This is designed for individuals who are looking to take a career break and focus on building managerial knowledge and skills. Delivered over 12 months, the full-time MBA programme is an immersive experience that will enable you to focus on developing the capabilities to achieve your career objectives.

By providing a solid foundation in business and management, and the ability to specialise, both the full-time MBA and Executive MBA provide an environment in which business professionals can build on their current experience, expand their knowledge and skillsets, and focus on making the next step in their career.

This programme is aimed at individuals who wish to:

• move from technical/functional roles into management

• make an industry or functional change• explore entrepreneurial opportunities

Executive MBA Course code: 5824P

Aimed at mid-career managers who are looking to transform themselves into senior leaders, this part-time programme will enable individuals to study whilst working full-time. A 24-month programme, delivered across two academic years, you will attend classes Wednesday to Friday, in eight 3-full-day blocks each academic year.

This programme is aimed at individuals who wish to:

Business in action

At various key points of the programme, you will be involved in real-time action learning, in which you will have the opportunity to consolidate and apply your learning within constrained time frames. These events are linked to real operational and strategic issues and you will provide insight and expertise to the participating clients.

Management consultancy

The management consultancy project offers you a fantastic opportunity to apply your problem-solving and consulting skills on a live project with a real organisation. Working in small teams, you will be briefed by the client organisation and will deliver a solution to an issue the organisation is experiencing.

Previous management consultancy clients include:

• SAGE – an investigation into the growth strategy of the business and how lessons learned can inform future company development.

• Northumbria NHS Trust – an evaluation of training and development practice with recommendations on moving forward to ensure all employees are educated and trained to cope with current and future challenges.

• Probe Industries Ltd – the team were challenged to explore and recommend international market infiltration strategies for this growing business.

• Draeger Safety Products – the research and development of a new and innovative international in-house purchasing system.

Major project or dissertation

During the final term, you will embark on a significant individual project which will be delivered as a written report. The capstone element of the MBA programme, you will be able to choose from a range of project options to ensure that you use your learning to great effect.

Projects choices include:

Putting theory into practice

The Newcastle MBA focuses on the practical application of theory. You will benefit not only

from the cutting-edge research taking place at the Business School, but also from a range

of  live projects that will challenge you to apply your learning.

Personal and professional transformation

Complementing the academic elements of the programme, the personal and professional transformation module will draw the focus on you, by developing your interpersonal and professional skills. From the outset, you will work with the MBA programme director and MBA careers adviser to set your personal and professional development plan. If you are sponsored by your employer, they may also contribute to your review process. The module includes the following:

• Advanced management skills • Research skills for management • Leading people and organisations through change • Personal skills workshops including: negotiating,

communication, mentoring• Career planning and development

MBA students benefit from a dedicated careers adviser who will work with you on a one-to-one basis and help you address your career development needs.

Careers Service

You will also be supported by an award-winning Careers Service team who can help you to market yourself successfully, build your network and advise you on potential career opportunities. The Careers Service also has a team dedicated to providing advice and support for entrepreneurial ventures. Rise Up can help you to develop your ideas, provide space for you to develop them and provide advice on where to find additional sources of support such as legal, intellectual property and funding.

are supported throughout their programme and beyond. Our MBA programmes provide

an integrated personal development module and career management service, delivered

through practical workshops, guest lectures and one-to-one coaching.

Entry requirements

• A good undergraduate degree – Upper-second-class honours (2.1) or international equivalent

• Relevant postgraduate work experience – Full-time MBA: three years of relevant postgraduate work experience

• Executive MBA: five years of relevant postgraduate work experience, preferably of a managerial nature

• English language test score (for non-native English speakers) – IELTS: 6.5 overall or above, with a minimum of 6.0 in all sub skills – TOEFL (for European applicants only): 90 overall with at least 21 in listening, 22 in reading and 24 in speaking and writing sections – Successful completion of the University’s Pre-sessional English course

Each application will be considered on an individual basis. Candidates who have narrowly missed the academic or experiential requirement may be considered at the discretion of the programme director.
