President’s Message….

Hello Quilter~ A lot of excitement in the Guild lately. On the 26th of October we had Jamboree — Four different classes with great instructors, plus drop-in-and-sew. My favorite part of the day is walking around to the classrooms and seeing what everyone else is doing. It shows how talented our members are and how diverse we all are!

October 24th was the final Home Workshop of the year. Ginny Lee taught us how to make tote bags. The bags are simple & fun to make, and they make

great gifts!

"Team 21" is going strong planning the 2021 Opportunity Quilt. If you want to support the team you can really help by marketing the quilt. It’s fun and easy. It will take someone with great organizational skills to form another team that will travel to other guilds to sell

tickets. Not hard at all, plus you get to see how other guilds function.

Thank you for all you do. Lorna Straka

TREASURE TABLE  One quilters’ trash is another one’s treasure. Do you have some unwanted tools, fabric or other quilting supplies? Bring them to our October meeting to

the Treasure Table….maybe someone needs your item!

What isn’t sold will go into storage for the Country Store at the Quilt Show.

Something new every month, come and check it out! Judy Hamilton and

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community Service continues to be busy supporting our clients with quilts and pillow cases. This month we added a new charity, Hetty’s Haven. The non profit runs a 15 bed house for victims of domestic abuse. They house women and children, sometimes for months. Community Service is always in need of twin and lap size quilts along with baby quilts. CPS will continue to need lap size or smaller- withOUT batting-when children are removed from their homes.

We have fabric and thread. Come and ‘shop’ and help us out. There is usually an increase in demand around the Holidays.

Thanks to all who volunteer on the third Thursday of each month. We are there 9-3 enjoying each other’s company and sharing quilting tips. We meet at the back of the Nevada County Historical Society building, next to Sierra Presbyterian Church at the corner of Ridge Road and Nevada City Hwy.

Home Workshop Bonnie and I cannot believe that another year of Home Workshop has ended. We want to thank Jill Schlagater for her wonderful class on making covers for tissue boxes that allow them to truly coordinate with the colors and themes we want … like her Kaffe Fassett room. October and Ginny Lee brought the year to a close with her mesh tote. Thank you, Ginny. Now we look forward to next year with more sewing and fun. New Offering! Come January…. In January, we will begin Quilting 101. At a previous gathering of HWS, we talked about thread and needles and we will bring that information to share again. We plan to cover the basics of quilting and use new skills to create small useful projects for gifts, home, or the quilt show boutique or silent auction. Please look for the sign-ups. Theresa Finn and Bonnie Lattin-Hensel

2019 Shop HopQuilter’s Quest Shop Hop

Nov 8, 9 & 10 “The Quilter’s Quest Shop Hop is a fabulous way to kick of your holiday season gift shopping with the latest fabrics, books, patterns, notions and gifts for the sewers in your life. Hop the shop, get creative and get quilting. You will receive 2 free fat quarters at each shop.”

When can you experience 8 spectacular Bay Area quilt stores in one weekend? The Annual Quilter’s Quest Shop Hop! For three days November 8-10, travel through the beautiful wine country of Sonoma and Livermore; view Antioch’s picturesque San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta; explore the quaint charm of Bay Area “small towns” Lafayette, Danville, and Winters; and stopover at the Sacramento Valley’s edge in Vacaville; delight in the spectacular view of both the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge in Berkeley. Each destination has eye candy and inspiration galore!

Hall of Honor It is that time of year to be thinking about Hall of Honor nominees.  As described in the Guild Policies the "Purpose for this special award enables the Guild to acknowledge and show appreciation to a member that has contributed to the Guild or the quilt world in a special way."  The Criteria is "Nominee must have been an active member, in good standing, for a minimum of eight (8) consecutive years and shall have supported the Guild's activities and goals by having served as an officer or on committees or contributed to the Guild in a significant way,"

Nominations were collected at the October meeting, and the committee will be reviewing the nominations and presenting their recommendations to the Guild Board at the November Board meeting for a vote.  The selected member(s) will be announced at our December Holiday party.

Barbara Ceresa Co-Vice President

The Devas did it again…prizes galore, and classes to expand our skills as innovative quilters!

Guild Challenge 2020

Shh… it’s a secret! Please keep your challenge entry a secret until after voting at the reveal during the March Mixer meeting. The PTQG 2020 Challenge theme is “A Sign of the Times”. I am eager to see your creative take on the theme, as there are a plethora of directions you can go. Size is limited to wall hanging, so please no bed size quilts. First, second & third place ribbons will be awarded. I am looking forward to seeing your entries.

Ginny Lee Guild Challenge Chair

SILENT AUCTION GOODIES

My motto lately is "Just Get It Done!"  I'm such a procrastinator, but I'm finding it very rewarding to turn over a new leaf--even if it's taken me decades to do it!!  With that in mind.......before you find yourself neck deep with holiday projects, please help your guild out by making ONE item for the silent auction.  I personally love practicing my free-motion quilting using a panel for achild's size quilt, but if you love making placemats, table runners, aprons, etc. ~ GO FOR IT!

