It was a very successful event with so many generous donations given to the school to pass on to the Cancer Council. I would like to thank Mrs Dragovic and Mrs Stead for organising the event and thank you to all those who donated to a very worthy cause. The Project Compassion Campaign raised $1022 which will be sent to Caritas to assist the needy. Thank you and well done to all those who helped with this appeal. The Prep, 1 and 2 swimming program concluded last Friday. From all accounts the program was very beneficial for our children and improvement in their confidence was evident. Swimming is an important part of our Physical Education Curriculum and it helps our students to develop water awareness and swimming survival skills. Thank you to Miss Christie for organising the Swimming Program and thank you to all the teachers and Learning Support Officers, who assisted in making the program a success. Congratulations to three of our teachers who graduated last week from Australian Catholic University; Bianca Gomez, Jennifer Khong (Bachelor of Education) and Hannah Power (Post- Graduate Certificate in Literacy). Well done on this great achievement! On Saturday at 3:00 pm, the Grade 6 children will be confirmed by Bishop Mark Edwards. This is a very important celebration for the children in their Catholic faith journey. They are reaffirming and confirming the promises made for them at their Baptism by their Godparents and families. Lastly, when parents arrive after school to pick up their children, they are not permitted into the classrooms and corridors of the school. It is disruptive for teachers who have not yet dismissed the children. Please wait for your child outside the classroom or if you are early, you are most welcome to wait in the Community Hub (near the canteen/hall). Have a great weekend. God Bless. LEARNING AND TEACHING

THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION Congratulations to the Grade 6 students and the children from our parish who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this Saturday. The Sacrament of Confirmation is one of the three sacraments of Initiation in our Catholic faith – the other two are Baptism and Eucharist. Bishop Mark Edwards who is the Auxiliary Bishop to the Western Region, will celebrate this sacrament in our parish.

ANNUAL REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY

The Annual Report to the Community is a requirement by the VRQA and Catholic Education

Melbourne. The purpose of the Annual Report to the Community is to inform parents and the

wider school community of the school's successes, activities and achievements throughout the

year, and to meet legislative and regulatory requirements under the Education and Training

Reform Act 2006 and the National Education Agreement 2008. Schools are required to submit a

school annual report to the CEM.

The 2017 Annual Report to the Community can be viewed on the school website and is also

available at the school office.

SCHOOL FEAST DAY

On Thursday, 31st May 2018 we will be celebrating our school’s feast day (The Feast of Corpus Christi – Feast of The Body and Blood of Jesus). We will be commencing the day with a whole school mass at 9am followed by a sausage sizzle and various activities throughout the day.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS Parent/Teacher interviews will be held on Wednesday 27th June 2018 and students will finish school at 12pm. Formal reports together with your child’s Assessment Portfolio will be sent home on Friday 22nd June 2018. We regard Parent/Teacher interviews, Assessment and Reporting as a vital part of our school program.

Parent/Teacher Interviews are a great opportunity to communicate with your child’s teacher about your child’s progress. However, they are also a great way to discuss any concerns or questions you may have regarding your child. It is important that you take the time to think about the things you would like to discuss with your child’s teacher, to ensure you make the most of your allocated time.

The Parent/Teacher Interviews will be approximately 15 minutes in length – just enough time for you and your child’s teacher to meet and communicate. Please be on time as we are unable to accommodate changes on the day.

In the coming weeks, your child will be taking home information about Parent/Teacher Interviews where you will be asked to select your preferred time frame. This will need to be returned to your child’s teacher without delay.

CHILDREN ARRIVING TO SCHOOL EARLY IN THE MORNING: There are a number of students arriving at school before 8am. Please note that teachers commence Yard Duty at 8:30am, however students are arriving much earlier. Students who arrive early to school are not supervised at this time. We have ‘Before School Care’ in the hall which commences at 7am and a ‘Breakfast Club’ in the Community Room begns at 8:15am. We all have a Duty of Care. Therefore teachers have been instructed to direct all unsupervised children (who arrive at school prior to 8:30am) to go to Before School Care or to the Breakfast Club for their safety.

. SCHOOL CLOSURE

Please note that we have a School Closure Day on Friday 8th June. The teachers will be writing reports on this day. Please note that there is also no school on Monday 11th June (Public Holiday).

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

JUNIOR SWIMMING PROGRAM

Last Friday marked the conclusion of the Junior Swimming Program for Grade Prep, One and Two. This was an intensive two-week swimming program at Sunshine Leisure Centre, where students had a 45 minute swimming lesson everyday to improve their swimming and water safety skills. It was truly amazing to see how much the students improved over the course of the two weeks and witness all the fun they had at the pool along the way.

A huge thankyou goes out to the Holy Eucharist School Leadership Team, the Junior School teachers and LSO’s, the Sunshine Leisure Centre swimming instructors and to our Junior School parents for supporting the children and making it all possible.

SCIENCE MAD ABOUT SCIENCE INCURSION

Over the last few weeks the students have attended a chemical science incursion which links into our inquiry unit for the term. The Prep- 2s have been exploring the world around them by sorting, classifying and testing the physical properties of natural and processed materials. Whilst discovering how they can change physically and well as chemically. The Yr 3-6 students have been exploring the three states of matter- solids, liquids and gases by using dry ice and conducting other exciting experiments to observe chemical changes. It has been fantastic to see the students so engaged during these sessions and learning about the world of science!!
