Character QuotesIvan- Sometimes, I wish that the glass wasnt there. This quote is from the time that Ivan was talking about when he throws me-balls at the humans. He is sometimes annoyed by them and wants to throw something at them. He wishes the glass wasnt there because he could actually hit them.Bob- You are The One and Only Ivan. This quote is from the time that Bob reminded Ivan who he was when Ivan felt like giving up when he was painting a picture to get Ruby to the zoo. Bob wanted to encourage Ivan not to give up.

Why was Mack kind to the animals at the beginning of the story and then cruel to the animals at the end of the story?Mack was kind to the animals at the beginning of the story because he had spent many years with the animals. He had grown used to them and didnt feel bothered or annoyed by them. There was no reason why he should have been mad or upset with them. Mack was cruel to the animals at the end of the story because he was cutting off the air conditioning at night and wasnt giving the animals enough food. The reason why he was doing this is because the mall didnt have enough money. Mack couldnt leave the air conditioning on because it was just to much money for him to pay.Why was Julia the only one who understood the message that Ivan was trying to get through when he showed her his paintings?Julia was the only one who understood Ivans message because she was an artist just like Ivan. She could always see what Ivan was trying to paint in his paintings, even if no one else could. Since Julia was also an artist, she was able to understand that Ivan wanted to get Ruby to the zoo, and she understood before anyone else did.Why was the word, home relevant to the story? The word, home was important to the story because when Ivan showed his painting of Ruby at the zoo to Julia, he had the word home in it. It showed that Ruby needed a better home, a home that was better than the mall. Ivan thought that the perfect home for Ruby would be in a zoo, because she would have more room to roam around, plenty of food, plenty of water, and a lot more things that she would never get living in the mall. The One and Only Ivan Part Two: A Memorial for the Characters
