I am sure you are all very much looking forward to the Bank Holidayweekend. I hope that the fine weather will hold and you have an enjoyabletime.
We are now only two weeks away from the beginning of the Year 11 exams andwe are mindful that the Year 11 students feel under a lot of pressure at this time.I am sure you will support them with exam preparations. This newsletter has
some useful information to support your son/daughter during this time. Details of graduation andstudy leave will also be included by Ms Nixon. Ms Nixon has put together a timetable that willsupport students to the very end of the exam period. The Year 11 assembly will take place on May26 however, students will be expected to be in College after Half Term. Year 11 Graduation will takeplace on the 21 June and the Year 11 Ball will be happening on the 23 June.
The Ten Tors event takes place next weekend and the College has two teams in the 35-mile eventand one team in the 45-mile event. There is a further 45-mile team on the reserve list. We will knowif they are able to take part during the course of next week. It is always a fantastic event and shouldyou find yourself free on Sunday 9 June, it is well worth a trip up to Okehampton Camp to watch theteams come in.
Year 7 recently had an assembly regarding a fantastic opportunity to take part in the Adventure 7programme run by the Rotary Club and Okehampton United Charities in conjunction with AdventureOkehampton. The uptake has been disappointing so far. Activities during the week include highropes, rock climbing, gorge scrambling and raft building. The cost for the whole week is £30 andexceptional value for money. On a personal note, my daughter took part in the programme last yearand thoroughly enjoyed herself and learnt a great deal. We will be distributing the application formby email on Tuesday along with the Year 7 Progress Reports. If you are interested, please returnthe completed forms to Okehampton Post Office.
Last night the College and the rest of the Learning Community hosted an Open Meeting regardingthe proposed move to become a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) outlined by Daryll Chapman in aprevious Newsletter. Thank you to those who attended, the evening was very informative andgenerated several questions. The presentation and written responses to the questions will beavailable on the website in due course.
Congratulations to the KS3Students listed here who wereentered in to a prize draw forhaving either excellentattendance (97% or better) orexcellent conduct (1 behaviourpoint or less) during the springterm.
These students were awarded a£10 Amazon Voucher in additionto a certificate and engraved penthat were awarded to more than400 KS3 students.

Long gone are the days when we would wave goodbye to students at the end of May andsee them occasionally for Exams; instead now we make the most of every singleopportunity we can! With the Exam season so condensed this year many students willfind that there is not much “free” time until the very last week of exams in June… with thatin mind we have put together a revised timetable for students after half term to ensurethat wherever possible we have subject staff teaching lessons right up until the lastminute. Please note that until half term all students are expected to attend theirtimetabled lessons and take revision to do in these classes if exams / coursework havebeen completed. After half term the following timetable will be put into place where
students will still be expected to attend normal lessons but in order to make best use of time we havearranged a few extra sessions where the whole cohort is free.
Please note that all students are expected in College for the start of each day right up until 16th June.
I would also like to flag up that the Graduation is on the evening of the 21st June and the Year 11 Ball 23rd June.We are currently in the midst of organizing both and getting rather excited about it!! More information will be postedhome soon… in the meantime “Quack On Yr11!!”

Exam Stress & How to Survive it!
It’s always worth planning aheadand preparing as well as you canas a family.
• Accept that this is going tobe a stressful time for thewhole family - expectoutbursts and try to remaincalm!
• Try and find out as early aspossible what is expected ofyour child; when their examswill be and when courseworkneeds to be handed in.
• But be clear that avoidingsubjects they find difficult willnot be helpful in the long run.
• Encourage them to talk toyou if they are really worriedthat they haven’t done enoughwork - reassure them that ifthey do not get their expectedgrades there will be otheropportunities ahead, and theyshould just do their best.
• Find out what revisiontechniques are recommendedby the school, what revisionsessions they are providingand check out online revisionsites too.
• If you have any concerns orquestions contact the schoolrather than relying on yourchild to do it - most teachershave email addresses whichcan be useful if they are hardto contact.
Before their exams Tips during revision
At exam time, many parentsare anxiousabout how muchtheir Childrenare studying, whether they arelooking afterthemselves andwhether they willget the resultsthey need. Some parentsalso find theirown difficultmemories ofexams or schoolreturn at thistime and make itharder to helptheir children.
While they are revising childrenare often stressed, anxious andirritable and can have troublewitheating and sleeping. But a fewsimple things can really help.
• Try and work with yourchildand support them rather than“policing” them.
• Encourage your child tohaveregular breaks, to dosomething they enjoy, even ifit’s just half an hour off tolisten to some music or towatch their favourite soap.
• Make sure they eat healthysnacks regularly and drinkenough so they don't getdehydrated - you can alwayspop your head in to see howthey are doing and bringthema drink.
• Exercise is also a goodwayto relax, even just a walkaround the block.
• Children have differentwaysof revising - some maypreferto be alone whereas otherswork best surrounded bynoise and family.
• Respect their body clocks -many teenagers are morealert during the night and thismay be the best time forthem to revise even though itmakes parents anxious!
