The Thread of Time

By Core Team member Michael Baker

Curious! The idea that there is a thread passing through time. That is an accurate description for how the Maya

indigenous people see time being connected. It deserves a meditation focus all on its own.

In the Maya calendar called the Chol Q’ij, or Tzolkin, which is known as the “Mayan calendar of the Habitual Rite”,

each of the 260 days has a particular “essence” attached to it. One of these “essences” is known as Bat’z (Chuen in

Yucatec Maya) - nothing to do with the Bat creature. The Bat’z day in the calendar is woven with stories of monkey

scribes and the creation by primordial One First Father and One First Mother.

The day of Bat’z appears 13 times in the 260 day calendar, but when it appears for the eighth time it sits almost

exactly in the middle of the calendar round. When this happens time present is observed, as it connects with time

past and time future. It is especially about the web of time rather than linear time as we western people know it.

This coming 12th December in the Gregorian calendar is indeed 8 Bat’z and it is the last time it appears before the

end of the 5,125 year long period ending on 21st December. So it is hardly surprising to find that Maya Elders are

making special ceremonies for the day of 12th December, given the connections I have indicated in the above

paragraph.

Is it appropriate for example to be concentrating our inner focus on this day as a portal to take whatever positive

influences we feel appropriate into the new Era beginning after 21st December?

I hope and trust those who feel the calling will join in the energetic preparation this day calls for. We are on an

amazing roller coaster.

A Universal Declaration of Peace

Core Team member Michael Baker has sent us the following article, “for your awareness of what is unfolding”.

A CEREMONY TO RENEW THE WORLD

December 21st 2012 marks the end of the Mayan calendar's 5,125-year ‘Thirteen Baktun’ cycle. On this date, Peace 2012

and an alliance of many other organizations will gather globally in a unified ‘Moment of Peace’.

These events will bring together spiritual leaders and indigenous elders from many traditions to be part of a 'Universal

Declaration of Peace', a multicultural statement that incorporates affirmations of peace from all the world's great spiritual

traditions and cultures. The Declaration will then lead into a simple moment of silence, a universal moment of reflection that

anyone and everyone can participate in globally.

The purpose of this campaign is to create a global ceremony to give birth to the Sixth Sun on December 21st 2012. This

announces the beginning of new World Age and the renewal and transformation of humanity.

A GLOBAL MOMENT OF PEACE

Through a globally synchronized ‘Moment of Peace’ at the exact point of Solstice at 11:11 UT, we will make a worldwide call

for the protection of all Sacred Sites and World Heritage Sites. This will be anchored with ceremonies and meditations at a

number of these sites, including Stonehenge, Teotihuacan, Uxmal, the Pyramids of Giza, Chichen Itza, Lake Titicaca and many

other locations.

Peace 2012 provides a simple, yet effective, template that invites people from all cultures to celebrate this singular moment in

time, in any way that they choose. Events of any size and scale can be synchronized around the Peace 2012 'Moment of

Peace'.

RECLAIMING CEREMONY AND SACRED SITES

Since ancient times people from all over the globe have gathered at sacred sites to honour their ancestors and thank the Earth

in sacred ceremony. In this way, many indigenous people believe, stability and harmony are maintained on Earth. Sacred sites

are places of power and importance because of their geographic relevance, or because temples and sanctuaries have been

built as places to hold ceremony and prayer. Many sacred sites are recognized today as cultural heritage sites by UNESCO for

their historical and cultural importance.

December 21st is an opportunity for all these cultures to join together in one unique moment in time. An important goal

of Peace2012 is to support this and provide assistance in accessing these World Heritage sites for peaceful assembly and

worship at this time.

