Club night June 1st.
Apologies from, Steve Adcock, who I think is in Belgium. Mervyn
Green who has had a knee operation, Mike Norton, who has a knee
injury. Trish Bainborough, and John and Carole Butcher. Trish,
John and Carole were wending their way through France.
The raffle raised £28 for our funds, thanks again to our seller and
caller.
It was good to see Bryn back amongst us after his recuperation. He
hopes to be riding soon. Steve Hannaford also came along. It is
always good to see members who have not been able to attend for a
while.
The families of Ron and Maurice passed on their thanks to those
who accompanied the corteges. Riding gear belonging to Maurice
was given to the club to be sold for our funds.
Ray left his glasses on the seat of his bike when we left the funeral
directors and of course they fell off as he “accelerated away”.
Doubtless to say persons unknown drove over them!
Prior to the club meeting, whilst I was in town, I met Dave
Goldsworthy who told me that he had the misfortune to drop his
bike at one of the funerals. Pity really as he had just sold it and it
was to be his last ride.
Machine Badges.
Pete White has managed to get machine badges made for us. They
will have our logo as that on the front of the magazine and will be in
colour.
These are made of stainless steel and are pre drilled for a bracket.
The cost is yet to be decided I am assured that it will be reasonable,
with the club not seeking to make a profit.

Dartmoor Run
Arrangements are going on a pace with entries coming in at a trickle.
Please get your forms from Dave Denham and sign up as soon as you
can. I have contacted Real Classic for inclusion in their coming events
but note in the last issue that the page could be discontinued. Sad to say
the page did not appear in my latest copy. Many club members have
taken a copy of our run flyer and distributed them to motorcycle sellers
and local restaurants. As mentioned previously club members on the
run could be asked to marshal. This is a great way of seeing all of the
bikes on the run. On the last occasion we were congratulated by many
riders on the efficiency of our organisation so let’s see if we can do it
again. Ray has now managed to secure the Okehampton coffee stop.
Magazine.
I am always looking out for articles for the magazine, just one side of
A4 at 18 point font size would be much appreciated. I can usually scan
articles straight on to the page if it is that size this does save a lot of
time and effort.
Come on you lot, how about a potted history of you and your bike or
bikes. You must be getting weary of tales about my Bullet, the
Whooshey, and Ray’s Bantam. Talking of the Bullet, it was last used
at the December collection for Hospiscare. Just before the last club
meeting I dragged it out of the garage , primed it up and it started first
kick. Miracles do happen you see, keep the faith and remember to
drain the sump before starting up after a lay up. Oh yes! The
Whooshey still starts on a seven year old Chinese battery! OK, now I
will shut up.
A strange thing happened last month.
When I had finished the magazine for June I took it to the printers, as
you would, for printing in to booklet form. The usual request was
made. Twenty seven copies, black and white, booklet form. The shop
was busy so I left it to pick up later in the day. So far so good, I picked
up the printing, paid by credit card and left the shop. When at home I
decided to sort out the club finances and started to enter income and
spend. On checking the credit card statement from the printers I found
that the amount charged was over £80 although the actual bill was just
over £7. Hot foot back to the printers where it was noticed that the
amount charged was actually my PIN. Things were soon sorted!!!
Check the amount before handing the hand set back!!

Rambling Ray
Infamy-Infamy-Infamy
The curse of Ethel-Nole
When Mike N and I started on the Suzuki A100 tank we checked its
condition internally. (as you would). It was clean, sound, and slightly
shiny. Some evidence of “Petseal” perhaps.
So we invested in primer, undercoats, topcoats, and clear lacquers to
bring about a pretty good finish to said tank. A further investment of
£55 was made for transfers to pretty it up. And so the tank was painted
and refitted.
As previously told, the little bike fired up and ran very well indeed. So
after much celebration it was confined to the darker side of the garage
to await Spring/early Summer for MOT.
Last week I unwrapped the bike to fire it up and make checks ready
for the said MOT. But no, it would not start, and on investigation I
found a sticky mess resembling stirred up jelly in the tank. Apparently
some female scientist by the name of Ethel-Nole had invented a lead
replacement which destroyed conventional Pet Seal, encouraged
moisture in to the petrol and generally fouled up petrol tanks as we
know them.
After cleaning the tiny carburettor and fitting a dummy tank the bike
crackled in to life.
We are now faced with (a) cleaning the mess out of the tank, and (b)
resealing with flowliner similar all without spoiling the paintwork in
the process.
Would anybody with a similar experience please talk to me about how
you got on.
Ooh! I do love this renovation lark!!
Happy riding.
