LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading: A reading from the Book of Deuteronomy (8:2-3, 14b-16a)

Moses said to the people: “Remember how for forty years now the Lord, your God, has directed all your journeying in the desert, so as to test you by affliction and find out whether or not it was your intention to keep his commandments.

He therefore let you be afflicted with hunger, and then fed you with manna, a food unknown to you and your fathers, in order to show you that not by bread alone does one live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord.

“Do not forget the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery; who guided you through the vast and terrible desert with its saraph serpents and scorpions, its parched and waterless ground; who brought forth water for you from the flinty rock and fed you in the desert with manna, a food unknown to your fathers.”

Cantor: The word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God. Responsorial Psalm

Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.

All: Praise the Lord, Jerusalem

Glorify the Lord, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion. For he has strengthened the bars of your gates; he has blessed your children within you. R/

He has granted peace in your borders; with the best of wheat he fills you. He sends forth his command to the earth; swiftly runs his word! R/

He has proclaimed his word to Jacob, his statutes and his ordinances to Israel. He has not done thus for any other nation; his ordinances he has not made known to them. R/

Second Reading: A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians (10:16-17) Brothers and sisters: The cup of blessing that we bless,

is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break,

is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one,

we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.

Cantor: The word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God. Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

All: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia Priest/Deacon: The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit.

Priest/Deacon: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John (6:51-58)

All: +Glory to you, O Lord. + (All trace the Sign of the Cross with right thumb on the forehead, lips, and heart)

Jesus said to the Jewish crowds: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.

Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.

This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died,

whoever eats this bread will live forever.” Priest/Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Homily

The Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father,

through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

At the words that follow up to and including and became man, all bow.

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Universal Prayer (Prayer of the Faithful) Response: Lord hear our prayer.

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY

All: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name

of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest

THE MYSTERY OF FAITH Priest: The mystery of faith. All: Save us, Savior of the world,

for by your Cross and Resurrection you have set us free.

Concluding Doxology Priest: Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, for ever and ever. All: Amen The Communion Rite Priest: At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done. On earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Priest: Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

All: For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles:....Who live and reign for ever and ever. All: Amen.

Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always. All: And with your spirit.

LAMB OF GOD

All: Lamb of God, you take away the sins

of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins

of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins

of the world, grant us peace. Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

If one is unable to receive our Lord in Communion, it is most appropriate to pray an Act of Spiritual Communion: My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Communion Hymn – Instrumental

For many of us, this is our “First Communion” in many weeks. During this time of reception

and prayer, reflect on what you hunger most for, from Jesus.

St. Michael Prayer: St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Prayer after Communion

Priest: Let us pray. Look upon your Church, O God... ...Through Christ. All: Amen. The Concluding Rites

Priest/Deacon: Bow down for the blessing … All: Amen. (After each of the three invocations)

Priest The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit.

Priest: May almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, [+] and the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Deacon or Priest: Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Recessional Hymn - Instrumental
