We bid farewell to our seniors, who’ve shared some great moments with us. We also bid farewell to the exchange students, who’ve shared with us this one trimester. Both will indubitably leave a mark in our lives. This time, the Cohort of 2012-‐2013 will be going at it alone for the next two trimesters, before a newer Cohort of 2013-‐2014 comes at the 4th trimester. But we are getting ahead of ourselves. It’s the end of Trimester 1, which was filled with a whole lot of firsts for the Cohort: from some first meetings to first club activities and from first parties to first fights. But like relationships, arguments that arise can only be bandaged together by constructive conversations that would only strengthen the said relationships. Bonds are formed, networks are created, and new connections are made.
The exams have ended, and with it so have the 1st trimester of the MBA Cohort of 2012-‐2013 and the last trimester of the MBA Cohort of 2011-‐2012. It’s a very sweet feeling for some, and a bittersweet feeling for others.

Truly, a quote from John Boswell, 9th Laird of Auchinleck, has the powerful words that capture the spirit of this feeling: “We cannot tell the precise moment when friendship is formed. As in filling a vessel drop by drop, there is at last a drop which makes it run over; so in a series of kindnesses there is at last one which makes the heart run over." Indeed, we can’t precisely say when acquaintances became friends, when group mates became companions, and when study buddies became people you could turn to to have fun or to ask for help. This trimester has borne much fruit in friendship, in the increase in knowledge in other races and culture and ways of thinking, and in creating the international community that will one day give light to the world. But as John Boswell had said, one may not know the exact time friendship was created, but one might trace the path that led to those friendships. Much of those paths were drawn by the activities the cohort collectively. October was a month full of firsts and lasts. It was to be the last month of the 1st Trimester. Despite the looming exams in the last week of October, the rest of the month was filled with activities.
September 23 was spent on the rooftop of Marina Bay Residences at Mr. Mike Caravaggio’s place, where we could survey the rest of Singapore, feel the roar of the F1 racecars, and join with friends to cheer for their favorite racers.

On the next weekend came Mid-‐Autumn Festival on September 29, concelebrated by the Cohorts’ Japanese, Koreans, and Vietnamese. Hiro embarked on a journey to educate the entire cohort about all sorts of fish, promoting the healthy diet of the Japanese. He brought along enough canned Japanese sardines to feed the Singapore Army for two days. Tadeo and Calvin (Kyung Woon) had something different planned. Where Hiro showed us all the types of fishes,

they introduced us to a lot of sweets, and different types of mooncake. They even showed us a game one played in Korea during the Mid-‐Autumn Festival, or the Korean National Holidays of Sulnal and Chusoek. Giang gave the final presentation for the day on the Vietnamese holiday of Tet Trung Thu. It was funny and full of new information, and in the end, he even gave a lantern (a practice in Vietnam during Mid-‐Autumn) to Eilish, Meena’s cute and beautiful baby! The night ended with a viewing of the award-‐winning Japanese movie “Okurubito” or “Departures”.

Meanwhile, on the same day at September 29, a group of MBA Colleagues was participating in the Crisis Simulation Competition representing the Nanyang MBA. This annual crisis simulation exercise at the Wee Kim Wee School brought together students from NBS, communication, policy, TV and print/social media journalists from Wee Kim Wee School as well as law students from NUS and will involve more than 100 students. Students are given crisis scenarios to discuss in teams roleplaying management roles, CEOs, SVPs, CFOs. The teams then hosted a “crisis press conference” where they faced the “journalists” live.
The winners were none other than the team of our very own Aakash Bajoria, VP Part-‐Time, Piter Lim, and Sunny Jain. Congratulations!

Business Case Bootcamp Competition
6
Then it continued with the wild and exhilarating Business Case Bootcamp Competition on October 6, organized by the Beer, Wine, and Liquor Appreciation Club, more specifically Jake Hason and Martin Schmidt, who had the fun task of creating the case, organizing the event, and picking up after the unholy mess created.
The event had a simple premise: the ability to skillfully read, comprehend, prepare and present a viable solution to a company was to be tested against the ability to hold liquor. With that simple premise, the volunteers were divided into groups, given a bottle of vodka to finish, and a case to read. No photographers allowed in this event. If you want more details, join Round 2!
On October 14, we celebrated post-‐Oktoberfest with the Germans of our batch at Paulaner Bräuhaus. Stefanie Rau and John Rae Cortes, our VP Culture arranged for this traditional Bavarian frühschoppen. There we were able to sample German cuisine and German Beer at a good price. There’s nothing like spending time with friends and good food and drink.

And finally October 25 came as the icing to our October cake. It was the last day of exams for most, as well as the start of a long deserved vacation. Before that however, our beautiful VP Socials Josephine Hong arranged for the End of T1 and Farewell to Seniors party at Helipad at Clark Quay.
End of T1 and Farewell to Seniors Party
All in all, it’s been one unique ride. Friendships made, forged through the fire of stress and academia, tempered by new colleagues and relationships. It’s only been a trimester, as some of our seniors would remind us, but for many of us it’s the last first trimester. Three more trimesters to go, three more trimesters to learn and experience. Let’s make every moment of our NANYANG MBA Experience count.
We cannot tell the precise moment when friendship is formed. As in filling a vessel drop by drop,
There is at last a drop which makes it run over; So in a series of kindnesses there is at last one which makes the heart run over.
