Dear parishioners and friends in Christ,
This weekend is world-wide Mission Sunday
where we are all called to fulfill our obligation as
Catholics to support the missionary efforts of our
Church by our prayers and financial contributions.
We can all be missionaries right here in our own com-
munity by witnessing to our Faith by our example and
inviting family, friends and neighbors to share in the
joy of the Gospel.
We join in congratulating 9 of our parishioners
who will receive Catechetical Awards for Service this
week from the Bishop. God bless these wonderful cate-
chists and we all thank them for what they do for the
children of our Parish Family.

Academic excellence in a faith-filled environment
The SSCM Cross Country team hit the ground running even before the
school year got rolling! With Coach Amber Sanchez at the helm, the
team began meeting up in August to start training and learning the ins
and outs of what it takes to challenge themselves in the coming weeks
during the Cross Country season. Coach Sanchez is a triathlete, a group
fitness instructor and the mother of three boys at Saints Cyril and Metho-
dius and she has been volunteer coaching SSCM’s Cross Country team
for three years now.
The Catholic Middle School Athletic Association (CMSAA) provides a
structure for interscholastic athletic competition among middle schools
in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, offering a variety of sports each sea-
son, ranging from Baseball, Softball, Basketball and Soccer to Volley-
ball, Lacrosse, Bowling, and Cross Country.

SSCM Cross Country Team Hits the Ground Running!
OUR SCHOOL SPIRIT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT – CATCH IT!
In Cross Country running, teams and individuals run a race on open-
air courses over natural terrain. The courses vary in length, may in-
clude surfaces of grass and earth, pass through woodland, open coun-
try, and include hills, flat ground and sometimes gravel road. The
benefits of Cross Country are both mental and physical. Cross Coun-
try training builds versatility and stamina, with experience running
over a wide range of speeds and terrains.
Saints Cyril and Methodius has participated in CMSAA programs for
over seven years and this year’s Cross Country Team includes 16
middle school boys and girls, whose meets take them to a diverse
range of Long Island terrains and parks, such as Belmont Lake State
Park, Sunken Meadow, and Heckscher Park, to name a few. At the
heart of the CMSAA’s Mission Statement is their role in helping
develop well-rounded athletes, so the program’s coaches seek to pro-
mote physical endurance and good sportsmanship, while fostering
teamwork and Catholic values in all of their players.

One Faith – One Family – One Community 2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal One Faith – One Family – One Community
It is only because of the generous support of tens of thousands of parishioners throughout the Dio-
cese that we are able to serve all of God’s people here on Long Island.
If you have already made your gift to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, please know how deeply grateful
we are for your generous support. If you have not yet made a gift, we prayerfully invite you to con-
sider doing so. As always, you have the option to make a pledge which would be payable over the
next few months.
Did you know that the Catholic Ministries Appeal makes it possible?
for us to join together as one Catholic family on Long Island to serve more than 600,000 people each year?

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
CONFERENCE
Your support of our Parish conference of the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul has enabled us to bring God's mercy to our
neighbors who are stressed out, hopeless, alone and fright-
ened. Between October 1, 2015, and September 30, 2016, we
have been able to directly assist more than 60 people in our
community. During that period, our volunteers have made 141
home visits, and over 600 telephone calls in service to our
neighbors. A special word of thanks to our dedicated volun-
teers, who have donated over 700 hours of their time during the
past year to support our ministry. Our activity has increased
significantly from the prior year, which was the first year that
our Parish conference was in existence. There is much need in
our community, and with your support, we are trying to do
whatever we can to help.
The next conference meeting will be held on
November 2, 2016, in the Senior Center at 7:15 p.m.
If you, or anyone you know is in need of assistance,
please contact us at 631-667-4044 ext. 175, or at
Dear Friends of Outreach
We‘re your Parish social ministry Simplified!
Outreach and as always, we extend our sincere
thanks for all you do to keep us operating. Truly without your
generous food donations this ministry would be severely chal-
lenged, if not collapsed! We’re unable, however to handle clothing
donations, and ask that rather then placing them in the church foy-
er, you put them in the St Vincent De Paul clothing bin in the rear
parking lot of our church. Be assured they will be gratefully put to
good use. Please bring baby items, including food, furniture, toys,
equipment and clothing up to size 4T to the Life Center across the
street from the church . They will all be warmly welcomed. We
ask so much of you, on behalf of our clients, and you always de-
liver. Thank you and God Bless FOOD PANTRY NEEDS

