A Message from Father Brian ~ Dear friends, having arrived at the festive liturgies of this Palm Sunday weekend, we enter into the richest and most profound week of the entire year for us as a Christian people. Today we stride alongside Jesus, as he makes his triumphant way into ancient Jerusalem, and then listen in disbelief as the very same crowds who welcomed him into the city are shouting for his blood. On Holy Thursday, we recline with the Lord at the Passover table in the Upper Room, as he bathes his disciples’ feet, and then gives his own Flesh and Blood to them as the food of everlasting life. We grieve in horror as we see his shattered body hanging limp from the cross on Good Friday, and we stare wide-eyed at a tomb that is inexplicably empty on that first Easter Sunday. These are the events that have quite literally changed the course of human history, and lifted a fallen world out of shadow and into the bright promise of endless joy. Two thousand years later, we are the beneficiaries of all that took place in and around ancient Jerusalem during those wondrous days. But all too often, we move through our 21st century Holy Weeks more preoccupied with the business and busyness of daily life, only vaguely conscious that this is by far the most sacred time of the entire year. To those who’ve told me that the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on the evening of Holy Thursday is their favorite liturgy of the entire year, the parish staff and I extend a welcome to come and experience it yet again. To the many more who have never attended the Church’s services on that evening, or on the afternoon of Good Fri-day, or on the night before Easter—please plan your week around at least one of these services and join us! These are the holiest of holy days, and should occupy the sacred center of our worship for the whole year. I ask that you please save the schedule of liturgies and prayer services taking place throughout the week ahead (see page 5 of today’s bulletin), and resolve to be a part of as many of them as you can. Each compo-nent of our Holy Week observances—from a simple, meditative version of morning prayer at 9 AM on Thurs-day, Friday, and Saturday; to time spent in silent adoration before the Blessed Sacrament in the darkness of Holy Thursday night; to an outdoor experience of the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday; to the joyous fes-tivity of the Easter Vigil—will be that much more complete if you choose to participate in it. May the myster-ies of this Holiest Week awaken in each of us a fresh devotion to the Father’s Suffering Servant, and lead us with hearts renewed and forgiven to a truly joyous Easter. May our brother and patron, St. Lawrence, pray for us! God love you.

NEVER BEEN CONFIRMED?

Quite a few Catholics have not had the opportuni-ty to receive this beautiful sacrament, and for any number of reasons. We would like to make it possible for any adults or young adults to be con-firmed on Pentecost Sunday, June 9th.

In preparation, the staff here at St. Lawrence will be offering a series of 6 or 7 meetings, beginning in April (day and time TBA). Participants would need to be baptized Catholics, who have already received Holy Communion. For now, we’d like to know who is interested. Please contact the rectory, and leave a message for Fr. Tom (589-0042 x 117).

Good Friday Holy Land Collection

On Good Friday, our parish will take up the annual Good Friday Collection for the Holy Land. Each day, the news reminds us of the violence and instability plaguing the Middle East, but we rarely hear of the shrinking Christian community there, a community that struggles to remain in the land of Christ’s birth, death and resurrection. Please help sup-port our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land by giv-ing to the Good Friday Collection. This Pontifical Col-lection allows the Franciscans and others to continue caring for Christianity’s holiest sites and for God’s

people in the Holy Land. Please be generous.

PLEASE REMEMBER ST. LAWRENCE THIS EASTER

As we move closer to celebrating the Lord’s Easter victory in just one week, please be mindful that one of the most important collec-tions of the year will be taken up that day. You may be surprised at how greatly we depend on the financial support we receive at Easter (and at Christmas)—please give some thought to what you are able to contribute, and help our community thrive as we move forward in 2019. You’ll find extra envelopes for your Easter gift near the doors. Many of our parishioners also enjoy lending their support to the beautiful decoration of our church at Eastertime. Flower donation envelopes, on which you can indicate that a gift is in memory of a loved one or other special intention, are also at the doors. Thank you all!
