It’s hard to believe that 2017 is already winding down!!! But as always, we have plenty going on in the closing months of our English calendar year! The month of November has several interesting offerings, such as a Shabbat Service on November 17th, geared toward the inclusion of our LGBTQ Com- munity. The service, created by the LGBTQ Task Force, will include readings, prayers and songs that celebrate diversity, individuality and the uniqueness of every human being! While it is focusing on the LGBTQ Community, it will emphasize the fact that ALL individuals are welcome at our Temple, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity. It has always been our policy, and we want to make it known far and wide!!! I hope you will attend. The Adult Ed Committee will be continuing its work of researching and teach- ing about other faiths and cultures. On November 18th, I will be hosting a workshop at my home on the Yazidi faith. The Yazidis or Yezidis are a Kurdish religious minority or an ethno-religious group indigenous to northern Mesopo- tamia. They are a very close knit group and like us, they have been the victims of genocide in Iraq. They are worth knowing and understanding! Beit Sefer will be hosting our Simcha Shabbat on the first Friday of every month, and Services will start early, at 7 PM on those occasions. Come out and meet some of the most important members of our Temple and our greatest resource for the future - our children!! Brotherhood and Sisterhood, as always, have several events planned for the coming months, and of course, Hanukkah celebrations begin in December (it’s early this year - first night is December 12th)! Rabbi’s Message

A MESSAGE FROM RABBI SILVERMAN

THE HOLIDAYS COME AND GO AND SO DO THE SEASONS As the season changes, we have passed into a kind of "in-between" time, when there are days that still feel

like a hint of summer, and nights that feel like winter is just around the corner. As the days grow shorter, let us reach out to one another more! May the good thoughts, feelings, and intentions that have been with us during the recent holidays abide with us throughout this New Year. Since Sukkot and Simchat Torah, we’ve noticed how much earlier the sun sets — and that we have more cloudy days. Even as the days grow shorter, let us remember that longer nights are good for rest, refreshment, and renewal. Many of us live such busy lives, that it is good to take time -- every day, if we can -- to remember some of our moments of joy and spe-cial meaning. With best wishes for an exceptional Autumn, Rabbi Lawrence

CARD PROGRAM! Haven’t gotten on the band wagon yet with the CBJ gift card program? Why not? It’s easy and convenient and it doesn’t cost you a dime to earn rebates that go directly to CBJ. And now, trying it out just got even better! For a limited time, all first-time gift card orders* will have their rebates MATCHED by the Rabbi’s Mitzvah Fund! What more could you ask for? Once you try it and realize how easy it is to earn money for CBJ, we think you’ll be hooked! Here’s how it works…just place a new customer order with Carl Finer ([email protected])or 508-224-1942) and the Rabbi’s Mitzvah fund will donate a matching gift to CBJ equal to the amount that you earned with your gift card purchase. For example, if you purchase $100 in Stop & Shop gift cards, you earn $xx in a rebate directly to CBJ, and the Rabbi’s Mitzvah Fund will donate an additional $xx to CBJ. How cool is that?! But wait…these cards aren’t just for groceries! There are hundreds of other retailer cards that you can pur-chase. Like CVS, Dunkin’ Donuts, Target, and Home Depot. And who doesn’t like to go out to eat? You can dine out and raise money for CBJ by ordering gift cards for Panera, Chili’s, TGI Friday’s, and Olive Garden. So don’t wait…place your first-time order today and help support CBJ. *Matching rebate applies to first-time gift card customers only.
