Around the English GardenThe English Garden 29 ranks among the greatest central city parks in the world. It offers numerous bike and walking paths, idyllic brooks, the Kleinhesseloher Lake 30 and several beer gardens. World-renowned is the beer garden at the Chinese Tower 31 where tourists from all over the world rub shoulders with Munich locals to enjoy the pleasant atmo-sphere under the chestnut trees. On the edge of the English Garden along Prinzregentenstraße, two important museums attract visitors: the Haus der Kunst 32 , a worldwide leading center for contemporary art with changing displays and the Bavarian National Museum 33 where visitors can take a tour through the art epochs of the occident from late antiquity to art nouveau. The collection of mangers which is accommodated there encompasses the artistically most precious and comprehensive mangers in the world. On a bridge between both museums, enthusiastic spectators gather to admire the sports skills exhibited on a kind of standing wave by the Eisbach Surfers 34 , both in summer and winter.

Nymphenburg – Lots to DiscoverNymphenburg Palace 35 used to be the summer residence of the Bavarian electors and kings. King Ludwig II of Bavaria was born here on August 25, 1845. The rooms of the palace, the park with its four small park palaces as well as the Marstallmuseum featuring repre-sentative coaches, sledges and riding equipment of the Wittelsbach dynasty and the private collection of Nymphenburg porcelain are noteworthy for visitors. A playful approach to nature, not only for kids, is offered by the Museum Mensch und Natur 36 in the northern wing of the palace. From the park of Nymphenburg Palace visitors have direct access to the Botanical Gardens 37 .
