As of January 2009 the ophthalmic allied health profession was approved as a separate occupational listing in the Bureau of Labor Statistics Standard Occupational Classification. All levels of ophthalmic personnel are included in this classification.
29-2057 Ophthalmic Medical Technicians
Assist ophthalmologists by performing ophthalmic clinical functions. May administer eye exams, administer eye medications, and instruct the patient in care and use of corrective lenses.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS AND DRUG SCREENS
Some clinical affiliates are requiring that students submit to a criminal background check and/or drug screen prior to placement. The cost for these tests is the responsibility of the student. Students who are refused by a clinical site due to failure to pass these screenings will not be allowed to progress in the program.

TIME COMMITMENT (EXCLUDING BASIC COURSES)
