What the teams do Major applications The City is split in to four key development areas in the west, waterfront, east and central for major developments. Typically, these teams manage large planning proposals and initiatives, with the potential for new places to be created. Local, householder, listed building applications and enforcement issues The applications and enquiries are handled by teams in the east and west of the City. Typically, these teams manage applications such as house extensions, new uses and smaller new build developments. The teams also deal with listed building applications and enforcement enquiries. Development Plan This team is responsible for the Council’s input to the City region’s Strategic Development Plan and the preparation of the City’s Local Development Plan. It manages the Local Development Plan Action Programme which sets out what is needed to deliver the Plan. The team also prepares guidance to support policies including supplementary guidance on Developer Contributions. Spatial Policy This team has a strategic focus and brings together transport, planning and air quality policy development. The focus is on creating excellent places and the team promotes the Place Standard, high standards of public realm and high standards of design. Planning Initiatives This team has responsibility for the built and natural heritage and has a key role in promoting conservation policy, ensuring high standards of landscape design, co-ordinating the implementation of the Biodiversity Action Plan and also the processing of tree and high hedge applications. The team also works collaboratively on Edinburgh’s two World Heritage Sites. Service Development and Appeals This team manages the review of local planning applications (local reviews) and appeals against planning refusals. The team leads on service improvement, community engagement, co-ordinating complaints, communications (web and social media), customer care, and reporting on performance.
