Press release Marseilles, 5 th December, 2016 The Onet Foundation gives the city of Marseilles a mobile shower lorry in an effort to help the homeless In order to help the homeless in the city of Marseilles, the Onet Group engineers designed O’Lien, a vehicle equipped with a shower, to go out to meet them. This lorry, developed by the Onet Foundation, was given to the city of Marseilles on the 5 th of December. The Onet Foundation, which works to fight against poor housing conditions and homelessness, has now given the O’Lien lorry to the city of Marseilles. This vehicle, which will be used by the municipal Samu Social, was designed to meet the homeless in the city of Marseilles on their own terms and give them access to a shower. This vehicle responds to two issues that the homeless face: lack of lavatory access, which is increasingly difficult in big cities, and feeling safe. The nuclear expertise of the Onet Group engineers serving the homeless The fruit of two years of labour between security and hygiene specialists, engineers, manufacturers, and experts in the reception of homeless communities, the result is a one-of-a-kind mobile strategy equipped with a reception area, an entry changing room, a shower, a lavatory and an exit changing room. In addition, the strategy imagined by the Onet Group engineers has now been patented. The lorry was designed as a clean room on wheels with a minimum number of contact points; automatic, built-in systems; movement in one direction…linked to a specific cleaning procedure: automatic cleaning and wiping down of contact points between each shower, vapour cleaning between each round and a monthly disinfection from above. The cost of research and development covered by Onet was €100,000. Lambert Constructeur, in partnership with the Onet Foundation, lent their expertise and
engineering to the design and creation of the vehicle. A complementary approach to recreating social connections
Above and beyond the technical aspect, this project aims to offer a complementary approach
allowing homeless people to reconnect to society. For this reason, O’Lien is part of an overall
strategy which includes the creation of lavatories and showers in the city of Marseilles as well as
the installation of public drinking fountains.
The O’Lien lorry, whose total cost was 160,000 euros, was funded by the Onet Foundation and its
partners including: Caisse d’Epargne - CEPAC, Lambert Constructeur, Société des Eaux de Marseille,
CIS Catering, Delta Assurances and private donors, namely through a crowdfunding campaign. About the Onet Foundation
Contributing to human development in a close-to-home, safe and healthy environment Since 2010, the Onet Foundation has been working to fight against poor housing conditions and homelessness in
order to assist the less fortunate. The Onet Foundation enlists all of its manpower (60,000 people) in order to act
together and use its image as a major company to reach other companies and the general public.
Act together: by facilitating the set-up of concrete strategies, this allows people to display solidarity expressed in
favour of vulnerable groups working side by side with organisations. A notable example is the Right to Housing
Solidarity Day (2010-2016) or the actions of Rénov’Plus (2014).
Engage others: by taking action and lobbying with public authorities and awareness campaigns for poor housing
conditions in order to increase attention to these subjects. Yohan Brandt’s photography exhibition “I am…they are”
presented in 2013 in Marseilles and Arles or the screening of Pierre Lopez’s film on the homeless in 2012 at the
Euromed Management School in Marseilles are just two examples.
