The House of Lords opens up the chamber every year, inviting people from across the UK to take part in a debating event. This year’s debate is the latest event in a broad outreach programme that aims to raise awareness of the role and work of the Lords.

We are delighted that once again U3A members have been invited to participate, along with young people from UK Youth, in an inter-generational debate on the topic:

‘Parliament 2.0: in a digital society, is politics for politicians or is everyone a decision maker?’

In the run-up to the event, there will be eight ‘Talking Days’ across the UK where members of UK Youth and the U3A will meet each other in an exciting afternoon filled with activities. Starting off with an intergenerational discussion about the history and evolution of democracy, participants will then be introduced to the basics of debating before engaging in a mock debate. At the end of the afternoon, some participants will be selected to lead the debate in the Lords chamber on 28 November.

The locations and dates are as follows:

We need your help to create an archive of high-quality photographs that we can use for our publicity materials and for image requests from the media and external organisations. Competition Rules

• The closing date of the competition is 31st March 2015.

• Entries may be submitted by email to [email protected] or by using the online form (details provided to Business Secretaries in the next Mailing), but if neither of these are possible, you may mail a CD to the National Office.

photographs.

• Entries must be accompanied by the name of the photographer, their U3A and a description of the subject.

• Entries must be supplied as high quality JPEG files with a minimum resolution of 1,600

pixels on the shortest edge.

• Entering photographs into this competition constitutes your agreement to grant The Third Age Trust a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce, distribute, and publicly display the photographs you submit for use in any Trust publicity material, publication or webpage.

Influenced by the Brothers Grimm story, Wheeldon has created an enchanting ballet set to Prokofiev’s magnificent score with stunning sets and costumes by British designer, Julian Crouch. The Chapel belongs to her Majesty the Queen in her Right as Duke of Lancaster. It is a ‘free’ chapel or ‘peculiar’, not falling within any bishop’s jurisdiction, but remaining within the Church of England. It is the last surviving building of a hospital founded by Henry VII for homeless people in 1512. It is a beautiful, intimate space for concerts with a fine acoustic and splendid Walker organ.