THE CAMPAIGN

The focus of this campaign is to create a global ceremony to give birth to the Sixth Sun. This announces the beginning of new

World Age and the renewal and transformation of humanity as planetary caretakers. Through a worldwide synchronized

“Moment of Peace”, at the exact point of Solstice, we will collectively focus our intentions at a single moment globally. At the

same time, we recognize the underlying unity of humanity and all of the diverse lineages that make up the indigenous peoples

of Earth. We will call for the protection of Sacred Sites and World Heritage Sites worldwide and universal access for ceremony

and spiritual practise at these sites.

Among others, celebrations will take place in Teotihuacán, Mexico; Palenque, Mexico; Chichen Itza, Mexico; Uxmal, Mexico;

Tikal, Guatemala; Island of the Sun, Bolivia; Stonehenge, England; Uluru, Australia; and Mount Fuji in Japan. Many of these

are considered World Heritage sites for UNESCO.

2012 and the Evolution of Consciousness

By PC member and author Patricia Mercier

December 21st 2012. What does it mean? What will happen? What do the Maya prophecies say?

These are tantalizing questions but the answers are not so far away. Wherever we turn with wide

open eyes and hearts attuned to the workings of cosmic energies on Earth, we see indicators that

humanity is facing a period of great change as the impulse for evolutionary consciousness becomes

apparent to more and more people.

It is as if the great pendulum of time has swung from the deep darkness of despair, materialism and greed, into the light of hope,

co-creation with the natural world and the essence of living together in harmonious communities. It is evident in the moves

towards environmental awareness, appropriate technologies, and in both planet care and people care. We pick up this positive

swing into year 2013 and beyond as, sometimes small, sometimes large and dramatic, indicators that indeed, ‘times, they are a

changing’. In my book ‘Crystal Skulls and the Enigma of Time’ I explored this movement towards positive evolution on physical

and spiritual levels:

‘If we look through evolutionary eyes we will see the unfoldment of a 600-million year progression of life on Earth, from the first

multi-cellular fauna to modern humans. It is a journey of transformation where, according to biologists, the history of life tends to

move in quick and quirky episodes rather than gradual evolution. It is pushing us forward to birth within ourselves and within our

times a universal human capable of co-evolving with nature and co-creating with Great Spirit. This new humanity I began to call

Homo spiritus.’

The birth of Homo spiritus isn’t about a disincarnate entity – it is about you and I and the evolution of humanity. At this very

moment of Now we can each choose to drop fears that divide us and act in unity of our Oneness, releasing the unsustainable

demands of the twenty-first century. So let’s ride the wave of collective goodness and surf to catch that elusive moment when

the new creation cycle, heralded by the Maya, begins.

Many great minds have turned their attention to this uprising of human consciousness: philosopher Jean Gebser, mystic Sri

Aurobindo, visionary Sir George Trevelyan, scientists Rupert Sheldrake, Ervin Laszlo, writers Ken Carey, José Argüelles, Drunvalo

Melchizedek, Barbara Hand Clow among them, and countless wise teachers from indigenous nations, notably the Maya, Inca and

Hopi peoples.

Key to the evolution of which we all speak is an awakening; an elevation of consciousness, from material physical levels to an all-

encompassing ‘superconsciousness’ simply expressed through linking our hearts and heads. This is where the call becomes

personal and no longer an abstract concept. It emerges from releasing all that is immediate, tuning in to the core of your being,

then rising through subtle energy fields into the connective depths of your heart-mind. Here each cell is linked to every filament

of your auric rainbow body and in a moment of ‘no time’ is consumed by infinity.

The journey towards superconsciousness is through kind thoughts, gentle words and living your truth in the practice of

meditation, whilst remaining in the moment of Now and your everyday world. This takes you into the ‘Anima Mundi’, meaning

the ‘soul of the world’ spoken of by ancient philosophers and alchemists as the divine essence that energizes all creation. The

mysteries of life, of nature, are written within it and it is a template for emerging evolution. In this process any irrational human

fears or limiting patterns are released in the knowledge that every one of us is on this planet to learn life lessons that we

contracted to discover before we were born. So the outcome of this spiritual evolution is already known at some level of our

superconsciousness - it is just up to us to awaken.

