5TH ANNUAL FALL 4-H KICKOFF

The 5th Annual Fall 4-H Kickoff will be held Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 6:00-7:30 pm at the Trumbull

Career and Technical Center Cafeteria. Clubs will have an opportunity to showcase their projects and

activities as well as recruit for new members. We want to show our communities what 4-H is all about! Local

elementary and middle schools in Trumbull County are provided invitations. We hope that all Trumbull County

clubs will participate. It’s time to start brainstorming about club promotional items and an activity to share

with our visitors!

TRUMBULL COUNTY SHOOTING SPORTS PIONEERS 4-H CLUB NRA YOUTH SPORTSFEST

The Trumbull County 4-H Shooting Sports Pioneers’ Club are hosting a free NRA Youth Sportsfest on

Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 10:00 AM- 2:00 PM at the Vienna Fish & Game Club on SR 193 across

from the Youngstown Warren Regional Airport. The purpose of this event is to teach basic gun & archery

safety, demystify firearms by providing hands-on experience, and provide an enjoyable learning experience to all youth ages 9-18 years old.

Participants will have the opportunity to safely shoot .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shogun, muzzleloading rifle and

archery equipment with adult supervision. We will have the Vienna Township Fire Emergency Squad exhibit at the event as well. Youth and parents will receive a gun

safety lesson taught by a Certified Instructor prior to shooting. A picnic lunch will be provided. Pre-

registration before SEPTEMBER 15 is required. Parents must sign a release form. No personal guns

are to be brought to the event, all guns and equipment will be provided.

CARTEENS

Trumbull County 4-H partners with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Trumbull County Courts to help

young people understand the importance of safe driving. We are on the search for teen volunteers to help lead our program! As teen leaders, you will help

assist with hands-on activities with our program participants. Our program is offered once per month

for three hours. This is an excellent community service opportunity and to network with teens. For more

information, please contact Ashlee at the Trumbull OSUE Office at [email protected] or 330-638-6783.

Junior Fair

Livestock Sale

A huge thank you goes out to our Junior Fair Livestock Sale Committee for their hard work and dedication to the sale and for making sure things run smoothly. They do not receive us much credit as they truly deserve. Thank you on behalf of the Trumbull 4-H Program! The sale would not be a success without your help behind the scenes. 4-H Youth: Please make sure to extend your hand to say thank you to the multitude of 4-H supporters who were present at the sale and who made this year possible for you. Please take a minute if you haven’t already done so to write a heartfelt note of thanks to advisors, donors, buyers and other volunteers! This means more to our sponsors and volunteers than you know and we want to maintain their loyalty and support for years to come! Trumbull County Fair Board News Just a reminder… many of our 4-H volunteers purchase Agricultural Society Memberships at fair time. The purchase of a membership affords you the opportunity to vote in the Agricultural Society Election of Senior Fair Board Members. This year’s election will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 1:00-5:00 PM at the Trumbull County Sr. Fair Board Office Meeting Room. As in any election, please make sure to follow proper procedures in marking your ballot. We urge you to exercise your right to vote!

The Trumbull County Jr. Fair Board is continuing to sell their t-shirts. Many of you may have purchased one at the Trumbull County Fair this year. They still have the following sizes: Adult Small, Medium & Large and Youth Large & Extra Large. More sizes may be available in fewer quantities. If you are interested, please contact Jan Solomon, Ashlee Dietz or Leeoria Wills (Secretary of Jr. Fair Board, [email protected]). The cost is $10.00 per shirt. With the holidays approaching, this would be an awesome gift!

4-H Advisory Committee

On August 8th and 10th, we hosted over 30 youth at the Trumbull County Agriculture and Family Education Center for our annual STEM Days. From 9:00 am- 1:00 pm, youth participants learned all about nature. Our facility was perfect for the event, as there are two gardens, a pond and a wooded trail. Luckily, the weather was even in our favor! Appropriately themed, “A Knack for Nature”, youth were able to classify leaves, go on a nature hike to collect items in nature jars for further evaluation, complete a leaf rubbing craft, learn about difference between domestic/wild animals and their tracts, study earthworms and create a bird’s nest that would be able to securely hold eggs. Thank you to our teen and adult volunteers for helping make the event a success! It’s an event we look forward to each summer!
