Queens’ 40th anniversary kicks off in spectacular style
with the opening of ‘Stormtroopers in Stilettos: Queen,
The Early Years’, a major retrospective exhibition cele -
brating the formation and first five albums of one of the most ex -
citing, glamorous and influential bands in global musical history.
‘Stormtroopers in Stilettos’ is the first ever major Queen exhibi-
tion and takes place in a huge warehouse space in the heart of
London’s East End at Old Truman Bre -
wery on Brick Lane, opening on Feb-
ruary 25th, closing on March 12th.
The exhibition takes a comprehen-
sive look at the early part of Queen’s
career, from before the band’s for-
mation in 1971 when various band
members were dreaming of success
while studying astrophysics or run-
ning stalls next to Biba in Kensington
Market, right up to their spectacular
free gig for over 250,000 fans in Hyde
Park in 1976.
‘Stormtroopers in Stilettos’ promises to be one of the key events
in London’s cultural calendar for 2011 and offer a rare insight
into what it means to be in a successful rock band, taking visitors
to the heart of Queen by combining unique interactive audio
and visual environments with historic and never-before-
seen memorabilia; themed rooms and music all created
from the bands personal archive will come together to
create an exciting, fun, entertaining and engaging
insight into the foundation and rise of the global
super group Queen became.
The themed rooms in the exhibition include one for each of
the bands first five albums – “Queen”, “Queen II”, “Sheer Heart
Attack”, “A Night At The Opera” and “A Day At The Races”.
There will be a special studio area dedicated to the bands
early John Peel sessions; a space looking at the bands fash-
ion including original costumes by Zandra Rhodes; a
replica of a 1970’s cinema that will show a range of filmed
pieces on the band; an art and design room looking at
the bands incredible artwork on releases from around
the world as well as several other areas looking at the
bands studio work, live work, and pre-Queen ele-
ments. The exhi bition ends with the bands tri-
umphant and iconic Hyde Park show. ‘Stormtroopers in Stilettos’
kicks of a year long celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Queens
formation in 1971, subsequent to the exhibition there will be a
major BBC TV Documentary featu ring a rare interview with
Roger Taylor and Brian May and many other surprises and re-
leases to come through the rest of the year. 2011 will see filming
begin of a major Hollywood movie about Queen, starring Sacha
Baron Cohen as Freddie Mercury.
Acclaimed script writer Peter Mor-
gan (“The Queen”, ”Frost/Nixon” ) is
working on the project, which is being
produced by GK Films, Robert de
Niro’s Tribeca Productions and
Queen Films.

Lane, London, E1, is free of charge

of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon con-
tinues to resonate around the globe, inspiring a host of diverse

mains an icon beyond measure.

Ihave to say that as I write this, Surrey, and much of the UK, is
covered in a blanket of snow - beautiful of course, but we can’t
deal with such things here, the UK grinds to a halt in snow!
But I hope that you are warm and safe wherever you are - and
I’m not at all jealous of any of you sitting outside in the sunshine
in the the southern hemisphere... that’s a lie, I am VERY jealous!
I have to say thank you to the majority of you for you huge support
of the fan club in these difficult times. Things are no better as I
write, in fact it’s looking grim, as many of the usual renewals
from the last issue have just not come through. Not sure if that’s
confusion, or the fact that you just don’t want to stick with us.
But if you did get a renewal form with your last issue, PLEASE
send it back now, and don’t wait til June next year! If you are
due to renew now (autumn/winter issue) then your forms will
come by post after christmas.
There have been some great ideas from you guys on ways to save
the FC - many of them though are simply short term, such as fund
raising, concerts etc.. which is great, as anything is better than
nothing! But what we need is long term ways of sustaining the
club - and the only way is to get MORE people to join and keep
the ones we have! Next year is the band’s 40th anniversary, so
hopefully we will keep hold of you a bit longer, there are loads
of good plans for 2011, and I am also hoping we will get loads
of new members joining just in case the band decide to do any
live work to celebrate their anniversary!
Your ideas and thoughts are always welcome, so do
get in touch!
The convention always seems to sustain itself - and bookings are
coming in fast for that, so do book as soon as possible to avoid
disappointment, we did have to turn people away last year! We
have fabulous bands booked and some great guests lined up...
you all should have a booking form, if not you can download it
from the website (www.queenworld.com). Sadly Twixmas hasn’t
fared so well, we had so few bookings that we had to cancel the
live band, and we wont be attempting this party again, which is
so sad, we all had a great time last year, and we will have an
equally great time this year! But it just wont happen again as at-
tendance is so poor!
That’s it from me for now, I hope you all have a wonderful, safe
and peaceful Christmas, and may Santa bring you and yours all
you wish for! Have a great New Year, and here’s looking forward
to a brilliant Queen filled 2011!!
Love and luck

