  • THE ROLE THAT THE NERVOUS SYSTEM PLAYS IN THE HUMAN BODY The nervous system plays a big role in the human body. It controls the different parts of the body and communicates with its parts. We need this system because without it we wouldn't be able to move or think because our nervous system is what controls our body. The nervous system allows us to think, breath, and to feel things, because of the nerves that run to our mucles, organs, heart, lungs, brain, blood vessles, and even our teeth an d skin. Our nervous system makes all of these things work!

  • THE MAJOR ORGANS THAT MAKE UP THE NERVOUS SYSTEM The major organs in the nervous system are the brain (soft wrinkled), spinal cord (long thin mass) and nerves (bundles of axons) these organs work together to create the control of the body. The brain and the spinal cord control the central nervous system which is where information and desisions are made. Its like the control center of the body. The nerves and sence organs monitor the inside and outside of the body. Wich also carrys information to the brain and spinal cord.

  • HOW TO THE ORGANS WORK TOGETHER? Suppose you were playing baseball and youre the pitcher, you just throw the ball. In that example your nervous system was involved. Your eyes saw where you want to throw the ball, and your brain connects to your mucles from the motor neurons which come from the spinal cord. They tell your mucles to make your leg step forward and your arm to throw the ball. You sensed and then acted.

  • QUSTION 4 body systems The Nervous System is connected to the Integumentary System because skin is one of the few things the Integumentary System creates, and when skin feels pain, thats the Nervous System acting up. (it has nerve fiber inside, seen below) Freethought Forum

  • QUESTION 4 The Nervous System is connected to the Urinary System because the bladder sends information to the brain possibly for when its full; it also controls when it urinates. (by sending signals, again) Below is a simple diagram of the Urinary System.

  • QUSETION 5 The nervous system starts with five types of cells: Glia Cells are cells that have a big part in the nervous system, including helping the nervous system repair, supports the brain helps development of the system, and provides functions for neurons. Astrocytes are found within the brain and are like a barrier that stops some substances from entering the brain. Microglia are small cells that are part of the central nervous system. They take out waste(s) and protect you from micro-organisms. Oligodendrocytes are also in the central nervous system and they are structures that wrap some neuronal axons (?) which make a coat thats called the myelin sheath. Schwan Cells pretty much do the same thing as Oligodendrocytes.

  • TISSUE Nervous tissue senses stimuli and sends signals to other areas and body parts of the organism. (Neurons make up the tissue) ORGAN The Brain IN ALL ITS CALLED THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM!

  • 2 PROFESSIONS OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM Two professions of the nervous system are: Physicians: physicians treat nervous system disorders and diseases that. These physicians have to spend a lot of time working with the patient before making a probable diagnosis of the specific condition. Neurological Surgery: Surgeons operate as a treatment team for nervous system disorders are called neurological surgeons or neurosurgeons.

  • DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that your brain is sending and receiving 6 trillion messages every minute in order to keep your body working right. Neurons send signals to other cells while electrochemical waves travel along thin fibers called axons. In a child developing inside the womb, neurons grow at the rate of 250,000 neurons per minute.

  • The cluster of nerves located at the base of the spinal cord are most sensitive. With the spinal cord being extra sensitive it increases the chance of injury and damage. A New born baby loses about half of their nerve cells before they are born

  • DISEASES OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM There are many diseases and disorders that involve the nervous system. But the nervous system can also experience functional difficulties. Examples of diseases that involve the nervous system such as: Parkinsons disease Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis Multiple sclerosis (ALS) Epilepsy Huntington's chorea Alzheimer's disease. One common disease that runs in the Nervous system is Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. There is no current cure for Alzheimer's, but treatments for symptoms are available. Scientist continue researching on what actually causes the disease but for now they understand that it has something to do with mix of genetic, environmental and life style factors.

  • PARKINSONS DISEASE Another disease that runs in the nervous system is called Parkinsons Disease. Parkinsons disease is caused by neurons begin to degenerate and die. Parkinsins disease is the most Common movement disorder. For an example Parkinsons disease causes loss of muscel control, which leads to trembling of the limbs which causes impaired balance. If the symptom gets worse, it may make it more difficuilt to talk, complete tasks, and even as bad as having trouble walking. There is no cure for Parkinsons disease right now but there are treatments out there to slow the disease down, stop, or reverse the process.

  • HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM Your nervous system is a very important part in your body so it is very important that you keep care of it. Ways you can keep care of your nervous system is to make sure you eat healthy, exercise manage your stress, and socialize. Mainly you just have to make sure you stay healthy.
