Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
As we enter the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, we are reminded that when Jesus went throughout Galilee,
teaching in the synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, the people saw a great light.
Today's Gospel Reading Mt. 4:12-23 made us realize that what was prophesied by Isaiah was fulfilled through
Jesus. Many came to hear the message of Jesus, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near." They
followed Jesus wherever He went. When Jesus preached, they sat and listened carefully to every word that He said.
By the Word of God, they were lifted out of the shadow of death, the Light of God having dawned on them.
Today's Gospel Reading concluded by telling us that Jesus recruited Simon, who is called Peter, his brother
Andrew, James and John, the sons of Zebedee. When each and everyone of them were called, they immediately
left their fishing nets, and followed Jesus. They even left their families to become disciples of Christ.
From then on, Jesus travelled throughout Galilee, teaching in the synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the
kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people. Equally today, the Word of God, the
promoting of the Good News of the Kingdom of Heaven, heals all kinds of ills. The Word of God transforms
hearts, so victims may forgive their transgressors, those who have physically abused them, those who have
sexually abused them and those who have psychologically abused them.
When we received the Sacrament of Confirmation, we were sent forward to proclaim the Good News of the
Kingdom and to defend the Catholic faith. As we continue with our daily life, let us ask the Lord Jesus to give us
the strength and perseverance to answer His calling so we may faithfully serve the Lord according to His Divine
Will.

Tercer Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
Al entrar en el tercer domingo del tiempo ordinario, se nos recuerda que cuando Jesús anduvo toda Galilea,
enseñando en las sinagogas y proclamando la buena nueva del reino, la gente vio una gran luz.
La lectura del Evangelio de hoy Mt. 4:12-23 nos hizo darnos cuenta de que lo que estaba profetizado por Isaías se
cumplió a través de Jesús. Muchos vinieron a escuchar el mensaje de Jesús, "Arrepentíos, porque el reino de los
cielos esta cerca." Siguieron a Jesús dondequiera que iba. Cuando Jesús predicó, se sentaron y escucharon con
atención a cada palabra que había dicho. Por la Palabra de Dios, eran sacados de la sombra de muerte, al ser
iluminados por la luz de Dios.
La lectura del Evangelio de hoy concluye diciéndonos que Jesús reclutó a Simón, llamado Pedro, su hermano
Andrés, Santiago y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo. Cuando todos y cada uno de ellos fueron llamados, inmediatamente
dejaron las redes de pesca, y siguieron a Jesús. Incluso dejaron sus familias para ser discípulos de Cristo.
A partir de entonces, Jesús viajó por toda Galilea, enseñando en las sinagogas y proclamando la buena nueva del
reino y curando toda enfermedad y toda dolencia en el pueblo. Igualmente hoy, la Palabra de Dios, la promoción
de la Buena Nueva del Reino de los cielos, cura todo tipo de males. La Palabra de Dios transforma los corazones
para que las víctimas puedan perdonar a sus transgresores, los que los han maltratado físicamente, los que los han
abusado sexualmente y los que psicológicamente han abusado de ellos.
Cuando recibimos el Sacramento de la Confirmación, fuimos enviados a anunciar la Buena Nueva del Reino y a
defender la fe Católica. A medida que continuamos con nuestra vida diaria, pidamos al Señor Jesús que nos dé la
fuerza y la perseverancia para responder a su llamado para que podamos servir fielmente al Señor de acuerdo a su
divina voluntad.
