Greeting Nobles!
As February draws to an end, I find myself look-ing back and wondering where all of the time has gone!! First of all I want to thank everyone that attended Installation. Your generous con-tributions resulted in Tebala presenting the Chi-cago Hospital with a total of 23 toy trucks and $650.00! Words cannot express how proud I was when Bob Cotner, the Director of Develop-
ment for the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, called me at home to thank the Nobles of Tebala for their gift. Additionally, I want to thank Tom Brawner P.P., Robert Boyd & “Bear” Barker for rep-resenting Tebala and handling the presentation at the hospital.
The Super Bowl Party at Tebala was great fun! All of the nobles, their family & friends enjoyed fabulous food and a great game!
I want to thank everyone that attended the Valentine’s Day Din-ner. As usual Hoffman House did a great job! A special thank you goes out to Carlos Duran who traveled thru terrible weather to get to Tebala to entertain. He kept the dance floor moving by playing what seemed to be everybody’s favorite tunes.
Mark Torrance & Matt Thomann did a great job organizing and staffing our recent Fight Night. Thanks to their efforts, there were plenty of volunteers on hand and every aspect went smoothly. Thanks to all of the Nobles and their ladies for volun-teering; this event would not be possible without them!! The vol-unteers staffing the beer tubs collected over $250.00 in tips and generously donated it all to the Children’s Christmas Party Fund!
Please mark your calendars for our St. Patrick’s Day Party on March 17
th, the Membership Stag Steak Fry on March 29
th, and
the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt on April 1st. Look for more infor-
mation on each of these events in this edition of the Tebala-Gram.
Every day each of us should be on the “look out” for men that we
feel have something to offer to our fraternity or for whom we feel
that our fraternity has something to offer!!
Yours in the Faith, Dave Babcock

Chaplain’s Call Salutation of the Dawn
Many of us have heard or read the
Salutation of the Dawn, a poem frag-ment attributed to the fifth century BCE
Vedic playwright, Mahakavi Kálidása: “Listen to the salutation of the dawn.
Look well to this day, for it is life. The very life of life! In its brief passage lie
all the realities and varieties of our ex-istence: the bliss of growth, the glory
of action, the splendor of beauty. For yesterday is but a dream and tomor-
row is only a vision. But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream
of happiness and every tomorrow a vi-sion of hope! Look well therefore to
this day.”
These old Sanskrit writings have no
doubt inspired countless numbers of troubled people over the centuries.
They don’t mention the fact however that for most of us there are many
days when it is awful hard to “look well to this day.”
There are for all of us many yester-
days that are not dreams of happiness and there will no doubt be tomorrows
that will not be visions of hope. These are the days when we must recall that
peculiar evening in our Masonic ca-
reers when we knelt between two great pillars, poor and penniless, nei-
ther naked nor clothed, neither bare-foot nor shod. We were asked one
very simple question—In times of diffi-culty in whom do you place your trust?
On bad days—and good days—let us remember the answer we gave and re-
joice in the knowledge that we don’t face any of our days alone.
It is at such times that we are all
blessed with the knowledge of know-ing that we can reach out to another
member of our fraternity trusting in
their integrity as well as our own while discussing the issues of the day
that are troubling us.
It is my prayer that as you read this article your life will be blessed with
great joy and happiness in this month of March. I look forward to seeing
you at the monthly business meeting at the Tebala Temple.
Your Chaplain

