Apple II.

1315-1345 CH Session - P2E - Pseudo-II Emulator- Martin Haye

P2E is a new Apple II emulator that runs on all iOS devices, along with desktop computers andprobably Android as well. Written and highly optimized in Javascript, it's capable of emulating an Apple IIe at full speed on iPhone 3GS and above, including graphics and disk drive support. Thissession will briefly cover (1) the technology involved, (2) innovative features such as quick transfer of disk images from PC to emulator and back, and easily searching and loading disks from larger online archives of freely available software, and (3) possible future directions.

1400-1500 CH 60 Session - The Bleeding Edge of Web Technology- Eric Shepherd

Let's take a look at the cutting edge of what the Web can do. It's not just about LOLcats and static news anymore. I'll demonstrate how to create dynamic web applications using the latest technologies, including WebSockets. And, for the non-programmers, a few fun demos of what the web can do that you might not have known it can.
