We are officially in the fall season and with that is some nice cooler days. We all have our favorite season and one of my personal favorite is fall. One of the best things about the fall season is all the beautiful autumn colors on the trees. It also means that the Holidays are just around the corner, time to start thinking about decorating and baking. That reminds me, the Cookie Exchange event is still available, if there is a member(s) who is interested in chairing this event. Please contact Denise Karpa (702) 564-1071. She will assist you with the preplanning paperwork for the event. It's also time to start thinking about our next year's elections. At our October General Membership Meeting, we will be looking for volunteers to participate on the nominating committee. Please consider participating on the committee, we will need at least three volunteers. The volunteers will be calling the members to see if there is any member interested in volunteering for the 2018 elected Executive Board positions. The following are the elected E-Board positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and a Director. This is a great opportunity for you to volunteer and continue to make our club successful. As most of you know, LVCA will be celebrating its 45th Anniversary in 2018. We are forming an anniversary committee to start making plans for our celebration year. It's not too late, if you are interested in volunteering to be on the Anniversary Committee, please contact me, Kathy Clapp (702) 254-3265. We will be having our first meeting in October. We'll be sending out an email to all the volunteers with the date. Thank you all for volunteering to be part of this committee. We have another busy month coming up. We have several events to look forward to for the month of October. We start the month

October brings us cooler temperatures,
fall colors and also leaves that fall…
On August 30th our good friend
member Stephen Tucker passed away. Steve
was a fine gentleman whose warm smile
came straight from his heart. He was a keen
observer of people and when he offered an
observation, one would do well to listen.
Steve shared his dry wit with us on many
occasions and we will long remember how his
eyes sparkled with humor when telling us a
story. He was perfectly complemented by
Jan. Steve glowed in her presence and he
would lovingly glance her way often when
they were in our company. We will miss him
dearly.
While arrangements are pending as this
article is being written, Jan has requested that
donations to the American Cancer Society be
made in Steve’s memory. Please keep Jan and
the Tucker family in your thoughts and
prayers.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette C8 “Zora” By Automobile Newsletter
September 7, 2017
After seven generations of front-engine, rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet Corvettes, the
C8 is switching to a mid-engine configuration. The C8 Zora is likely to be unveiled January
2018 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, with production to begin in
time for a fall ’18 release, possibly earlier. The Corvette’s Bowling Green, Kentucky,
assembly plant suspended public tours this year, suggesting that Chevy has begun to build
C8 prototypes there.
Arguments against a mid-engine C8 are the configuration’s higher cost and its
departure from the Great American Sports Car’s image. Arguments for it are stronger. First,
Corvette buyers are getting old, and they would find little reason to trade in for an
evolutionary, front-engine C8 Corvette. Foremost, by switching to mid-engine, Chevrolet is
doing what Porsche refuses to do with the Corvette’s direct competitor, the 911. By going
mid-engine with the C8, Chevy may finally have a Corvette that can out-handle the 911.
Spy shots suggest the C8 will not be mistaken for any other mid-engine sports car,
with a hood nearly as long as the C7’s, though with a short dash-to-axle ratio and a long
rear deck.
The C8 Corvette is expected to again use the latest performance variants of
Chevrolet’s venerable small-block V-8 under its relocated engine cover.

Cars & Coffee September 9, 2017
By Skip Kelley Photos by Skip Kelley
Saturday September 9th was a bit dreary and overcast, so only the heartiest of the LVCA showed up to brave the threat of rain at Cars & Coffee at Speed Vegas!
Power and beauty wasn’t limited to our fiberglass stunners. Factory horsepower of the late model kind was in abundance! And don’t let this ‘57’s “rust” fool you! That thing was BUILT for speed!
Bob Florian won the supercar ride along! Unfortunately the start of his ride was when it decided to start sprinkling and they came back in. Safety first! Speed Vegas will make it up to him at our next C&C.
One of the highlights of every Cars & Coffee is to be able to take our Vettes out on Speed Vegas’ track and get a taste of what these machines were designed to do… even if it IS just a parade lap speed.
There’s always lots of folks willing to offer good advice and enlightening stories to inspire your future adventures with your Vette as it is, or provide you with tips and caveats as you modify it YOUR way.
The best thing about Cars & Coffee is it’s a great opportunity to just get together with old and new friends, get to know each other better, and enjoy their company.
Our next official LVCA Cars & Coffee event will be 7am Saturday October 7th… the weekend prior to our General Membership Meeting. Come out & join us!