LOVES PARK SHRINE CLUB NEWS…(and random thoughts)
A big HELLO to everybody all the way from Pompano Beach, Florida. Noble Hy Bergsten mailed his 2012 dues along with the above greet-ing. He occasionally thinks about the Club and all the fun he is miss-ing. If he shows up for a meeting in the future he’ll have the Honor of travelling the farthest distance. Thanks for your support Hy. Parade invitations are starting to trickle in. The first one received was for the Pecatonica Memorial Day Parade. Last month I told you about the Club’s Secretary and his attempt to build a ship. Unfortunately I do not have an update on the status or progress to date. Stay tuned. I attended a Stated Meeting at Rockford Lodge 102 recently. Brother Jack Sherman received a Fifty Year Pin. Also in attendance were Noble Don Aiello and Noble Joe Fleming (both Past Masters). Noble Joe was one of the original Shakers & Movers of the Loves Park Shrine Club. He was involved in the design, development, manu-facture and completion of our pa-rade CAROUSEL. The Merry-Go-Round Carousel was put in service about 1960. This year will about the 52nd year and still going. Your officers await your input as to what type of activities you would like to participate in this year. If you haven’t mailed your 2012 dues ($10.15) yet, the address is at the end of the column. Something for Everyone TIME: Brain Teaser Time: What letter should logically re-place the _____in the following sequence? D H L P T _____ Keep reading for the answer.
Miscellaneous: 1. Author Ernest Hemingway re-vised the last page to A FAREWELL TO ARMS 39 times. 2. Do you recall why Clark Kent (alias Superman) was rejected for military service during WWII: He failed the eye test portion of the Army physical. Because of his X-ray vision, he inadvertently read an eye chart in another room. 3. One hundred and fifty knights could be seated at King Arthur’s Round Table. 4. The most widely eaten fish in the world is the herring. 5. Vitamin A is the only essential vitamin not found in the white po-tato. Ponderings: It’s interesting that most women’s magazines fill half the pages with recipes and the other half with ways to diet. Experience is one thing you can’t get on the installment plan. Americanism means the virtues of courage, honor, justice, truth, sin-cerity, and hardiness-the virtues that made America. The average life span of a major league baseball is seven pitches. If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there. Weather forecast for tonight: dark. Few things have a shorter life span than a clean garage. Some people walk in the rain, oth-ers just get wet. Who Said That? “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” Michael Jor-dan “The most important
trip you may take in life is meeting people half way.” Henry Boyle “Some succeed because they are destined to, but most succeed be-cause they are determined to.” Unknown “Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there.” John Wooden “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” Maya Angelou “I always view problems as oppor-tunities in work clothes.” Henry Kaiser ”There is always room at the top,” Daniel Webster “To escape criticism – do nothing, say nothing, be nothing.” Elbert Hubbard “Character is not made in a crisis – it is only exhibited.” Robert Freeman Brain Teaser Answer: The missing letter is X. The letter sequence represents the 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, 20th, and 24th letters of the alphabet. Q. What kind of phones do turtles use? A. Shell-ular! Laugh a little time: Leon: How come you’re only wearing one glove? Did you lose one? Bruce: No, I found one. Tom and Bruce go hunting in the woods and get lost. Tom remembers that the International SOS signal in this situation is to fire three shots in the air. Bruce fires three shots and they wait, but no one comes. Tom fires three shots, again they wait, but no one comes. The last meeting at the Shrine Hospital in Chi-
cago was on February 28, 2012.
We had a dog and pony show for the hospital on
February 23 and will be doing it again on March 15.
Players for the Illinois High School Shrine foot-
ball game have been chosen. There will be 44 play-
ers on each team and they will travel to the Chicago
unit on Wednesday, July 11 and there they will be
ushered thru the facilities. These players have been
chosen by the Illinois High School Association and
have worked with the Mohammad Shrine Center in
Peoria for the last 35 years. We will be looking for
sponsors for the football game program to be
printed. We are also looking for hospital patients
to be brought to the football game. We are always
looking for donations. Truly, the Shrine Hospitals
are the best kept secret. Please think about the hospi-
tals as you are preparing your wills.

THE CIRCUS IS COMING!
That’s right, the time is near for the 61st TEBALA SHRINE CIRCUS. When you read this, there will
only be about 90 days till the Circus begins. As you are all aware, the Circus is one the largest fund raisers
that Tebala has, and this is the way that we fund our operation. Your help is needed in making this Circus
(*fund raiser) a success, both in the purchase of the Circus ticket vouchers, and also in helping out at the cir-
cus. There are many jobs and very few that you cannot do regardless of age. We will find something that will
fit you, so come out and give us a hand. The circus is once again indoors, so you do not have to worry about
the rain, cold or heat.
This year everyone that pays for the vouchers as a CIRCUS GRAN-DADDY OR CIRCUS DADDY will
receive a pin that they can proudly wear, and also will be listed in the program as a supporter. After the cir-
cus, and sometime during the summer, there will be a party for all the Circus Gran-Daddy’s and Circus
Daddy’s in appreciation of all your help, thank you in advance for your help.
Many of you have circus shirts from the past years, put them on and get out, and when you are asked
about the Circus, tell people it is on June 1, 2, & 3, 2012, the 1st weekend in June at the Indoor Sports Center.
So, remember, don’t tell anyone about the Circus (TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THE CIRCUS).
Yours in the Faith,
Loy Rice, Circus Chairman
