Help us make this school year the best yet for our students!

The PIE Plate Partners In Education of Clark County Summer 2017

Paige attended undergrad at Morehead State University, received her

Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law, and was

sworn in to the Kentucky State Bar in May of 2017. A native of

Morehead, she is now practicing law at Fugitt Law Office in

Winchester. In her free time, she plays in several recreational soccer

leagues, reads any book she can get her hands on, and spends time

with her nephew, Liam. She has enjoyed getting to know Winchester

and everything it has to offer and is excited to join Partners In

Education and donate her time.

Leggett & Platt has been a partner with PIE for over a year. This past year they partnered with

the Area Technology Center (ATC) at George Rogers Clark High School and have offered a co-

op opportunity to those students.

For the upcoming school year they have agreed to partner with not only the ATC, but also Justice

Elementary. The Leggett & Platt staff will be offering a once a month Enrichment Day for the

Justice students.

Thank you to Leggett & Platt and their staff for their willingness to expand their partnerships with

our schools!

Partner of the Year

The PIE staff and Board are pleased to award Leggett & Platt the 2017 Partner of the Year Award! PIE executive director, Greg Yates, and Mike Kindred, the principal at our Area Technology Center (ATC), decided about a year ago that there was a need for companies who would be willing to establish a co-op program for the ATC students. Leggett & Platt jumped at the opportunity to be the guinea pig and figure out how to make it work. This year they had four students working about 10 hours per week. These students go through the same rigorous interview and training regimen that any adult would go through. They started at $9 an hour and after so many successful weeks of employment they were given a dollar an hour pay raise. The three seniors worked 30 hours/week the second half of the school year.

Pie is thrilled to report that all three of the seniors have accepted job offers from Leggett & Platt to work full time upon graduation starting at $15/hour. The program has been such a success that Leggett & Platt wants to co-op 7-10 students in the fall. This company is setting the example for our community to help our students be college and career ready while also building their own pipeline of employees. They have set the standard for others to follow.

Congratulations to Leggett & Platt on being the 2017 Partner of the Year!

WE HAVE MOVED!!