December 21st 2012 has become a key date in our modern Gregorian calendar because it has been linked to prediction, much of

which is not of Maya origin. Sadly it has been encumbered by the fear factor. Everything built up around the 2012 date is recent

interpretation, and traditional Calendar Daykeepers of the Maya in Central America simply see time as continuous cycles within

cycles. Contrary to popular belief there have been no predictions from the Ancient Maya other than that we can expect changes

in keeping with the ending of a 5120 year long cycle and beginning anew. Yet it is precisely because people are focussing their

Page 4: The Parallel Community is a linking network and a platform ...Melchizedek, Barbara Hand Clow among them, and countless wise teachers from indigenous nations, notably the Maya, Inca

4

intentions upon the 21st of December that it can be used to swing the pendulum of time into a positive direction. Imagine the

power of millions of people all focussed simultaneously upon a call for spiritual evolution, a call for Light and Worldwide Peace.

How can this happen? Below I give a simple meditation to practice leading up to the 21st and in the following days and years.

Modern Maya Daykeepers have said that we are entering a new cycle of creation and our concept of time will change. They are

urging us to live authentic heart-felt lives that do not rely upon dubious interpretations of past events or future negativity but

instead bring us into the moment that is Now where all is possible.

In your meditations imagine a bright

Light of wisdom and unconditional love

caressing and transmuting everything it

touches. Let this Light spread in ever-

increasing circles from your heart to

your immediate environment and to all

animals, trees, plants, birds and insects.

Let it circle out across the land,

reaching the sea, distant countries and

then finally encompassing the whole

planet in radiance. Envision all

humanity re-connecting with this Light.

See our Earth aligning with the Galactic

Centre, re-structuring positive Earth

energies that will take all life forms

inhabiting her into a unified future. Like

all the cells of your body that go to make up YOU, so you in turn become similar to a cell in the whole web of life. Treasure this

unity as a jewel of Light in the starry nights of cosmic time yet to come, that has been, and is.

From my heart I wish you joy and peace in 2013. Alloa Patricia Mercier. www.mayasunserpent.com

Birth 2012

By Core Team member Lynn Forrest

There is so much anticipation about this moment in our

history. We humans have found every way possible to bring

our collective attention to focus on a turning point, a crisis

or tipping point - December 21st 2012. Whether you have

read ancient prophecies, listened to channellings, watched

disaster movies or caught YouTube clips, many of us have a

gut feeling that something is about to change.

I have too. For a long while I have come across much of the

2012 information that is out there. Some of it I find

fascinating, some full of fear. Whichever way I have looked

at it, one thing persists for me: that we humans have

created this moment to bring us to our senses. Somewhere

in our psyche we all know we are heading down the road of

extreme and we’ve had enough. Our ancestors knew this

too and left us countless warnings. Spirit always knew this

human cycle had to come to an end. It boils down to two

things: we do not have to choose the path of difficulty and

we have to change our behaviours to something positive,

compassionate and sustainable.

Being interested in this momentous timing, I came across

Barbara Marx Hubbard’s book ‘Birth 2012 and beyond’. She

sets out clear and practical ways of how we can make this

period work for us. She tells her story, over decades of

personal inspiration, of how she has gathered people

together to discover new ways of co-operation and envision

a better future for Humanity: the re-birth of the Human.

And this woke up a spark in me that said “this is what it’s all

about”. The book has many elements of Parallel Community

and Barbara, being a well-connected lass from the USA, has

been able to co-ordinate a network of people and

organisations to support a forward-looking movement to

connect the rest of the world in like-minded sharing. It

enables anyone, everyone, to connect, share and support

news ways to make a better world. It’s well worth the read.

You will recognise the core of Parallel Community in it. It

may inspire and delight you into bringing about this

wonderful transformation of Humanity we’ve all been

waiting for. I know it has for me and I’m looking forward to

the Birth Party. See you on the other side.

