• Is there such thing as a “hot” war?
![Page 3: The Origins of the Cold Warthelearningvault.weebly.com/uploads/1/5/9/6/15968700/the... · 2018. 9. 7. · Cold War: •Intense economic, political, military, and ideological rivalry](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022071003/5fbfce45a3e7ae4f7b1cc11d/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)

• During the entire Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union never openly fought each other militarily

• The alliance between the United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union has been called “The Tenuous Alliance”
• Tenuous = weak
![Page 7: The Origins of the Cold Warthelearningvault.weebly.com/uploads/1/5/9/6/15968700/the... · 2018. 9. 7. · Cold War: •Intense economic, political, military, and ideological rivalry](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022071003/5fbfce45a3e7ae4f7b1cc11d/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Why was it called the Tenuous Alliance?
• The United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union all had different, and sometimes competing, views of what the postwar world should look like
• The alliance was held together by a common goal of defeating fascism. As the war drew to a close, the differences between the Big Three became magnified
