Robert (Bobby) Pendragon is a normalfourteen year-old boy, until his mysterious

of a lifetime that requires:
Saving the universe,
Avoiding getting killed by a sadistic demon,
Helping steer territories of the Universe

Why Did I Choose This Book?I chose this book because this is one of my favorite series that Ive
ever read (and Ive read a lot). It also makes you think. Why did that
happen? Who did that? Youre kept questioning all the way through the
whole story. You can feel what the characters are feeling, you can see
what theyre seeing, you can hear what theyre hearing, and you can smellwhat theyre smelling. D.J MacHale has a way of writing that makes you
feel like youre there in the story, watching on the sidelines. I also like this
book because its got a good length. The first book is 374 pages long (so if
you dont have the patience to read a book that long, then this book is
probably not for you) and I cant finish this book in a day, like most books
(because sometimes I buy books, then I read them in a day, and my moneyis wasted) so these books will keep you busy for a while. Also, these books
will keep you hooked until the very end. Youll finish a book, and have to
have the next one right next to you or youll go crazy waiting to get the
next one. This series is pretty long, so when you finish it the first time, the
time it took you to read the books would be so long that you could read
them all over again!

My Favorite Passage
Ready? Uncle Press asked.No. I replied honestly.
Good, I would be surprised if you were.
He shot back. He kicked the bike into gear, hit
the gas, and the two of us sped down the quiet
suburban street that had been my home for the
past fourteen years.
I hope Ill see it again some day.-- The Merchant of
Death, by D.J MacHale.
I like this passage because this is where
the story really starts.

Reading Strategies: Visualizing
One of the reading strategies I used whilereading this book is visualizing (which I think everybodyuses automatically). I used them when Bobby isdescribing what Saint Dane looks like when they firstmet:
His hair grew long and straight until it was overhis shoulders. His body grew until he was nearly sevenfeet tall. His skin became ghostly pale. His clotheschanged from the khaki brown cop uniform, to an all-black suit that vaguely reminded me of the far east. Butnone of that mattered as much as his eyes. His eyesgrew icy blue and flashed with and evil intensity thatmade me understand the sheer force of will that hepossessed Its a very descriptive paragraph that helps
you visualize what Saint Dane that looks like.

Reading Strategies: Context Clues
I also used context clues, becausethere are some words that arent reallywords and are made up purposefully for
the book, and they dont make muchsense to anybody if they dont usecontext clues. For example, the word:Quigs means nothing to you unless
you read around the book and find outthat they are bloodthirsty, man-eating,shape shifting dogs beasts.

Recommendations
The book says on the back that the age
recommendation is ages 10 and up. I agree that the book
would probably be a little hard to understand at an age
younger than 10. The books also get more complicated as
you read through the series. Usually when books like that arerated like that, up usually means 10 to 20. I let my
grandmother borrow the first book, and she loved it- so that
generalization doesnt really apply here. The genre is science
fiction, but it could be labeled as fantasy, romance,
adventure, or history. The book is narrated by a teenage boy, but I
recommend this book to girls, boys, men, women, parents,
and grandparents. Yeah, theyre really that good.