Two Important Dates

Core Team member Lindsey Price writes,

Let us be consciously aware of these special times.

12.12.2012 - This is a good opportunity for us all collectively or individually to “tune in” and to send out thoughts of peace and

harmony from our hearts to the world. There are many events happening all over the world; for instance, there is a National

Om event at Wembley; but if you are not involved in any major events, then this is an opportunity to sit quietly and beam out

thoughts of love to all that is, so that together we can help to create heaven on earth.

21.12.2012 - This is a day many of us are looking out for as it is officially the end of the Mayan calendar. However it is

interesting to note that not only the Mayans, but the Hopi, Maori, Tibetans and Hindu spiritual traditions, to name but a few,

have marked this time as a period of major shifts and transformations, both personally and globally. Maybe there will be some

talk of the end of the world (as we know it). How exciting and what an opportunity we have to all join in thought, word, and

deed, to expand our consciousness and live in a kinder, more peaceful way.

We can start by opening our own hearts, radiating positive energy to our homes, our communities, our countries and the

world: the inner being reflecting to the outer world. It can be as simple as that. Because it seems simple, this does not mean it

is ineffectual. Please do not underestimate the power of your positive intention and thoughts. Together, we can all help

change the world for the better.

Giving

Core Team member Mario Peters writes,

This year’s December full moon marks the end

of another year-cycle and the long winter-

moon nights provide us with an opportunity to

reflect on the past year. When Parallel

Community Core Team member Michael Baker

started this year with the “Walking your talk”

time map in January’s newsletter, he offered

us a way to focus on a different theme for

each full moon.

The theme for this last 2012 full moon is “Giving”. For long Yule has been the traditional season for giving presents, and many of

us are probably familiar with the rush of having to buy a last minute present because it is, in some way, expected from us. Or

because we want to return the favour in case someone else gives us a present. But this is not the kind of giving that I want to

write about.

There is another kind of giving. Giving without expecting something in return, giving from the heart! And it is the kind of giving

that we can practise all year round: each day anew. It is the simple giving of loving kindness, and of compassion. A smile for the

stranger you meet in the street. A kind word for the person at the counter. A small contribution towards the street musician. A

friendly thought about the driver who forgot to give way. And also kind thoughts and appreciation for your Self.

This giving is a way of blessing everything and everyone. It is a blessing that raises the vibration of our collective existence. A

blessing that improves the atmosphere everywhere we go. A blessing that can change lives. This is a blessing in motion that will

return to us even though we don’t expect anything in return.

I am reflecting on what I have given to others this year to see if I have missed any opportunities and how I could improve on

spreading the joy next year. Everyone benefits from more smiles, more kind words, more compassion, and more love & care. It is

so very simple, easy to do and a great intention for the coming year.

The Giving Shop

A wonderful new idea has hit Penzance in Cornwall where a group of churches have got together to open a Giving Shop. It's an

empty high street shop waiting to be filled with new, unused items that many of us have stored away in cupboards. Once the

shelves are filled, the gifts are sorted and distributed to groups within five local charity projects. Volunteers from the churches

group also parcel up any toys and children’s items to give to those children who would not otherwise receive gifts this Christmas.

I helped my elderly Mum sort out a whole cupboard of boxed items, left over from receiving 'free gifts' with various orders over

the past year or so, that she has no use for, and delivered them to the Giving Shop. They were delighted and thrilled that their

idea had captured local imagination and the shelves were filling up nicely.

Their message is: "it is in the giving that we receive" and that is certainly true of the thanks and appreciation I received on

delivering our small contribution.

We all have something new or unused lurking around the house: why not help someone else by donating it to your local charity

shop, or start a Giving Shop yourself? Many empty high street shops can run for free for a limited period these days, in

consultation with your local council. And if you live in Cornwall, the Giving Shop is not too far away to make a contribution to.

