Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed lots of good food and time with your family. We had a wonderful Santa painting peppermints class with Carol. It will make a great addition to my Christmas collection. Thank you, Carol. I am looking forward to all of the Christmas party festivities that Carol and Sherry have in store for us. Don’t forget your hand painted ornament for gift exchange. We will also have a silent Auction. So bring your checkbook. And don’t forget your potluck dish. Janiece Teagarden who is chair of our Hospitality and also puts together our Newsletter may be moving out of state. We will miss you Janiece. Good luck! I am happy to announce that Fran Wilson and Debbi Vartanian have volunteered to share the job of Hospitality. Thank you Ladies! This means we will continue to enjoy our great potlucks. And Rama Shotwell volunteered as Newsletter Editor. Thank you Rama. We have enjoyed our rooms at the Water District for free for many years but starting in January of 2017 we have room fees. Please turn in your end of year tickets and support the raffles to help offset the room charge. I want to thank all of the Board Members and the Committee Chairs who help make this Chapter great! We are a great Team. See you at the holiday party… Robyn Editor: Rama Shotwell [email protected] Asst. Editor: Maureen Kleinman [email protected]

Membership News PCA membership has grown this year and we hope to continue this trend into 2017. Many current members have already renewed before the December 1 deadline so they’re eligible for the random drawing prize which will be announced at the Holiday Party. Good luck to all! Please welcome the following members for 2017:

New Member: Rhonda Payne McKanna of Irvine Returning Member: Bernice Short of Fresno Returning Member: Barbara Gagen of Bonsall

Linda Martin has coordinated some terrific teachers and classes for 2017 which you can see on our website. Sign up for a fun day and bring a friend or family member. SDP and PCA memberships make great Christmas and Hanukkah gifts! If you know someone who might be interested in painting but isn’t ready to commit to a full-price SDP membership, there are 2 other options:

Trial Membership: if you have not been an SDP member for the last 3 years, you can re-join for $30.00 per calendar year with all benefits except a printed SDP magazine; on-line version is available. Student Membership: if you know a fine arts college student or younger artist who might be interested, they can join SDP for $15.00 per calendar year with the same benefits as a Trial Membership.

I’ll be at the Holiday Party on December 11 and will be accepting 2017 membership renewals. Please fill out a membership form so we have all current contact information. Happy Painting! Maureen Kleinman – VP Membership [email protected] (310) 480-8769

A New Painting Convention In September, Sherry Choquette and I met up in Oklahoma City at the first annual PAINTING PALOOZA. This convention was developed by Bob & Katie Van Horn (Bear With Us), Larry and Cheri Rol (Rol Publications), and Darla Foreman & Janette Ward (Turtle Hollow Artists). There were so many wonderful classes from several teachers that no longer or rarely attend SDP or Creative Painting any more. Great classes aside, this group has payed special attention to making the entire convention experience fun. There were raffles, drawings, or giveaways nearly every day as well as several social activities. There was a Fiesta night, an Ice Cream Social, and trade floor preview Pajama Party. One of the best treats was running into PCA members we haven’t seen in a while – Sharon Hively, Connie Rand, and Sharon Shuster. It’s odd we had to travel half way across the country to see them but, so much fun catching up with them. The Convention is in the Reed Center Sheraton Hotel just ten minutes from the airport. Shuttle service is available. There are two other hotels sharing the parking lots. The class catalog for the 2017 show will be available in mid- February. Save the dates October 23-28, 2017 and seriously consider attending. Visit the website for more information – www.okcpaintingpalooza.com Carol Ganzi, TDA [email protected] (310) 273-5096
