What does each party “stand for”? What issues do they support? What does each party oppose? What are they against? Who might the NDP work with? Who might the Conservatives work with?

The Political Spectrum: TheoryWhen we categorise a political party, or try to figure out our own personal politics, what kinds of issues would we think about?

Economic Taxes. How much? Paid by whom? Programs. What does the government pay for? Wages. Is there a minimum? Is there a maximum? Organization. Who controls the market?

Political Government size. Is more or less government

better?** Rules. What rules exist? For whom? Justice. How are people rewarded and punished for

their behaviour? Power. Who has it? Who doesn’t?

Social Religion. Desired? Encouraged? Language. Restricted? Official? Rights. Are some people “better” than others?**