Merry Christmas! Lynn Forrest

Book Review

By PC member Ann Procter "Star Pilgrim" by Simon Small, subtitled "A Story of the Deepest Mysteries of Existence" is a

fascinating story that will keep you reading for its own sake, though it is certainly not short.

However, embedded in the adventures of the main character, Joseph, is a message which

will warm the hearts of PC members with its view of the future as we emerge from the

prevalent paradigm of materialism. The author is a Christian priest with extensive

experience of various other spiritual paths including what is loosely called New Age. He

engages with the individual explorations of those who meet him in his role of Chaplain at the

Abbey House in Glastonbury and in no way tries to impose any doctrine on anybody. I have

met him and felt nourished by his discourse, which also applied when reading this book.

You could believe that Joseph in the story is his alter ego. Much of the plot could be written

off as fantasy, yet all that occurs comes across as genuine and potentially viable. His insight

into the personalities and quirks of the characters he brings into the story is penetrating and

always kindly. His love and care for humans and humanity shines through. Good Parallel

Community food!

Simon has also written a much smaller book called "From the Bottom of the Pond", which addresses prayer from many different

angles in a collection of essays, contemplation and the present moment being the underlying themes.

You can buy the books from Amazon, also find out much more about both books, and about the author, with contact link, on

Core Team is not 'running' or 'directing', we merely facilitate, create opportunities for people to connect, and maybe even

enable people to get together and start a project with one another, or with a group of people.

We were wondering if there might be any members who would like to become a “Promoter” for a specific group? Your activities

could be: adding new information, triggering conversations, adding new photos or videos, asking questions to the members or

anything else that creates a buzzing lively group.

With 2013 around the corner, there's an excitement in the air! And maybe we will find ourselves feeling really fired up and

motivated to do something rather (r)evolutionary together once the Winter season gives way to the new growth of Spring? Let

Christmas 1990

Many years ago, whilst Christmas shopping in Plymouth, I was

handed a leaflet by a nice young man in the precinct. Normally

I would throw it in the nearest waste bin, but on this occasion I

took a look at it. The words printed on the pink sheet of paper

spoke deeply to me, and I've kept that piece of paper carefully

saved in my 'special things' tin ever since. I don't know if the

young man who gave out the leaflet was the author, or

whether the verse touched him so much that he felt compelled

to share it, but I am eternally grateful to him. You see, that was

the start of my spiritual journey and I have never looked back,

only grown in wisdom and personal strength since then and

been blessed with a positive view of life. I would like to share

that verse with you now, as we near a very pivotal point in

humanity's development.

Rocks on the Canadian Prairies

By PC Member Nancy Bell

Northwest of Brooks, Alberta, on a small hill lost in the rolling prairies that dream under the sun, is what appears, at first glance,

to be an unassuming pile of boulders. From ground level the significance of the scattered stones is hard to discern, but from

above the arrangements become startlingly clear.

Even though the deserted prairie settlement of Majorville is thirty kilometres to

the northwest, this collection of stones is known as the Marjorville Medicine

Wheel. Majorville is only an abandoned Quonset hut now, but used to be a

general store, en route to the carefully placed stones over the rolling prairie.

Leaving the gravel roads behind, one picks one’s way across the buckskin

landscape by means of the oil lease roads stitching the prairie together. There is

another way in from further south that uses more conventional roads, but the

site is still very inaccessible and hard to find.

There are literally hundreds of stone circles and alignments throughout southern

Alberta and into southwest Saskatchewan. Some extend down into the United

States as well, but the majority of them are in Alberta. There are 46 known

medicine wheels alone. The Majorville wheel is perhaps the best known of the

arrangements. It sits on a small hill that overlooks the blue ribbon of the Bow River

far below the cliff where the land drops off sharply to the east. The central cairn is

10 metres in diameter and almost 2 metres high. It is estimated this central cairn

contains approximately 50 tonnes of rock. There is an outer ring of stones which is

connected to this central cairn by 28 radiating lines or spokes. There has been some

interference over the years but the basic integrity of the site has been preserved.

