Were Ottawa’s lived• Our Tribe is the Ottawa tribe. Do you

know what the word Ottawa means? It means trade. The Ottawa’s were very good at trading. Do you know were the Ottawa tribe lives? In the summer the Ottawa tribe lived by the shore of lake Michigan. When it wasn’t summer they lived in Southern Ontario. Others lived Oklahoma. Do you know what kind of houses the tribe lived in? They lived in villages, long houses and wigwams.

The Woman’s job is to farm, cook the food for meals and helping the children.

The men were hunters and they went to wars to fight.

• This is a canoe • The Ottawa tribe made canoes by burning a log or out of trees. The canoes are still popular now with in the Ottawa tribe.

Contact with the Europeans

• Do you know what happened when the European settlers came? Lots of problems started among various tribes. In 1650 the Iroquois sent the Ottawa’s out of there homeland and beyond the Mississippi river. But the Dakotas didn’t like them on there land so they sent them back north
