FROM THE PASTOR’S DESKJune 2013
“But as for me, I trust in Thee,O Lord, I say, “My times are inThy hand.” (Psalm 31:14-15)
This past April we witnessedthe devastation and destructionof terrorist bombings in Bostonand an enormous explosion inWest, Texas. In the formerincident, hundreds of peoplewere injured and three preciouslives were lost. In the latterevent, the fertilizer plantexplosion cost the lives of 15people, mostly firefighters, whowere the first responders.
What is to be our response? How do we reconcile the factthat God is good and loving, yetHe allows such tragedy to crossour paths? Many theologianshave attempted to answer suchquestions. But to those whohave suffered loss, the best wecan offer falls woefully short inmending broken hearts orrebuilding our lives.
Our devotional verse remindsme that I don’t have all theanswers. I am not required tooffer explanations or give atheodicy (defense) for theactions of God. Like thePsalmist, I must trust the Lordwithout reservation, believingthat in spite of the whirlwindaround me, my God has a planfor my life. And that plan oftenincludes hardship and pain.
See you Sunday!Pastor Steve
