PERSPECTIVES

Remain united forever toachieve national goal

At the heart of ensuring sovereignty of theState lies Union Spirit. It is, therefore, required ofevery citizen, whatever region he lives in theUnion, to have a strong sense of Union Spirit.

In the course of the Myanmar history, thepeople remained cohesive and harmonious in thefight against a variety of alien threats, and themotherland stands tall as a sovereign nation inthe international community.

All the national brethren are under anational duty to guard the nation, upholding OurThree Main National Causes namely non-disintegration of the Union, non-disintegration ofnational solidarity and perpetuation ofsovereignty.

The government is in pursuance of the 12objectives it has laid down to transform the mothercountry into a peaceful, modern and developedone. It has the Project for Progress of BorderAreas and National Races, the Project forDevelopment of Twenty-four Regions and theRural Development Project on the go with theaim of bridging the development gap between oneregion and another and equitable development ofall parts of the Union.

Now, the entire people are in a position toenjoy the fruits of the hard work the governmenthas been exerting to improve all the infrastructuressuch as economic, transport, education and healthacross the nation in order to expedite the threelong-term projects. That greatly impressiveachievement is mainly due to the fact that thegovernment, the people and the Tatmadaw workhard in harmony in carrying out nation-buildingtasks.

So, each and every citizen has to oppose allforms of subversive acts and join hands with thegovernment to achieve the national goal of buildinga modern, developed democratic nation withflourishing discipline.

* Oppose those relying on external elements, acting as stooges, holding negative views* Oppose those trying to jeopardize stability of the State and progress of the nation* Oppose foreign nations interfering in internal affairs of the State* Crush all internal and external destructive elements as the common enemy

Some foreign expertsconsidered thatMyanmar’s cultures didnot develop in a normalway and that went on fromstone age to iron age. Therefore, Nyaungkan(bronze age) regionexcavation in BudalinTownship in 1998 filledthe blank of bronze ageculture in Myanmarhistory.

Myaukle excavationresearch group discovered22 human skeletons and44 bronze wares exclusiveof 34 bronze spearsincluding one spear withpart of textile, 8 collectionsof copper wire, one bronzebracelet and one bronzebell in addition to four ironwares including three ironarms and an iron dagger,153 colourful jewel beads, small earth pots, earthcups, cylinder shape earthcups and bones of animals.

These findingsshowed that a humansociety in bronze and ironperiods existed for a longtime in this region. Earthwares make it evident thatthere was the humansociety in late bronze ageespecially in iron ageflourishing period becausethe evidences were verysimilar to those buried atthe regions such asYwahtin, Htonbo,Myohla, Ywakongyi,Myaryawai, Uhmin,

RIO DE JANEIRO, 10 Sept — The USadministration has agreed to transferthe F-18 Super Hornet fighter jets’technology to Brazil if the Braziliangovernment chooses to purchase USjets.

The US embassy in Brazil made theannouncement on Wednesday, two daysafter the Brazilian government said it isin negotiations with France for thepurchase of 36 fighter jets to renovatethe Brazilian fleet. The main argumentfor choosing the French planes was theFrench government agrees to transferthe jet’s technology.

According to the US embassy, the

US government thinks that Brazil hasnot yet finished its talks with France, and that the US proposal is competitive,so the Brazilian government mightchange its mind. Washington also agreesto let some of the jets be built in Brazilif its jets are chosen.

The US F-18 Super Hornet fighterjet is now competing with French Rafalejet and Sweden’s Gripen jet. Accordingto the Brazilian government, thenegotiations with France are veryadvanced, but it may still change itsmind. The jets may cost four billion USdollars.

Lashio, we first passedthrough Hsenwi, 32 milesfrom Lashio. The lake inthe entrance to Hsenwiwas found colonized bylotus flowers, thus addingto the beauty of the hillytown. Between Hsenwiand Kunlon is a mountain, and the section sometimessees landslides in the rainyseason. I noticed that themountain road had beenexpanded. Many units ofheavy machinery were atwork to ensure regularstream of traffic aspreparedness measuresagainst possiblelandslides.

Lashio is 85 milesfrom Kunlon and the roadbetween the two townsgoes uphill and downhillin many sections. Thehighland crop plantationsalong the road and thecreek between twomountains blended

together, like a paintingfull of natural beauty.

The team stoppedfor a while in Kunlon, andthen proceeded toChinshwehaw atMyanmar-China bordercheckpoint in LaukkaiDistrict. Team membersenjoyed the scene ofChinshwehaw from the caron the way to Laukkai.

Laukkai is 117miles and seven furlongsfrom Lashio, and about 25miles from Chinshwehaw.Along the road werethriving rubber and cornplantations.

After the pressconference, we observedseized arms andammunition, poppy seeds,

NIH expands swine flushot tests to pregnant

womenWASHINGTON, 10 Sept—It’s time to test the new

swine flu vaccine in pregnant women. Studies ofadults and children are going so well that the Na-tional Institutes of Health announced Wednesday itis opening the research to 120 women in their sec-ond or third trimester of pregnancy.

The flu always is dangerous to pregnant women, and 6 percent of US swine flu deaths so far havebeen among pregnant women. The new swine fluvaccine is just a recipe change from the regular fluvaccine long given to pregnant women and thusshouldn’t cause new safety concerns. But the stud-ies are key to learning what dose is required forprotection.—Internet

Sept—The large group ofsegmented wormsknown as annelids, which includes earth-worms, leeches and bris-tle worms, evolved mil-lions of years ago andcan be found in everycorner of the world. Al-though annelids are oneof the most abundant ani-mal groups on the planet, scientists have struggledto understand how thedifferent species of thisbiologically diversegroup relate to each otherin terms of their evolu-tionary history.
