Shrek the Musical Jr. a Huge Hit! By: Caydence Zawlsky

On April 15, 16 and 17 the PCS Drama Club presented Shrek the Musical Jr. to record audiences. It was an amazing play. The actors were great and the costumes were excellent. The show was hilarious!

Thirty students ranging from grades 3 to 12 were in the play. There were 15 songs and lots of dance numbers. Mrs. Maxson, one of the advisors of Drama Club and the play’s director said, “We were thrilled with the support of the audience at each show. The auditorium was packed all weekend. Our kids were so elated. They acted, sang and danced their hearts out. We’ve all spent the past four months rehearsing and working to make this the best show we could and we succeeded. It will be very hard to top this one!”

My favorite part of the show was when Shrek and Donkey save Fiona from the Dragon. Donkey gets chased by the Dragon. I loved how the actors made themselves look like they were running and falling in slow motion. It was really funny.

Many people made this show happen. Miss Burdick, the other Drama Club advisor was the stage manager. She, along with her crew had lots of props and set pieces to move. They even acted out roles of guards and rats! Mrs. Weimer, the show’s music director, helped all the actors learn their music and did a lot of things to encourage the whole cast. Nik Carapalletti, (’14) was the show’s choreographer. He worked with the actors to teach them all the great dances they did. Mrs. Maxson and her mom, Ms. Monica Thomas and Miss Burdick put all the costumes together. There were 89 costumes for this show!

The wireless microphone system was generously provided by Olean Community Theater. Parent and student volunteers helped to sell tickets, concessions, headbands, and fan o’grams. The Drama Club thanks everyone who helped to make the show such a wonderful success.

If you didn’t get a chance to see Shrek the Musical Jr. you really missed out on a great show, in my opinion.

Why?By: Danae Carrier

Once upon a time, not very long ago, I was at my locker and some girls beside me were talking about skipping class. “Yeah, I’m skipping with %&@#.”

Why would anyone do that? You go to school to go to class to learn things so you can get a good job, and raise a nice family.

There is a reason we go to school. Yes, the government forces us to go to school, but it’s for our own good (see last sentence of second paragraph). What’s the point of going to school if you’re just going to not go to class? Yes, school can be boring sometimes, but the boredom is going to help you in life. Many things in school will help you, even if you don’t know that now. I don’t know why or how exponents are helpful, or how you use them, but I learn it. Hard work in school will lead to a brighter and wealthier future. So don’t miss out on class. No matter how useless class might be, it will help you. (Not to mention the consequences of getting caught skipping…)

Book ReviewEveryday Angel: New Beginnings

By: Reanna Carrier

The author of Everyday Angel: New Beginnings is Victoria Schwab. The main character of the book is Aria; she is the angel. In this book another main character is Gabby Torres. Marco Torres is Gabby’s big brother. He is in the hospital. If I were to rate the book 1-10 it would be a 9 because the book was amazing. But, one part of the book is amazingly sad.

Gabby Torres is the little sister of Marco. She is going to a new school while Marco is sick in the hospital. He is there for a long time. Aria, the angel in the book , is required to help three people. She is given three 12-year-olds. If she helps them she will be given her wings. Gabby Torres is her first mission.

The History of St. Patrick’s Day By: Reanna Carrier and Lydia Szymanski

A man named St. Patrick was born in Britain to wealthy parents. He was born on March 17 around 460 A.D. At the age of 16 he was taken captive by a group of Irish raiders. They got him to Ireland there he spent six years in prison. During the time he worked for them as a shepherd and he stayed away from people. After that he escaped.

According to his journal he heard a voice and believed it was God speaking to him in a dream, telling him to leave Ireland. Patrick walked 200 miles from County Mayo. In a dream an angel told him to return to Ireland and became a missionary. He was there more than 15 years.

Saint Patrick’s Day was made an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century and is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Lutheran Church. The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, céilithe, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks.

& ENTERTAINMENTMovie Review:Batman vs. Superman – Dawn of JusticeBy: Cadence Zawlsky

If you love action and a little bit of drama this movie is perfect for you. It is action-packed with a few big fights and some little ones. Also, if you love superheroes there are actually three superheroes in this movie. And of course, where there are superheroes found, there will always be a supervillain close by. In this movie, the supervillain is the son of the ever dreadful Lex Luther.

Batman vs. Superman- Dawn of Justice is PG-13. There is only one swear word in the whole movie.

If you ask me – you should definitely go to see the movie, otherwise you will miss out on something amazing. It will leave you on the edge of your set for the next movie…if there is a next movie.

Advanced Gym Installment # 3 By: Danae CarrierOn the day of the game Max woke up at 7:00 a.m. After getting ready he walked to his dad’s car and plopped down in the passenger seat. In 20 minutes they pulled into the gym parking lot. Max forced himself out of the car and into the gym. At the sound of the door opening all of the cats inside turned to look at who came in. At the sight of Max they all groaned, then went on to stretching. Max sat down on the bleachers. Mr. Garvey burst into the gym like some type of athletic jack-in-the-box. “Everybody into their teams!” he barked. Everyone got up and ran into two groups – Team 1 and Team 2. “I’m not repeating any rules,” shouted Mr. Garvey. “Team 1 will have the red flag and Team 2 will have blue.” He tossed the flags to the team leaders. He also started handing out the guns and pellets. “Shoot in the head and you’re out,” he barked. “And don’t break anything – it comes out of my paycheck!” HE finished handing everything out. “All rules of capture the flag apply to this game. Hide your flag anywhere you want and defend your territory. You may go… now!”Both teams raced out. Max stumbled along, trying to stay with his team. After one minute of brisk running they stopped. Evan Wilde spoke. “Abbie Lance is a leader. She is a cruel, malevolent captain. She will destroy us. She’ll ruin us. That is why I propose to leave Max behind.”Before Max could even protest they all disappeared. So, Max wandered around alone. Suddenly he heard a noise.

Three Sixth Grade TeachersBy: Alixandrea Willover

Today I’m interviewing Mrs.Enos, Mrs.Cole and Mr.Waugh.

Mr.Waugh, Mrs.Enos, and Mrs.Cole’s rooms are located in the middle grades hallway.

First, let me talk about Mrs. Enos. She is a sixth grade teacher. She likes when the children’s (lightbulbs) ideas come in mind. Her favorite part of being a teacher is the kid’s personalities.

Secondly, I interviewed Mr. Waugh. He likes to teach because of the sixth grade students. He likes hanging around us kids too! His favorite part about teaching is the friendships we all have.

Finally, I’d like to introduce Mrs. Cole. Her favorite thing to do in school is to watch the kids do what they learned from all the teachers here. She also loves when kids use the knowledge she taught them.

In my opinion, they are the best teachers ever. I thank them for everything they’ve done. Thank you Mrs.Cole, Mrs.Enos, and Mr.Waugh for putting in all the hard work and effort this year!

Hobby/Art By: Courtney Hathaway

I love art. Doing art makes me happy because, it helps me. Whenever I do it I’m sad, mad, or feeling bad. It mainly happens when I’m mad, or done with a fight. I love drawing too but I don’t do it when I’m mad only for other things….. Art also makes me happy because I get to draw what I’m feeling. This is why I love art as my hobby!

“I love my job.” Mrs. Enos explains.Mrs.Enos teaches ELA Common Core and Social Studies for her homeroom.

Mrs.Enos said, “I’m not as young as I used to be! LOLZ! Yes, the books we read are read year after year, so I know the ending before you do.”

After all, Mrs.Enos is a great teacher. She teaches us more and more every day. I hope to see her teaching when I graduate.