More From Our New
Director of Religious Education
To my dear Family of the Eucharist,
Once again as a reminder, due to class sizes being full and lessons being over a month under way, REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. ONLY LEVEL
1 REGISTRATION FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED IN OCTOBER.
I am a firm believer that you can always be told that you are great at what you do and that you are appreciated. Therefore, Catechist of the Month
is the newest addition to our program! Students and parents can nominate a
Catechist and tell me why they love them and why they are amazing at what they do! There will be a winner chosen from Level 1 to Level 4 and another
chosen from Level 5 to Level 8. For those students and parents who would
like to nominate a Catechist, submissions can be emailed to me at [email protected] or be submitted in the mailbox on my office door.
Every nomination must contain the Catechist’s name, the Level of the student
and why their Catechist is so amazing! I have already received nominations and will continue to accept them until Sunday, November 13th. The Catechists
who are chosen will also receive a special surprise for the students that they
teach!
Don’t forget to download our app! The parents, students and Catechists have been using it and love it! Information about our program, parish news and
upcoming events are sent out every day! If we get a certain percentage of
people to download it as soon as possible, we will be entered to be in the running of winning a grant for our program! Those new people who register
will also be entered in the running to win a Starbucks gift card! So far, we
have met MORE THAN HALF of our goal for the time period that has been
given, and we still have a few days left! Tell your friends and spread the word
so that we can be entered! If parents, students and Catechists still want to
download it, please call me at (631) 667-4044 ext. 145 or email me at [email protected] with any questions!
Have a great week!

The RCIA process will begin this Fall!
What is the RCIA?
The RCIA is a process by which non-Catholic adults, or Catholic adults who did not receive
all the Sacraments of Initiation, learn about the Catholic faith and gradually become full mem-
bers. Every year adults are welcomed into the Catholic Community through the RCIA.
Do you know someone who has not been baptized and is interested in becoming a member of
the Catholic Church?
Any adult who has not been baptized and would like to begin the journey in preparation for
the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist), should call Deacon James
Murano at the Parish Center: 631-667-4044 x127.
This process is also for adults of other Christian faiths who have already been baptized.
Adult Catholics who never received First Eucharist and/or Confirmation:
If you are an adult Catholic who was baptized and for some reason never completed your Sacraments
of Initiation, you are invited into this process to help make that happen.
More volunteers are needed to be a part of our RCIA Team!
If you would like to help the candidates along their journey of faith during their time in this process,
please contact
Deacon James.
HOMELESS INITIATIVE
Parishes and Churches in the Town of Babylon have been
meeting over the past two (2) years to discuss a Homeless
Initiative during the cold winter months.
Two local parishes have agreed to house the homeless over-
night one night a week beginning in December.
We will be serving a hot meal at night and breakfast in the
morning. Additionally, we will be sending them off with a
bag lunch. Many hands will make light work and we can
use some more.

TRIBUTE TO USHERS Violet Rourke Broderick
In my parish church one Sunday
A thought occurred to me
That numerous are the tasks performed
By the Ushers' Society
These quiet handymen of God
Are faithful all year round:
Passing collection plates and baskets,
Pleased when seats are found,
Issuing bulletins, envelopes, palm,
Opening windows and doors-
Whenever assistance is needed,
It's the ushers who tackle the chores.
And ever they go on their thankless way.
Up and down all the aisles,
While over the years, as hair turns gray,
Their steps have stretched into miles.
But I'm sure there must be a special place-
Perhaps with a golden aisle.
Where angels usher these kindly men,
To the throne of God and His smile.
So give them a grin or a greeting,
A nod or a word or two,
Remember, in serving Jesus,
They still have thoughts for you.
