THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Spoken Responsively)
Eternal Ruler of all, you have made us citizens of your glorious realm, led us into a land of milk and honey, and given us a place in your house. Yet we have lived as though your table were bare, and your promises empty. Open our eyes to see the goodness and bounty of our inheritance in Christ. Teach us to live as your children, trusting fully the goodness of your rule, the greatness of your power, and the extravagance of your love. Amen.

THE PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION ..................................................................... Ben Cahoon
THE FIRST SCRIPTURE LESSON: Luke 19:47-20:8 ........................................... Ben Cahoon
Every day Jesus was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him; but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were spellbound by what they heard. One day, as he was teaching the people in the temple and telling the good news, the chief priests and the scribes came with the elders and said to him, ‘Tell us, by what authority are you doing these things? Who is it who gave you this authority?’ He answered them, ‘I will also ask you a question, and you tell me: Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?’ They discussed it with one another, saying, ‘If we say, “From heaven”, he will say, “Why did you not believe him?” But if we say, “Of human origin”, all the people will stone us; for they are convinced that John was a prophet.’ So they answered that they did not know where it came from. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.’
THE CHORAL ANTHEM: "God and God Alone” ................................................ arr. Fettke The Sanctuary Choir
THE SECOND SCRIPTURE LESSON: Luke 20:20-26 ............................. The Rev. Jody Moore
So they watched him and sent spies who pretended to be honest, in order to trap him by what he said, so as to hand him over to the jurisdiction and authority of the governor. So they asked him, ‘Teacher, we know that you are right in what you say and teach, and you show deference to no one, but teach the way of God in accordance with truth. Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to the emperor, or not?’ But he perceived their craftiness and said to them, ‘Show me a denarius. Whose head and whose title does it bear?’ They said, ‘The emperor’s.’ He said to them, ‘Then give to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s.’ And they were not able in the presence of the people to trap him by what he said; and being amazed by his answer, they became silent.
ONE: This is the Word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God.
THE SERMON: “What Belongs to God” ......................................... The Rev. Jody Moore
~ We Respond to the Word ~
THE HYMN NO. 379: “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less” ........................... SOLID ROCK
THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH .............(Excerpts from The Confession of 1967, Ch. 9.32)
The life, death, resurrection, and promised coming of Jesus Christ have set the pattern for the church’s mission. His life as a man involves the church in the common life of humanity. His service to humanity commits the church to work for every form of human well-being. His suffering makes the church sensitive to all the sufferings of humankind so that it sees the face of Christ in the faces of people in every kind of need. His crucifixion discloses to the church God’s judgment on our inhumanity to one another and the awful consequences of our own complicity in injustice. In the power of the risen Christ and the hope of his coming, the church sees the promise of God’s renewal of humanity’s life in society and of God’s victory over all wrong.
THE PASTORAL PRAYER
THE LORD'S PRAYER (Spoken in Unison)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.

This Is God's House. All Are Welcome!
Faith ♦ Family ♦ Friends
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Outer Banks Presbyterian Church! Our Church exists to worship God in Jesus Christ in Word and Sacrament; to join others to know the joy of God’s forgiveness in Jesus Christ; to grow under the Lordship of Christ and to serve Christ’s world in His name. We invite you to share with us our trust in Jesus Christ and to join us as we strive to:
Strengthen our FAITH,
Love and support our FAMILY,
Reach out to FRIENDS in need.
We encourage you to read “Sue’s Story,” the inspiration behind these goals in its entirety, on our website, on a brochure in the Gathering Space or on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall. We hope you will be inspired as we have been.
At OBPC, we recognize all our visitors as God’s children, united as brothers and sisters in Christ. We hope our service inspires you and strengthens your faith. We hope you will join us again in celebration and worship to God. If you are interested in becoming a member or would like to know more about our church and our programs, please contact us!

Our church believes providing worship for visitors is a vital part of our mission. Our building was planned to accommodate the many visitors who come to this vacation community. This places an additional financial challenge on our resident membership. We need and welcome financial support from our visitors.
Welcome!
VISITORS: We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Outer Banks Presbyterian Church! We ask that you fill out the visitor’s card located in the pew in front of you and drop it in the offering plate as it is passed so that we have a record of your visit.
SOUND SYSTEM: Our sound system includes assisted listening capabilities. If you need to use a personal receiver during the service, please ask an usher. Recordings of services are available by contacting the office.
PASTORAL CARE: We want to provide the best possible pastoral care to our faith community. If you or anyone you know are going through a difficult time, please contact the church office.
PRAYER REQUESTS: Please know that we are a concerned body of believers. Should a need for prayer arise in your life or in the life of someone you know, please let the church office know or fill out a prayer request card in the gathering space and hand to an usher or place in the offering plate.