Meet and Greet BBQ September 10, 2017
By Kathy Clapp Photos by Jim Cavallo, Ken Ackeret
On Sunday, September 10th, 20 LVCA
members and 11 Corvettes met with the
Colorado Corvette Club; our new Corvette
friends had approximately 30 members with
about 15 Corvettes. We were invited by the
Colorado River Corvette Club to participate
in a Meet & Greet at the Fox Smokehouse
BBQ in Boulder City. We enjoyed family
style barbecue that included ribs, pulled pork
and brisket. The food was more than
delicious. We took the opportunity to thank
the CRCC President Gale Allen and Vice
President Greg Attl with several club hat pins
and club writing pens. After lunch the owner
Dan Fox gave us a tour of his kitchen and the
equipment he uses to make his wonderful
food. He showed us the 1st item he ever
bought before he even had his restaurant and
that was his large smoker. This was a very
enjoyable day meeting new Corvette friends
and spending time socializing with all of
them. Thank you to all the members that
were able to attend.

Prescott Car Show September 21-24, 2017
By Scott Mergele Photos by Ken Ackeret & Kathy Clapp
We met at the Fiesta Henderson for the run to Prescott on Friday morning. Two cars went over on Thursday so we had 6 cars for the caravan. Our first stop was in Kingman for brunch at the Calico Restaurant. The food was great and we certainly made their parking lot look better. Then it was on to Prescott with a nature call in Ash Fork. There were 5 areas of construction on I-40. We think they were installing new potholes. Friday evening we attended the meet and greet event put on by the Presott Vette Sette. We met some new friends and caught up with some old friends. There was food for all and a cash bar. The weather was pleasant. In the 70’s and clear. Some hung around on Whiskey Row, after the meet and greet , at various establishments to sample the local entertainment. Saturday morning was an early get up for some. We left the hotel at 6:30 so we could load into the car show together. After I missed 1 turn on my directions and got a little tour of the area, we got there in time to be on Montezuma St., Whiskey Row, for the car show. After parking we went off to find breakfast. At least those of us up that early. It was too early for some of the ladies who wandered down at their leisure. The car show had 250 cars as advertised and was judged during the morning. We had 2 cars win judge’s awards. Ken and Kathy for their yellow C5 and Ken and Jean for their beautifully striped C7 Z06. Denny and Nancy Ledwon along with Connie Gentry won some very nice raffle prizes. After the show we retreated to our hotels to freshen up and then went back downtown for dinner at the Palace Saloon, which has a very interesting history. Sunday we went our separate ways to
come home. All in all it was a very fun trip. We hope to get more cars for next year. As I said, a couple cars went over on Thursday and there is a lot of neat stuff to see and do in and around Prescott. Thanks to all who attended.

Bracket Drags September 23, 2017
By Ken Rees Photos by Ken Rees
2017 LVCA Championship Drag Racing Series - Final Round The last drag race of the season for the LVCA Championship Drag Racing Series was held at The Strip on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017. Seven great looking Corvettes, with their owners, competed in the final battle of drag racing series. The weather was absolutely perfect making for an excellent day for drag racing. After two practice time trial runs down the track, the serious racing started. All of the competitors did a great job with some really close races. The final round—two seasoned veterans, Lanny Lowman and Mike Kerro. Lanny had about a one second head start. In a very exciting race, Mike drove around Lanny for the win. After five drag racing events of intense competition throughout the Spring and Summer, and Fall the championship points (best 4 of 5 events) ended in a tie—Lanny and Mike. The tie was broken in accordance with the 2017 LVCA Drag Racing rules. The LVCA Drag Racing Champion will be announced at the 2018 LVCA Awards Banquet. I want to thank all of the LVCA members that attended the drag racing series this year as racers, spectators, and cheerleaders. If you get a chance please thank our supporting sponsors. Without their continued support the Drag Racing Series would not occur. 2018 will start LVCA’s 14th year of championship drag racing. Hope to see even more racers next year. Congratulations go out to the following event
