How to receive Christ:Admit your need (I am a sinner).

Be willing to turn from your sins (repent).Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave.

Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirit......(receive Him as your Savior).

What to pray:Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am sinful and I need your forgiveness.

I believe that You died to pay the penalty for my sin. I want to turn from my sin and follow You instead.

I invite you to come into my heart and life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

This is the way Satan has always worked… happy to have them compromise God’s

instructions, change it just a little…

Page 5: “The Plan of Salvation Without Compromise!” Acts 20:17-24.

The same thing has happened to God’s plan of salvation through the years…

Purpose:to present God’s plan of salvation

without compromise

…For the first 1,500 years in church history there was virtually no variation from this

view of immersion (baptism)…

Despite fifteen hundred years of

agreement concerning

Biblical baptism as the occasion for

salvation, Zwingli’s new

view has become the view in the Protestant and

Evangelical world.

Jonathan Edwards

George Whitfield

John Wesley

During the mid 1700’s these preachers pushed the idea of radical repentance relying upon

Revelation 3:20 telling people they needed to “let Jesus into their hearts!”

Page 13: “The Plan of Salvation Without Compromise!” Acts 20:17-24.

Charles Wesley

During the 1730’s and 40’s the use of the

mourner’s bench came into practice. Charles

Wesley used this… where sinners were

seated in the front pew and told…

Page 14: “The Plan of Salvation Without Compromise!” Acts 20:17-24.

Charles Finney

Used a combination of the mourner’s bench and emotionalism and took all of this

to a new level. Finney called it the

Anxious Seat…

Page 15: “The Plan of Salvation Without Compromise!” Acts 20:17-24.

Dwight L. Moody

Instead of calling for public decisions, Moody asked people to join him and his counselors in a room called The Inquiry

Room. There they were taught Scripture and led in prayer…

“the sinner’s prayer”…

R. A. Torrey

Modified Moody’s approach to include “on the spot” street conversions… His invitation was “Receive

Christ, now, right here!”

Page 16: “The Plan of Salvation Without Compromise!” Acts 20:17-24.

Billy Sunday

Popular preacher of the early 1900’s.

Preached fire and brimstone sermons mixed with humor and entertainment and then offer an

invitation at the end, often it was associated

with a prayer (“the sinner’s prayer”...)

Page 17: “The Plan of Salvation Without Compromise!” Acts 20:17-24.

Billy Graham was “converted” in 1936 at a Billy Sunday style crusade… His crusade counselors

were using a prayer that had been used for some time. It began with a prayer from his

“Four Steps to Peace with God.”…

Billy Graham

Bill Bright (founder of Campus Crusade for Christ or CRU)

In the late 1950’s Bill Bright originated the

popular “Four Spiritual Laws” that

took the crusade experience right to the

homes of those who heard. This method always ended with

“The Sinner’s Prayer”…

Page 19: “The Plan of Salvation Without Compromise!” Acts 20:17-24.

In 1977 Billy Graham wrote his famous book How to be Born Again. Never once does he

mention in this book anything about baptism as being the point or time for forgiveness…

Page 20: “The Plan of Salvation Without Compromise!” Acts 20:17-24.

Billy Graham the Living Bible and Kenneth Taylor

Kenneth Taylor’s Living Bible (paraphrase) in the 1960’s became “the Bible of choice” for

these crusades…

Page 21: “The Plan of Salvation Without Compromise!” Acts 20:17-24.

John 1:11-13 (Living Bible Paraphrase)

“Even in his own land and among his own people, the Jews, he was not accepted. Only

a few welcomed and received him. But to all who received him, he gave the right to

become children of God. All they needed to do was to trust him to save them. All those

who believe this are reborn! – not a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan

– but from the will of God.”

Page 22: “The Plan of Salvation Without Compromise!” Acts 20:17-24.

Man’s ideas must never cloud or

replace God’s plan of salvation. New

times do not demand a new plan. Man is still a sinner

and Christ is still the only Way back to God. The Bible

plan is still the best AND only plan…