Look for us at the next guild meeting and thank you!

Judy Hamilton ChairRuth Bertaccini Co-Chair*

FEATURED QUILTER 2021

It’s time to nominate the 2021 Featured Quilter. The criteria used to select the Featured Quilter are:  1) Member of the Guild for four years and 2) Active member of the Guild.  We’ll have forms at the Guild meeting that will include previous Featured Quilters who are not eligible again.  However, you can also email your nomination to Sophia at [email protected]

The famous Raffle Basket show ...

The Raffle Basket Committee is looking for volunteers to join a FUN LOVING group to work together on the 2020 Quilt show. In 2019 we had an amazing number of 22 baskets with creative themes and outstanding items for quilters, knitters, and the “dude” in your life! The effort resulted in generating useful funds for our Guild. In 2020 we want to continue the fun, giggles, and profits - so please join us - as either as a contributor, a volunteer to the committee, or BOTH - what a concept!

We are looking for sponsors for baskets, and will have forms to pick up and return in the near future (January 2020). Mini-groups often combine their unique talents and creativity to craft some excellent baskets and clever themes.

The committee thanks you for your anticipated contributions. It is because of your generosity that the Pine Tree Quilt Guild prides itself on having a reputation for exceptional Raffle Baskets. Let's make the 2020 Raffle Baskets reputation continue and enhance the Pine Tree Quilt Guilds profitability..

Cheers, Ione Ishii, Chairperson but Ione is nothing without: Ginny Lee, Nancy Holtz, VIckie Black, and Kathy Biggs, who are Rock Stars on this team!!!! If you join us you will have fun, rewards, great treats, and plenty of laughs - promise! Be a Rock Star, too!!

Ione Ishii - 510 449 8931 and/or [email protected] living in Nevada City, but still with that Bay Area phone number, because NO ONE answers their landlines due to the IRS or Social Security SCAM artists vigilant efforts!

Patchwork Star for October 2019 Lori Jacobi(Repeated from last month because they weren’t able to present at the October Meeting)

Opryland, Dollywood, Graceland. We're familiar with these oldies, right? But, with prominent signage we now welcome you to “Loriland” - a quaint and cheerful she-shed at the top of Lori and Arno's beautiful property. Of course, Arno has his car garage called “Dad's Garage”. It houses his beloved '34 Dodge coupe, a work in progress. Graduating from serious furniture design, including heavy wooden church pews, Arno is building this car from scratch to utter perfection.

Loriland houses a zillion playful projects befitting a woman of large appetites. There are labeled red boxes of laces, velcros, foam sheets and clothes pins. You just never know what you might need. . .There are androgynous thrift store finds ready to make their way into one of Heidi Emmett's class projects. Case in point: a man's old shirt makes into a woman's cute and modern apron. As Lori can attest Heidi's energetic imagination is limitless. Lori has just spent a few days at Artistic Alchemy's legendary Tahoe retreat. Perhaps somewhat overpopulated with the world's best useful stuff, Loriland may seem hyper-eclectic to some. Ambitious mends and fixes for playful pursuits are at the ready. She quips: “I really don't want to over commit, but I say 'yes' to way too much.” Her Janome Horizon Memory Craft 9400 is stellar. She actually carried this behemoth to Tahoe! But, normally she takes her cute tiny white Featherweight to classes. Mom gifted Lori with this gem when she turned 14 years old! What a mom! Lori treasures it. She also owns a Serger, a Cricket and a one foot square pressing machine! Somewhat sheepishly, she admits, “ I like gadgets unfortunately. The problem with saving so many things is really counter-intuitive to my past life.”Lori dabbles in all means of sewing projects, not just quilting. She has been sewing since 8 years old, but quilting for three. There's a neatly constructed classic car panel with lively circus-y triangles all around. A fussy raw edged horse awaits thread painting. The neighbor's beautiful dog art quilt also awaits finishing touches. Vests with ambitious trims announce her cheerful attitude and exhibit much thought and inventiveness. Many varied projects jostle for Lori's attention, each so near completion. Likewise, her professional history is also energetic and varied. There's not been an unscratched itch. Plucky and resourceful, Lori has mastered the corporate ladder filling a volume of notable enterprises. She's been a buyer and manager, flying to New York for Nordstroms. And, then there was Eddie Bauer, Burlington Coat Factory and Mervyns. Well, actually, she has a

college degree in pharmaceuticals, but suggests: “Who wants to count pills the rest of your life?” She even taught DIH (do it herself) projects at Home Depot for women! I had inquired about a fully equipped tool bucket for building stuff – you know, --hammer, pliers, screwdriver--in her sewing shed sitting amongst fabrics?!Candid and confident, Lori is ambitious in her pursuit of so many varied projects. She will name it and claim it. There are no speed bumps in Loriland. The zenith of her true career may yet come.
