Consistory Calls
Congregational Meeting
Sunday, April 17 10:30 a.m.
A congregational meeting has been called by the Consistory for Sunday, April 17 at 10:30 a.m. for the singular purpose of voting on the renovations and expansion of the St. Paul Street lobby.
After considerable discussion and clarification of the proposal, the Consistory voted to move the full proposal to the floor of a congregational meeting. This proposal includes the elimination of the library/conference room wall which will create an open welcome and coffee area. The proposal also includes the expansion of the lobby area towards St. Paul Street. The extra 200 square feet, plus the moving of the doors towards the center of the lobby should facilitate a more natural flow of foot traffic as people enter, exit and pass through the lobby area from all directions. The aesthetic look from St. Paul Street should remain the same, with the exception of the exterior wall being a few feet closer to St. Paul Street.
The costs for this proposal total $147,000, plus a $13,000 contingency.
Consistory member Bill Brucker is the primary spokesperson for this project, so please approach him with any questions. See you at the meeting!

The Kids Crew Pasta Mission Dinner was a huge success. The variety of pasta and desserts were amazing. The kids did an awesome job preforming their skits. We raised
$752.00 for Kindercottage. I would like to thank all who; brought pasta and/or desserts, helped set up, serve and clean up.
Little Friends Preschool is now enrolling for the 2016-2017 school year. If you
are interested or know of someone interested, please have them call Jody
Taake at 618-604-1949.

The Explore Scholarship to Eden Seminary
There is not just one road which leads to Eden Theological Seminary. Eden is a place where the life journeys of a diverse group of faithful people intersect to study and experience the unfolding of God’s calling in your life. The gentle nudge of exploration may come from a friend or a family member, from an ad or a newsletter, from a pastor or a professor. There is no one way. We hope the Explore Scholarship will help you acknowledge and act upon that nudge. The Explore Scholarship is awarded to students beginning a Master of Divinity degree at Eden Theological Seminary. To be eligible for the Explore Scholarship a student must be a member of a Christian congregation, enrolled at Eden full-time (9 credits or more) and participate in Eden’s Contextual Education program. This full-tuition scholarship is for the first year of study only. For more information about how to make the best use of your gifts, please contact Eden's Admissions Office at 877-627-5652 or one of your pastors.

Earth Day Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for this beautiful planet. Bless it and keep it safe
from harm. We pray for the protection of animals, the soil, air
and water. May we care for all you have made. Help us to love
the earth as you do. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Lord is good: his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100:5 Lord God, our Father, we thank you for all the light you give us and for all your loving help in outward things as well. We
come into your presence and ask you to give us your light and your guidance for the path we follow. Grant that what is of heaven may be revealed on earth, that we may rejoice in the good and beautiful things you give to all people. Our Father, show us the way, and free people from their sin and darkness so that they will recognize your glory. Give us strength for this goal. Rule and work in the hearts of many people, that through them your glory is proclaimed to all. Amen.

Everything in us is moving. The heart pumps, the blood flows, lungs expand and contract, eyes roll, eardrums vibrate. To be alive is to be moving. Inhibit the movement and you create illness. Stop movement and you are dead. Allow it fully and you realize WELLNESS. Because of this movement, everything is changing from moment to moment. To block movement is to block change. The unmoving water becomes a stagnant pool. The moving river cleanses itself. The unmoving body becomes a home for infection and depression. The moving body gives the channel of life. Without movement you have no dance, no work, and no play either. It is that easy!! Movement changes both your inner and outer world. With spring in the air, use your energy to create energy for a better wellness of your life!

Summer camp at DuBois Center is a unique experience, full of opportunities to unplug and grow in faith-face to face. Surrounded by new friends in God’s creation, campers find a safe space to discover the courage to be themselves and followers of Christ. Relationship building and faith –focused activities woven throughout each day: from creek walks to campfires, beach fun to bedtime. Courage in Community: Fearless Faith explores some of the most epic stories in the Bible. We’ll play, pray, create, serve and learn as we discover community with stories from the Bible. In these stories we see that living as God’s people both requires and provides us with courage. For more information go to www.DuBoisCenter.org

The House of Neighborly Service began a couple of years ago as an idea out of St. Paul UCC in Waterloo. It soon expanded to include other churches and not-for-profits in Waterloo. Others, mostly within the Waterloo school district boundaries, soon began to join. Now it includes churches, not-for-profits and civic organizations from throughout Monroe County. (The entire list of those working with HNS, which includes our own St. Paul, may be found at the end of this article.) HNS spends much of its time in the coordination of assistance to those with particular needs. However, because of the relationships built among its members, its most public work has been to coordinate funding for and facilitate meals when the flow of state resources was cut off from the Western Egyptians Senior Meal Program (commonly known as Meals on Wheels). HNS, with specific support from the YMCA and Human Support Services, has submitted an application for the state grant to provide the Senior Meal Program for Monroe County. Notification for these grants will not be made known until this summer, and the program year does not begin until October 1, which is the beginning of the state fiscal year. The ultimate goal of HNS is to become a community based, transformative organization that is proactive rather than reactive to the needs of the residents of Monroe County. The House of Neighborly Service also coordinates many services on a daily basis: auto repairs, clothing, Daycare assistance, food assistance, holiday baskets, home repairs, rental assistance, senior respite care, transportation assistance, yard work, prescription costs, and other such requests. If someone needs help within the Columbia School District boundaries, you can begin by calling our church. If we cannot provide for them, we will refer them to HNS. If you know of someone in Monroe County who needs assistance, but lives outside of the Columbia School District boundary, please call the HNS Help Line: 939-8680. Member organizations include: St. Vincent DePaul – Waterloo St. John’s UCC – Valmeyer First Baptist Church – Waterloo Immaculate Conception School Immanuel Lutheran Church – Waterloo Hospice of Southern Illinois Hope Christian Church Monroe County Retired Nurses Assoc. Frieden’s UCC – Hecker Waterloo Community School District Columbia Community School District Sts. Peter and Paul Church Sts. Avoiding Temptation
Our 10-year-old loves playing on his father’s tablet but may use only the touchscreen because he’s misused the keyboard and stylus. One day, after receiving permission to play, he detached and handed over the forbidden objects. His dad said, “Just leave them there,” but our son replied, “No, I might be tempted to use them.” We routinely pray, “Lead us not into temptation,” hoping God will almost magically keep us out of trouble even as we stray close to enticements: We buy high-calorie treats while intending to “eat healthy.” We visit big-box stores and spend money we don’t have. We gather with gossipy friends, fully aware that such talk is sinful and harmful. Perhaps we should be more proactive about removing temptations. Perhaps “Lead me not into temptation” means “God, help me keep myself away from that which tempts me toward poor choices.” Amen! —Heidi Mann

All God’s blessings go together, like links in a golden chain. If he gives converting grace, he will also give comforting grace. He will send “showers of blessing.” Look up today, O parched plant, and open thy leaves and flowers for a heavenly watering. —Charles H. Spurgeon
