Facebook or Instagram? WhatsApp or Messenger? What

about all of them? Nowadays, these technological advancements

in social media have enabled people to share more and know

more. Although mostly used to express one’s thoughts or to

communicate to others, these social networking sites have greatly

changed human life. At the heart of this issue on social

networking are the young people who in my opinion benefi t a lot

from social networks. Therefore, I agree to the topic that social

networking is benefi cial to young people for three reasons: it

opens their mind to the issues around the world, it promotes

interaction with people from diff erent countries and it helps

develop their English language skil l .

INTRODUCTION

There are three reasons why I believe social networks are benefi cial to young people. First of all, social networking opens the minds of young people about the diff erent issues that happen in the world. By checking social networks, young people learn about the latest news be it in the political, economic or entertainment areas. Learning about recent issues keeps them informed and makes them able to move along with the rest of the world. The second reason why I agree to the topic is the social interaction that social networking promotes. Through social networks, young people make friends with others like them from diff erent countries. Moreover, interaction with other nationalities makes them aware and helps them understand other cultures. Finally, I believe that social networking is good because it develops young people’s English skills. Because English is the language of the social networking world, young people are able to practice their English by communicating with others using the language.

In the end may I reiterate my position on the issue. As far as I’m concerned, social networking is more beneficial than detrimental to young people because it allows them to learn about issues in the world, it widens their circle of friends and it helps them practice their English. However, it is important to note that everything that is too much is bad. Therefore, young people should use social networks wisely and in a positive way if they want to be benefited.
