TRANSITIONS – work in progress

TRANSITIONS: ‘The process or a period of changing from one state to another.’

The Fine Art MA course at the University of Chichester offers an opportunity for students todraw on past experience and develop new ways of making. The artists taking part in this show -Diana Brighouse, Maggie Tredwell, David Wise, Natalie Pudaloff and Dorothe Haverhals - comefrom very different backgrounds and explore different material practices. The exhibition comesapproximately halfway through their MA studies, and the work shown here reflects the point inthe students’ journeys at which they now find themselves. The work may appear disparate insubject matter but is unified by representing a transition point for each artist.

Clear Spot

In the study of Fine Art, students learn something of Captain Beefheart's (Don van Vliet)wisdom, in his natty refrain: ‘you have to run a long way to find a clear spot’. Here at the Universityof Chichester we have the luxury of a wonderful location, a great programme and team, andgood facilities to help students find their way through the challenge of discovering their own clear spot for thinking and making like an artist. In this exhibition we see developmental workfrom a selection of Level 4 and 5 students (first and second years) as they progress towards thefinal hurdle of the Degree Show (this year's Degree Show can be seen concurrently in artOne).
