Berea Youth Works (BYW) Expands Its Reach For the first time in its history Berea Youth Works recruited summer youth workers from four communities that make up the Berea City School System. Berea Youth Works made this decision after the school system combined Berea and Midpark High Schools. BYW stepped off with its 2014 summer program so that all students at the school would know that ours is an inclusive summer jobs program for our communities: Berea, Brook Park, Middleburg, and parts of Olmsted Falls. Last, but certainly not least, this expanded reach included an increase in the wages paid to students. Students’ pay was adjusted from $7.95 (Ohio Minimum Wage for 2014) to $8.00 per hour. A New Name – The Frank Spurlock Summer Science Camp The Summer Science Camp’s name was changed to honor and remember a long-time and close friend of youth in our community. For more than 30 years, Frank was a champion of education, particularly science education. The seven year old Science Camp is held one week each summer and consists of students in grades one through six. The number averages about 50 students. In May 2014, Frank passed away suddenly and is sorely missed. We are honored to continue his legacy of service to and academic excellence for our youth. Berea Youth Works (BYW) Expands Its Reach

For the first time in its history Berea Youth Works recruited summer youth workers from four communities that make up the Berea City School System.

A New Name – The Frank Spurlock Summer Science Camp

The Summer Science Camp’s name was changed to honor and remember a long-time and close friend of youth in our community.

Please consider hiring Berea Youth Works youth for that job around your house that you’ve been putting off, or if you’re a business owner hire a capable extra pair of hands to assist. BYW allows individuals at least 16 years of age to perform office and yard duties in their communities. The work is measured and the quality top notched. BYW pays $8.00/hour which is slightly higher than the Ohio minimum wage. Hiring our students gives them opportunities to earn money for graduation fees, prom expenses, and/or higher education expenses. Additionally, Berea Youth Workers learn the value of a strong work ethic, honesty, responsibility, skill development and saving their own money. If you have work, we have the capable and reliable workforce. Contact us today at 440-243-2988 or on the web at www.northendfoundation.org.
