Her recital and chamber music performances have been featured on Radio France, Radio Suisse Romande, Arte TV, and WQXR in New York. An advocate of new music, she works regularly with young composers and has premiered a number of chamber works. She is the pianist on “Sea of Reeds”, an album of Gerald Cohen’s music for clarinet and chamber ensemble released by Navona Records in November 2014. For three consecutive seasons, Alexandra successfully curated “Kaleidoscope,” a concert series at the WMP Concert Hall in New York, exploring diverse musical themes and bringing different forms of art together. Her first CD “Dances and Songs” was released in October 2014 on the Victor Elmaleh Collection. Alexandra received degrees from the Paris Conservatory and The Juilliard School. Her principal teachers include Rena Shereshevskaya, Brigitte Engerer, and Jerome Lowenthal. In addition, she has worked with artists such as Pierre- Laurent Aimard, Itamar Golan, Vladimir Krainev, Vera Gornastaeva, Pnina Salzman, Emanuel Krasovsky and Ivan Moravec. Alexandra Joan is a doctoral candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center on a full scholarship and is currently studying with Ursula Oppens and Richard Goode. THOMAS MESA, CELLOCuban-American cellist Thomas Mesa is a soloist,

recitalist, chamber musician, teacher, and doctoral candidate at the Manhattan School of Music. He is the winner of the 2016 Sphinx Competition, as well as First Place in the Thaviu Competition for String Performance (Chicago 2013), First Place in the Alhambra Orchestra Concerto Competition (Miami 2006), Semi-Finalist in the Naumburg International Cello Competition (New York 2015), Outstanding Musicianship award from New World Symphony (Miami 2006), and Ray Millette Young Artist’s Award and a Certificate of Merit in Music from the City of Miami. His recital engagements include the Mainly Mozart Festival, The Heifetz Institute, Meadowmount School of Music, and Euro Pianos in Naples.

Thomas is a member of the Grammy-nominated St. Petersburg String Quartet and St. Petersburg Piano Quartet, and has presented sold-out concerts in venues including Barge Music, Music Mountain, and Doheny and Kohl Mansions. He has toured with Itzhak Perlman and alumni of The Perlman Music Program nationally and internationally.

As a soloist with The Crossing Choir (an acclaimed ensemble recognized by ASCAP’s Award for Adventurous Programming in 2009 and 2011), he has appeared in numerous NYC and Philadelphia venues, most notably at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where he gave the US Premiere of Astralis for choir and solo cello by Wolfgang Rihm.

He has performed in ensemble or as soloist in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, WMP Concert Hall, the Adrienne Arsht Center, the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, and Jordan Hall. He has also been heard on PBS’s From the Top recorded live in Boston.

Thomas’s past and present faculty positions include the St. Petersburg International Music Academy, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Montecito International Music Festival, The Mozart Academy at John Jay College in New York, The Gould Academy in Maine through the Distance Learning Program at Manhattan School of Music, and Meadowmount School of Music where he will teach a masterclass in 2016. He also founded a

private teaching studio in New York City, where he currently resides. He has attended summer festivals and institutes including The Perlman Music Program’s Chamber Music Workshop and Vermont Residency, Heifetz International Music Institute, Banff Masterclasses, Kronberg Academy, Royal Danish Academy Masterclasses, Aspen Music Festival, and Kneisel Hall.

Thomas has held principal cello positions in The Juilliard Orchestra, Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in Boston, Greater Miami Youth Symphony, and Northwestern Symphony Orchestra (where he also performed in the contemporary music ensemble). He has performed under the batons of James Levine, Tan Dun, David Afkham, Alan Gilbert, James Conlon, Nicholas McGegan, Ludovic Morlot, Franz Welser-Most, Joel Sachs, Benjamin Zander, Victor Yampolsky, Donald Nally, and Timothy J. Robblee.

Thomas is a graduate of The Juilliard School (B.M. 2012) and Northwestern University (M.M. 2014), where he received the Richard and Helen Thomas Fellowship and Graduate Program Honors for extraordinary contributions to the string department. His principal teachers are Timothy Eddy, Hans Jorgen Jensen, Mark Churchill, Ross Harbaugh, and Wells Cunningham. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Manhattan School of Music where he studies with Julia Lichten. He plays on a cello made by Richard Tobin in 1826.