Island Records prepares
40th anniversary remasters of
the quartet’s extraordinary
catalogue
LONDON, November 8, 2010 – Queen and Universal Music
Group have signed an exclusive, long-term agreement on the eve
of the 40th anniversary of the groundbreaking group’s forma-
tion, in 1971.
With worldwide album sales of more than 170 million, No. 1 albums,
singles and DVDs the world over, inductions into the Rock & Roll
Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, a star on the Holly-
wood Walk of Fame, over 700 concerts performed in every corner
of the world including their historic appearance at Live Aid, and
a Guinness Book of World Records award for the most success-
ful UK album chart act in history, Queen represent one of the
most remarkable, compelling stories in popular culture.
Their music milestones include “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Crazy
Little Thing Called Love,” “We Are The Champions,” “We Will Rock
You,” “Radio Ga Ga,” and “Another One Bites The Dust.”
The new agreement with Universal Music covers the world out-
side North America, and the music of Queen will appear through
Island Records from January 1, 2011. Thus, the band joins some
of the greatest names in popular music under the palm tree of
the legendary label’s iconic logo.
Brian May of Queen said, “We are very excited,
after all this time, to be embarking on a new
phase of our career – with a new record com-
pany – with new ideas, and new dreams.”
Universal Music Group (UMG) co-CEO Lucian
Grainge said: “Queen rewrote the rock & roll
rule book 40 years ago, and you can count at
least three generations of artists who are
under their influence. So now we’re under
their influence at Universal Music, and looking forward to
writing chapters together for the new rule book.”
UMG International COO Max Hole commented, “A band of
Queen’s stature, and a catalogue with such appeal, present
an immense opportunity for a new creative approach. We
aim to apply fresh thinking and innovation to the marketing
and promotion of this great body of work. Ted Cockle, Darcus
Beese and their team at Island Records are the perfect match,
and everyone can’t wait to get started.”
During the course of the anniversary year, Island will remaster
and repackage, with additional content, each of Queen’s 15 studio
albums. The first five will be made available in March: “Queen,”
“Queen II,” “Sheer Heart Attack,” “A Night At The Opera” and
“A Day At The Races.”
After four decades, the collective work of Freddie Mercury, Brian
May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon continues to resonate
around the globe, inspiring a host of diverse artists from Lady
Gaga (who took her name from Queen’s “Radio Ga Ga”), Axl Rose
and Katy Perry through to Dave Grohl. Two decades after the
death of their phenomenal and flamboyant singer, Freddie Mer-
cury remains an icon beyond measure.
The 40th anniversary celebrations begin with a major Queen ex-
hibition in London, “Stormtroopers in Stilettos,” opening in late
February. This will be followed by a BBC-TV documentary and
the production of a major Hollywood film about the band, star-
ring Sacha Baron Cohen as Freddie Mercury. Acclaimed script
writer Peter Morgan (“The Queen,” “Frost/Nixon”) is working
on the project, which is being produced by GK Films, Robert de
Niro’s Tribeca Productions and Queen Films.

Iwas born in late 70’s in Czechoslovakia and thus never had
a chance to see Queen live. I became a fan too late anyway
- I remember watching the FM Tribute concert in April 1992
and since Queen got a lot of radio play here back then (mostly
WWRY, WATC, BoRhap), I quickly became a fan of the best band
that has ever been. During my university studies I started col-
lecting bootlegs and soon had a large collection of tapes and
CD’s (that was back in 1997 - long
before the MP3/FLAC era). Webdesign
was my hobby so I decided to create
a brand new Queen site dedicated to
Queen/solo concert recordings. It be-
came very popular but after three
years I had to shut it down due to
complaints from EMI UK.
I didn’t want to give up so I decided to start from scratch and
created Queen Concerts in June 2002. Such a website was
needed because the only source for information on concerts,
setlists or venues was Greg Brooks’ book ‘Queen Live’ which
was very inaccurate. So I studied his book, a couple of other
books and mainly several internet sources and compiled a com-
plete list of all Queen concerts including solo gigs and guest ap-
pearances of Queen members at other artists’ concerts. I stored
all this info in a structured mySQL database (that allowed me to
add, modify or search for info very quickly) and started search-
ing for other relevant stuff - info on support bands, newspaper
reviews, scans of ticket stubs, flyers or tour programs, concert
photos etc. Of course I also started collecting tour items - nowa-
days I have over 500 Queen/solo ticket stubs, over 80
tour programs, lots of signed items, Roger’s drum-
sticks, flyers, contracts and other interesting tour
memorabilia.
Hundreds of fans from all around the world
have contributed to my site and I also spent
endless hours, days and months searching for
images on ebay or googling for info on Brian’s
and Roger’s occasional guest appearances. In-
accuracies in books can be corrected only in
reprints (if there are any) while mistakes on websites can be
corrected within a few seconds and I’m really thankful to all the
fans who help me make this site as accurate as possible. Thanks
to Queen fans I was able to come with new sections which are
covering areas I’m not an expert on. One of the examples is the
"Instruments on tour" section - all I know about drumkits is that
Roger sits behind one of them! :-)
Now when you’re reading this article,
Queen Concerts has had over 3 mil-
lion visitors and 13 million page
views. Information still is a highly
sought-after gem and I’m more than
happy to contribute to the Queen
world in this way. Info from my site
and scans of my memorabilia have
been used in many books (Queen Live, Killer Queen, Complete
Works, Is This The Real Life? and others), UK magazines or TV
documents and I’ve had very positive feedback from many peo-
ple who worked very closely with the band. And contrary to what
some people think, I’ve never had any profit from the website -
never got any backstage pass, free DVD’s or anything else.
Plans for the future? New design, new technologies, even less
mistakes... and perhaps one day the band will recognize the
power of the Internet and appreciate how important all the un-
official websites are for the Queen community.
