This year, two very successful ANT International Academyseminars have taken place. Led by the expertise and knowledge of some members of our Network of Experts we were able to pro-vide seminars such as: Dry Storage of Commercial Spent Fuel by Dr. Albert Machiels and Mr. Peter Rudling, as well as theseminar on Scientific Backgrounds for Mechanical Behaviour of ZrAlloys in Nuclear Reactors by Dr. Clément Lemaignan. During theseseminars, we noticed a great interest among the 19 participants from 7 different organisations.

These seminars were recorded and will soon be available for purchase through our Online Education Courses.

Dr. Gary Was is the Walter J. Weber, Jr. Professor of Sustainable Energy,Environmental and Earth Systems Engineering and holds appointments inNuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences, and Materials Science andEngineering at the University of Michigan. He has held positions as Direc-tor of the Michigan Memorial Phoenix Energy Institute, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Chair of the Nuclear Engineering andRadiological Sciences Department. Professor Was’s research is focused on materials for advanced nuclear energy systems and radiation materials science, including environmental effects on materials, radiation effects, ion

beam surface modification of materials and nuclear fuels. He is a Fellow of TMS, the Mate-rials Research Society, ASM International, NACE international and the American Nuclear Society and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Nuclear Materials.

Dr. Mhairi Gass joined Amec Foster Wheeler in 2010 and is currently the technical lead for core materials research, which focuses on understanding the behaviour of zirconium alloys in light water conditions. This involves a number of test programs, predominately concentration on delivering corro-sion data with a detailed characterisation campaign to develop mechanistic understanding. Prior to joining Amec Foster Wheeler, Mhairi’s work con-centrated on developing transmission electron microscopy techniques for application to a range of material systems with positions at both the Uni-versity of Cambridge, and subsequently as research director for the UK’s

Super STEM facility, which provided atomic resolution imaging and spectroscopy to both the academic and industrial communities.

Mr. Václav Mečíř works for ČEZ – Temelin NPP since May 1984 as Safety Department Engineer, Head of Reactor Physics & In-core Fuel ManagementDepartment, Temelin Fuel Project Manager. He currently manages the ČEZ fuel cycle support project and, along with representatives of TVEL and the WWER 1000 NPPs of Czech Republic, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Russia, the Project “Moving to zero defect”. He is also involved in review of specific aspects of Temelin NPP new fuel related projects and margin management.

Mr. Milton N. Rübenich joined Eletronuclear in 1975, after completion of his MSc in Nuclear Engineering. Worked in all phases of the implementation of a PWR in Brazil and abroad, in the fields of chemistry, process chemistry and surface protection. Experience in conceptual and detailed design, pro-curement, follow up of fabrication, erection, commission and operation of process chemical systems and supervision of gamma scanning and tube sheet lancing during refuelling outages, with analysis and interpretation of the results. Present main field of interest are dose rate reduction, conceptual design of the water steam circuit and demineralized plants.

INVITED SPEAKERS — BIOGRAPHIES

Dr. Jiaxin Chen joined Studsvik in 1997 and currently works as Senior Specialist in fuel crud and oxide characterisation in Studsvik Corrosion and Water Chemistry Laboratory. He was adjunct professor at Chalmers University of Technology during 2014-2016. His recent research interests include microstructural characterisation of fuel crud and solids in LWR coolant; corrosion kinetics of reactor material surfaces in LWR primary coolant; characterisation of radioactive deposit on LWR piping surfaces; stability of neutron absorber materials in reactor coolant. In the field of PWR fuel crud, he and his colleagues at Studsvik have made some signifi-

cant experimental findings that are of high value for the industry.

Dr. Anders Janssen joined Studsvik in 2000 and he currently works as Senior Specialist on Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) of LWR structural materials at the Corrosion and Water Chemistry Laboratory. His main field of inte-rest is irradiation assisted stress corrosion cracking (IASCC), and irradiation effects on mechanical properties and fracture toughness of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) internals. He is also involved in SCC testing of unirradiated BWR and PWR structural materials, and failure analyses of LWR compo-nents. Before joining Studsvik, Anders Jenssen worked for ASEA-ATOM and

ABB Atom for more than 10 years with SCC testing of irradiated andunirradiated BWR structural materials.
