President's Message
WOW, what a time we’ve had since the September meeting. First and foremost is we have suc-cessfully hosted the 2016 60
th New England Meet. Participants came from all of the north eastern
states. A full report will is elsewhere in this issue of the Oil Leak. Secondly, a few of the club mem-bers (Lindens, Erbs, Tallones, Callans, Marshall/Roberson, Stokinger/Johnson) enjoyed attending Model A Day at the MAFFI Model A Museum, located at the Gilmore Museum complex in Hickory Corner, Michigan. And finally we have been able to get out and enjoy our Model A’s on some fun tours and events this month.
October is right around the corner and with it comes the time when we think about winding down our Model A activities. But not before we enjoy some more tours. It is also time for many of us to make our annual trek to Pennsylvania for the AACA Hershey Region Fall Flea Market and Show. This is the king of flea markets, something we have been enjoying for a long time. My first Hershey was in 1973 and I remember pushing the kids around in strollers when the fields were rocks and grass.
The next major endeavor for the club is to come up with a slate of officers for the 2017 season. Finding volunteers always seems to be a chore, so please consider helping the club. The Nomi-nating Committee (JJ, Rich Batstone and Len Michalak) have been canvasing the membership for candidates and will present their recommendations at the October meeting.
I should also mention that we have two dinner tours coming up in October. The first is the Colum-bus Day (October 10) Italian Dinner, which this year will be held at Carbone’s Restaurant in Hopkin-ton. The second is our Wayside Inn Dinner on October 27, a flyer in on page 9. This is always an nice evening out at one of the finest restaurants in the area. Look forward to seeing you there.
Happy Model A’ing

Artie Facts
President Theo Roosevelt went bear hunting, but
had no luck. To avoid disappointing the Pres, his
staff got an old bear and tied it to a tree. When
the President was offered a chance to shoot the
bear, he refused. When a journalist wrote up the
story, he changed it to a little bear cub. An en-
terprising store owner selling kids toys and
stuffed animals put some bears in his front win-
dow with a sign “Teddy Bears”.

TOUR REPORTS
Sept 1 - Carriage House Senior Housing
Thanks to JJ we were invited to display our cars for the residents at
Carriage House in Wayland AND treated to a buffet dinner. The resi-
dents enjoyed viewing the Model A’s and we enjoyed listening to their
stories about days gone by.
The staff at Carriage House treated the Minuteman very nicely by pre-
paring a spread for us to eat before we again showed off our cars to
the residents.
Thanks to the members who attended.
Sept 20 - Drive In Movie Night
The Kern’s side yard really took on the look of a era Drive in as
about 10 Model A’s lined up getting ready for the big screen
presentation.
John and Martha went above
and beyond to set the stage for
the night. They had burgers
and hot dogs on the grill and
plenty of pop corn in the popper.
And plenty of snacks on the table. Our chairs were set up on the
patio for the feature presentation, a classic Harold Lloyd movie
titled “Speed”. The hijinks was fun and watching the old cars in
the movie were an extra treat. The movie was made in 1928 but I don’t recall seeing any Model
A’s in the background. Ice cream was served at the conclusion of the movie. Thanks to the hospi-
tality of John & Marth and the nice weather it was a great night.
It may be early, but a note about the Holiday Party. This year we are trying something
different by holding the event during the day on Sunday December 4th. Attendance in past
years has been waning so we hope this will increase attendance. More information will be
forthcoming.

2016 New England Meet Sept 9 - 11, 2016
A great big thank you and congratulations for a job well done to
all the club members that helped make the 60th New England
Meet a great success. Many of the attendees came up to
us to express what a great time they had at the
meet.
Guests started arriving on Thursday, although the
bulk of the attendees would be arriving on Friday. A
lot of work had to take place on Thursday as we had
to set up the Registration area, Hospitality Room and
the Raffle Room. Thanks to the hard work of a lot of
people, including the hotel staff, we were able to get
these areas open in the afternoon to register those
who had already arrived and wanted a snack AND to
buy raffle tickets.
As part of the registration our guest received a great
tote bag, coasters, microfiber towels, number plate
all with a meet logo and a Ford Employee Badge.
Everyone sure seemed to enjoy these items.
Friday saw another busy time at Registration and at
last count we had 191 registrations for the meet.
Hospitality was busy all day as attendees grabbed
snacks for the self guided tour suggestions that we
had provided. The Raffle Room was also busy as a
number of people and clubs brought last minute do-
nations and we had to make room for them. The fi-
nal count was 160 raffle items, 12 silent raffle items
and three special raffles. The buzz in the raffle room
continued until the doors closed at 5:00 PM on Sat-
urday.
Friday Night was our State Fair event. We had a
number of games to be played and food similar to
what would be found at a fair. The food was a bit of
an issue but the games proved popular and fun for
those who participated. Plenty of candy was given
away as prizes.
Saturday was the grand tour. All the cars were on
the road in record time. The tour took them through
some country roads around the Quabbin Reservoir
and ended at Kimball’s in Lancaster for lunch and
peer voting of the cars. It sounded like everyone en-
joyed the food and ice cream at Kimball’s.
Saturday night was our 60’s party with great food
and music by the Reminesent’s. Table decorations
were record platters for placemats and popcorn filled
jars for snacking. The band was excellent and it kept
the party going well into the night. We did announce
the winners of the Silent Auction items and the spe-
cial raffle for the beautiful quilt donated by the Tread
Heads and framed pictures donated by Wayne
Champagne.
Sunday was the breakfast, which was also very
good, the car awards and the raffle drawings.
Car Awards went to:

Hard Luck: Keith & Geraldine Schedlbauer
Keith & Geraldine were on there way to the meet in
their Model A when a deer ran out in front of them
and they crashed into it causing major damage to the
Model A and unfortunately a deceased deer.
The last item of business was to draw the raffle win-
ners and that was done in record time and everyone
was ready for 2017 in North Conway, NH.
The very last item was the drawing of the 50/50 raffle
and thanks to the hard of Tony, Don and John the
split was $750. Barbara McElhiney

Model A Ford Foundation Inc (MAFFI) Model A Day
The MAFFI Model A Museum is located on the
grounds of the Gilmore Museum complex in the
sleepy town of Hickory Corners, Michigan. On
September 17, the museum celebrated its 3rd
anniversary with its own Model A Day at Gil-
more. For those of you who have not been able
to visit the museum the museum displays not
on-
ly
the
Model A Ford, but the lifestyles during the Model A
era.
The past few years the local Model A clubs have been
including a Model A flea market as part of the activity
and this year was their largest with about 40 vendors
planning to participate. Many of us were able to get a
preview on Friday as a about 10 vendors were set ear-
ly. There were some great looking parts and accesso-
ries for sale.
The festivities also included a special tribute to
our own Art Callan who is stepping down as Ex-
ecutive Director of MAFFI after 18 years in that
position. Art has helped guide MAFFI from a
struggling organization to one that now has
what many of us consider the best museum that
we have visited. Those of us from the Minute-
man club were very happy to be on hand to be
part of presentation to Art.
And since we were at the Gilmore complex we took
the opportunity to visit some of the new museums
added since our last visit, namely the Lincoln and
Cadillac museums. We also were able to check out a
few of the other museum on the grounds.
If you are in Michigan be sure to visit the Gilmore
Museum complex, you won’t be disappointed.