In 1971, an archaeologist investigated the site and found that unlike the British Block Cairn near Suffield, Alberta to the south,

this one was built over a long period of time. The site was dated by the layers of projectile points and also by carbon 14 testing.

Close to 3,000 artifacts were found. The cairn was begun 5,000 years ago, 1,000 years before Stonehenge and 500 years before

the pyramids at Giza. Signs of activity show that the arrangement was added to by six successive cultures dating to the time of

European contact. There is a thousand year gap when the site was not in use, between 2,000 and 3,000 years ago, which

corresponds with dates of the Altithermal heat wave which warmed the land and sent the buffalo north.

The Majorville arrangement sits at 50.585 degrees N, 112.411 degrees W,

at the same latitude as Stonehenge, and appears to have served some of

the same purposes. There are alignments of other cairns and huge stones

which mark solar and lunar standstills, as well as winter and summer

solstices. These markers stretch over an estimated 30 square kilometres.

The cardinal directions are marked as well. Gordon Freeman who studied

this site over the course of many years calls it the Sun Cairn Ring near

Majorville. The core of the huge arrangement is made up of three hills

of equal height which are 919 meters above Mean Sea Level. Viewed

from the main cairn looking to the southwest the top of all three hills is

level with the horizon. The middle hill is 1.3 kilometres in distance and

the southwest hill 1.8 kilometres away.

There is information available on the treasure trove of stone arrangements on the Canadian prairies, but it is sometimes obscure

and hard to track. Gordon Freeman’s book, ‘Canada’s Stonehenge’, published by Kingsley Publishing, is the most comprehensive

work I have found. He has also filed his field papers in the University of Alberta archives in Edmonton. ‘Stone by Stone’ by Liz

Page 9: The Parallel Community is a linking network and a platform ...Melchizedek, Barbara Hand Clow among them, and countless wise teachers from indigenous nations, notably the Maya, Inca

9

Bryan, published by Heritage House Publishing Company, is a handy guide to the sites scattered across the landscape, often with

decent directions on how to find them.

In his book, Mr Freeman draws some interesting parallels between the configurations at the Sun Cairn Ring and Stonehenge.

While Mr Freeman’s work is incredibly detailed and immensely interesting, it looks mainly at the site from a scientific point of

view, measurements and positioning etc., and fails to address the atmosphere of the sacred that permeates the site. There is a

feeling of taking one step sideways and entering a world where the land dreams itself into existence under the sun, the stones

speak, the wind sings and the prairie short grasses whispers secrets and wisdoms for those with ears to hear.

The Sun Cairn Ring is shy and hides itself in the wind-blown grasses, with hawks crying sharply above and the odd golden eagle

soaring overhead. The prairie itself is hallowed ground, and the symbiotic relationship between the earth, the sky, the water of

this dry land and the ever present wind is sacred.

Community in action

John Watts, a PC member, writes,

I have very recently had a conversation with my niece, who lives in

Fairfield, Connecticut, in the United States. The town is right on the shore

and recently sustained much damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

Many houses were destroyed or flooded, and families made homeless.

Three women who had grown up in Fairfield put out a call for volunteers

to meet at the beach on Sunday morning, 11th November, to clear up the

town and to help those people who, through age or infirmity, were

unable to help themselves. Three thousand people, including over a

thousand from out of town, came to help, and worked from dawn to dusk

to put things right. http://newsok.com/volunteers-help-hurricane-cleanup-at-

A similar event occurred in the devastated New York borough of Staten

Island; here people are being mobilised to help especially via the

Facebook page “Rebuild Staten Island” and other social media. http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/hurricane-sandys-social-media-clean-up-efforts-

Staten Island. It is so good to know that community can flourish when

times get hard.
