INSPIRATION for riters W A Note from Your Publisher Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving. ~W.T. Purkiser With Thanksgiving approaching, I find myself thinking about how lucky I am to have four wonderful children, two living parents, an amazing husband, a great job, and all the comforts of home that anyone could want. It certainly is the time to be thankful, and it is also the time of year that our thoughts turn to giving to others. At Chicken Soup for the Soul, we are blessed to have a vehicle with which to support charities and non-profits all year. We use proceeds from our book sales to support various worthwhile programs and we also use our books as fundraising tools for all kinds of good causes selected by you, our contributors. Earlier this year, we published Chicken Soup for the Soul: Raising Kids on the Spectrum, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Kennedy Krieger Institute, which helps children and adolescents with disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system, including autism. Last week we published Chicken Soup for the Soul: Think Positive for Kids, with a portion of the proceeds going to coauthor Kevin Sorbo’s children’s education program, A World Fit for Kids! We are also using proceeds from the 20th Anniversary Edition of Chicken Soup for the Soul to benefit global literacy programs, through a couple of literacy programs for children, including the Humpty Dumpty Institute. The Humpty Dumpty Institute is a global organization that our CEO (my husband) cofounded many years ago. Humpty Dumpty runs programs all over the world promoting literacy, fighting poverty and hunger, enabling conservation programs for animals, and providing health care. Chicken Soup for the Soul provides support to Humpty Dumpty through all its books and other products. Don’t forget that you can use our books, at a discounted price, for your own non-profit fundraising as well. You have sold more than 4,200 of our books to raise money for your own good causes during the past year. A Note from Your Publisher

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true

measure of our thanksgiving.

~W.T. Purkiser

With Thanksgiving approaching, I find myself thinking about how lucky I am to have four wonderful children, two living parents, an amazing husband, a great job, and all the comforts of home that anyone could want.

Changing your world one story at a time®

Here You Are with the Books in which You Have Stories!

Five lucky winners were picked at random to receive their choice of six of our 2013 books. Congratulations to Pamela Jarmon-Wade, Christine Trollinger, Colette Sasina, Karen Hessen, and Ray Weaver. Their photos with their book displays are on this page, and we have also included additional photos so you can see some of

your other fellow contributors with their books!

Ray Weaver says, “I am proud to put my books right out on the family room table

where all my guests can see them.”

Karen R. Hessen says, “This is at our beach house - our ‘special place.’ Thanks for all you do on behalf of those of us who submit our stories.”

According to Colette Sasina, “The books are a sure fire

conversation starter.”

Look at Christine Trollinger! Wow, Christine, you are prolific!

Pamela Jarmon-Wade says, “I proudly carry the book with me

everywhere as I tell everyone about this amazing book!” That

is great word-of-mouth marketing! Thanks.

Cynthia Lynn Blatchford says, “The cabinet is in my living room so that I can remind myself what I am capable of doing in this life, that anything is possible and that my life in foster care has allowed me to turn a difficult, painful situation into an amazing realistic dream.”

Sallie Rodman does something lovely with her writing: “In every story I write I try to remember a

family member or friend.”

Look at prolific contributor Beverly F. Walker “...with the Chicken Soup books in which I am honored to have stories...”

We’re lucky that “Jobfree Jennifer,” who writes as JC

Sullivan, has time to write for us!

Diane C Nicholson and herrescue pup, Ikin, also have a story in Chicken Soup for the Soul: O Canada The Wonders of Winter.

I received an e-mail from someone at Shelton Interactive asking me

to fill out a form about myself. What is this for?

Shelton Interactive is one of the firms that handle publicity

for our books and for our contributors. They work on obtaining local newspaper stories about our contributors and their Chicken Soup for the Soul stories. They also field requests from TV and radio stations when they want to interview a contributor, and they help journalists who are looking for contributors with particular characteristics or

experiences. The form that Shelton Interactive sends as each book is published gives them the information they need to do a better job creating publicity for you, your story, and our book. There is no obligation for you to fill out the form, but if you would like to have some media coverage, Shelton is there to help you do that.
