The nervous systemcontrols everything youdo, like moving, eating, talking, hearing, everything you can

think of that involvessomething with yourbody. Without it wewould die. It tells our

    body what to do.

    Spinal cord

    Brain

    Nerve cell

It is made up of your brain, nerves, and spinal cord.

The brain controlseverything you do. Thespinal cord, carriesmessages throughout your

body to and from the brain. The nerves, receive andsend messages to and fromthe brain.

    Parts of the Nervous System

There are a lot of parts in your nervoussystem. Located in the brain arecerebrum, cerebellum, pituitary gland, hypothalamus, and brainstem. Locatedthroughout your body are spinal cord, and nerves. The Cerebrum is the thinkingpart of your brain. It also controls your

voluntary muscles. Your memory lives inyour cerebrum. The cerebellum controlsbalance, movement, and coordination. Itis located below the cerebrum.

The brain stem connectsyour brain to the spinal

cord. It is in charge of allthe functions you need tosurvive(breathing, digesting food, circulating

blood, ext.) The pituitarygland releases hormonesthat make you grow andturn you into men or

    women.

Fun FactIf you stretched all of your nerves in your body they wouldreach around a running track 200 times.

The hypothalamus controls thetemperature in your body. It gets your

body temperature where it needs tobe. The spinal cord carries messagesto and from the brain. It also carriesmessages to and from the nerve cells.

Your nerves are all over your body. They send messages to the brain andreceive messages from the brain.

    The Nervous System process

Lets say you want to move your hand. Thebrain sends a message to nerves in yourhands. When the nerves receive the message, they make your hand move.

If you touch something cold the nerves senda message to the brain telling the brain tomake you shiver, so the brain makes youshiver.

NervesSends messages to the brain and receive messages from the brain.

BrainSend messages to the nerves telling them what to do and receivemessages from the nerves.

    Deadly diseases

Parkinsons disease, cerebral palsy, Guillain-Barre syndrome arediseases that can affect

    your nervous system.

Parkinsons disease is disorder ofcentral nervous system. With it youlose the ability to totally controlbody movements. Some nerve cellsare damaged and do not work well.

Cerebral palsy is disorder of thebrain. You lose the ability tocoordinate your body. Some typesare spastic, athetoid, and ataxic.CellsControl your body through different systems that give you what you need to survive.SpasticIt is a type of cerebral palsy. With it you cant relax your muscles or your muscles arestiff.

AthetoidType of cerebral palsy. It affects the ability to control muscles of the body.

    Ataxic

Type of cerebral palsy. With it you have problems with coordination and balance.

    A healthy nervous system

Keeping the nervous system healthy isnot always easy. To prevent diseasesfrom happening you should: Eathealthy food, get a lot of exercise, wear a helmet when you ride a bike orplay other sports that require headprotection. Dont drink alcohol, takedrugs or smoke tobacco. Use yourbrain by doing challenging activities.

Fun FactMessages travel in nerves at 186 miles per hour (218 km per hour).

I hope that you know a little more about the nervous system.

While learning about this system, I learned that there aredifferent systems that work very hard each day to help yousurvive and live a happy life. This makes me realize that thereare much more organs than just bones and muscles in your

body. This experience taught me all about my body and allthe process it does each day of my life. Now I know that mybrain controls all my systems and that to protect it I shouldwear a helmet and do other things to protect the nervoussystem. This research taught me about the importance of my

    nervous system.
