Social organizations stronglycondemn US draft resolution

The Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon,Myanmar Music Asiayon, Myanmar TraditionalArtists and Artisans Asiayon and MyanmarWriters and Journalists Association issued dec-larations condemning the draft resolution sub-mitted by the United States and Britain to theUnited Nations Security Council in order tointerfere in Myanmar’s internal affairs.

The United States made an attempt toput the Myanmar issue on the agenda of theUNSC accusing the country of posing a threat toregional and international peace and security.

Placing its interest in the fore, the USmade such accusations with every intention ofinterfering in Myanmar’s internal affairs us-ing the UN as a tool. Thanks to the unity offriendly nations and regional and neighbour-ing nations the evil scheme of the US has metwith failure.

As the submission of the draft resolutionby the US and Britain was contrary to the wishesof the Myanmar people and ignored the truth, the MWJA together with the people stronglydenounced it.

Likewise, the Myanmar Motion PictureAsiayon, Myanmar Music Asiayon andMyanmar Traditional Artists and ArtisansAsiayon condemned the draft resolution co-spon-sored by the US and Britain. They also con-demned national traitors at home and abroadwho colluded with the external elements.

Therefore, the draft resolution of the USand Britain to interfere in Myanmar’s internalaffairs, ignoring the nation’s prevailing situa-tion was just an attempt to install a puppetgovernment under their influence.

Hugo Yepez, head ofthe institute, said thethawing “has to dogreatly with globalwarming, although thereis a small heat factorrelated to magmaconvection” inside thevolcano, which occurredin 2001.

The thawing “is aprocess that has beengoing on for some timeand which has increasedand accelerated”, he said.

The 5,897-metre highvolcano, which is locatedabout 70 kilometres

The most seriousdamage to the volcano ison the western side wherea large hole stretchesfrom the crater to a fewmetres above the loweredge of the ice.

YANGON, 22 Jan — A peace group led by U Lasan Aung Wah issued adeclaration on 16 January condemning the draft resolution submitted by the USand Britain to the UNSC with the aim of interfering in Myanmar’s internalaffairs.

At present, peace and stability is prevailing in the entire Union ofMyanmar. All the national races of the Union are harmoniously striving for theemergence of a modern and developed multiparty democracy nation in accordwith the seven-step Road Map.

Our group and the entire people protested against the draft resolutionsubmitted by the US and Britain to the UNSC at a time when the nation has beenconvening the National Convention to adop a new constitution. The People’sRepublic of China and the Russian Federation also objected the draft resolution.

Despite the objections, the two nations submitted the draft resolution, withfalse accusations including the continued detention of political prisoners, humanrights violations in the minority areas in the eastern part of Myanmar, uncontrollablespread of HIV, TB and malaria, and the failure to address the drug problem.

Our internal affairs concerned only with us. No outsider can safeguard OurThree Main National Causes — non-disintegration of the Union, non-disintegration of national solidarity and perpetuation cf sovereignty. We pledgeto safeguard Our Three Main National Causes hand in hand with the Tatmadawand the entire people at the risk of our lives.

We strongly condemn the continuous acts of the so-called democracyactivists from inside and outside the country, who in reality are national traitorsin demanding the UNSC and the powers to interfere in Myanmar’s internalaffairs, the acts of US and Britain that amount to encroacing on our independenceand sovereignty and harming peace, stability, national security and nationalsolidarity of Myanmar. We also condemn the UNSC member nations thatsupported the draft resolution.

We believe that the Myanmar affairs should be addressed by the national races, and we do not accept foreign interference. We also believe that the best way to solveinternal problems is through discussions at the National Convention. We make a firmpledge to continue to take part in implementing the seven-step Road Map.

3. On 26 September 2006, we opposed the decision of UN proposed by thethen US Ambassador to UN made on 15 September 2006, to put Myanmar issueon the agenda of UNSC. WASHINGTON, 21 Jan — Daydreaming seems to bethe default setting of the human mind and certain brainregions are devoted to it, US researchers reported onFriday.

When people are given a specific task to do, theyfocus on that task but then other brain regions get busyduring down time, the researchers report in Friday’sissue of the journal Science.

“There is this network of regions that always seemsto be active when you don’t give people something todo,” psychologist Malia Mason of Harvard MedicalSchool and Massachusetts General Hospital said in atelephone interview.

When Mason asked people what was happeningduring this down time, the answer was clear.

“It’s daydreaming,” she said. “But I find that thevast majority of time, people aren't having fancifulthoughts. People are thinking about what they have todo later today.”

Her team has chosen to call it stimulus-independentthought or mind wandering.

Neurologists and psychologists have debated whatgoes on when people are not specifically thinkingabout or doing something, and there had been generalagreement that the mind does not simply go blank.

Mason’s team set up an experiment using therelatively new technology of functional magneticresonance imaging or FMRI to see what is going on.
